Summary: one of the best games
Review: I don't relly spend much time on computer games. I've had some fun with starcraft in the past.. but that's about it. This one is a keeper though. I beame totally wrapped up in the game, how good the level design was (especially the beginning levels, i find the game quality fades a bit as the game goes on). there are always six different ways to solve a problem.. the game sleads to some very creative problem solving, leaving you thinking about how clever you just were when you threw the gas grenade into the room full of soldiers and snuck by them so that you'd have enough ammo to blow the robot up. you know... goofy computer game fun.

Summary: My girlfriend hated this game!
Review: I got many hours of gameplay, especially during the late nights when I should be spending the time with my girlfriend. This excellent game lets you play which ever style you prefer, whether it be the stealthy spy or the kill-them-all-and-let-God-sort-them-out Rambo.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I must say, when i first heard the hype about this game i was sceptical, myself not being a huge fan of the fps genre. Until i played this game that is. It is hands down the absolute greatest game i have ever played. The gameplay is brilliantly unique, half fps and half rpg. The amount of character and environmental interactivity is just superp. Everything, and i mean every single object in this game does something. You can turn on the taps, flush the toilets, you can even play pool and shoot hoops on the basketball court. And character modifications? Marvellous. Just like in System Shock 2, only better. A classic rpg skill points system, plus a wide array of augmentations to improve your character give this game a huge replay value, because once you finish it you almost immediately want to go back and try it again with different skills. And different skills do have a huge impact on the gameplay, as for every obstacle you encounter there are a number of ways to deal with it depending on your abilities. Locked door? Find the key, pick the lock or blow the **** out of it. Laser tripwires? Shut them off, blow them up or go through the air vent to get around them. It has a deep, dark and involving storyline that has the habit of making the player completely immersed in the game, forget eating, sleeping and bodily functions, once you get into this game you will not stop until youve finished it at least once. The graphics are of the highest quality, amongst the best graphics in a first person game today (provided you can meet the system requirements that is) Levels are terrifcally designed to present the player with numerous challenges. The AI is, on the most part, very advanced (varies depending on the difficulty) There is a clear gap between each difficulty setting. Once you get used to the game engine (which happens to be the unreal engine) easy mode is in most parts reasonably easy, whereas Realistic is in some places harder than anything a human being will likely experience in real life. Stealth is incorporated so that it can be a major aspect of the game. Emphasis on the CAN. You can be stealthy, or if that isnt your specialty you can turn your player into a walking tank. The voice acting is mostly well done, even though in some parts it lacks expression. That is about the only negative point i have found, after playing through the game on the first 3 difficulties (which took a long time) From a seasoned gamers point of view, the meaning of life should be to buy this game right now.

Summary: It does not get better
Review: I read about the concept of Deus Ex in a Newsweek article and lamented not having a PC. When I found it for Mac, I flipped out and had to buy it. When I played it, it was sooooooo much cooler than I had imagined it would be. The game took a long time to load, but waiting for it was worth it. Awesome graphics, cool action, great interaction, etc.......but the best part of all was the storyline. It just got cooler and cooler. I would recommend this game to anybody.

Summary: GAME OF THE YEAR (PC GAMER)
Review: I really recommend you to buy this game. I beat this game only on easy buy it was so much fun!!!. Don't listen to anybody who says that enemy AI is unreal (I saw couple of those rewievs) but when I looked at their screenshots I understand that they cheated (they had a gun at place where you cannot get it yet anywhere exept cheating) and probably they were playing on EASY. OK. Try REALISTIC mode and they tell me about AI - ha??? Dead already??? This game is better then any other game that came out by now - music is beatuiful, grafics is awesome (but you REALLY need a 3D accelerator), story - I don't think it's close to other games or movies. And now you can play it multiplayer ONLINE with other guys by downloading multiplayer patch from internet (free). If all this don' t tell you to buy a game - donwload a demo (full first mission) and I'm sure you will buy it after you played it!!!

Summary: A Good Mix of Genres
Review: I recommend Deus Ex because of the variety and interactivity of the gameplay. The X Files-type plot and huge levels should hold the gamer's interest longer than the average shooter. Deus Ex combines some of the best elements of adventures, role-playing games, and first-person shooters.

You are Agent Denton, a member of a global anti-terrorist agency. You are also part machine, with augmentations grafted onto you to provide special skills or strengths, such as a light to see in the dark and an interactive link to headquarters. Augmentations can be upgraded as the player progresses. Besides the usual exploring, in such typical places as the New York subway and sewer systems, there are animated cut-scenes where the player's decision affects how the plot advances. This creates multiple story lines and makes the game replayable. On each level there are sub-plots called secondary objectives, which a player can pursue or not. The additional points from completing both primary and secondary objectives can then be added to one's skills, such as lockpicking, electronics, swimming, heavy weapon use, and so on. Like augmentations, skills can be gradually upgraded. These skills are another factor that shape how the game progresses. The player can move by stealth or shoot everything in sight. Kill or merely incapacitate. It's up to you. But in each case there are consequences to one's decisions. Co-workers respond to rudeness. Enemy troops will come running when you shoot a gun without a silencer or turn on the alarm when they catch a glimpse of you down the hall.

There are a few caveats which prevent me from giving Deus Ex five stars. The hardware requirements are steep. I used an imac 350 with 192 MB RAM. It would not even run until I turned on virtual memory, which I eventually set to 250 MB for a smooth performance. Even then, it always knocked out the right channel audio. This was especially disappointing because at many times in Deus Ex the player must listen for footsteps. Having both sides of the headphones work would've made the game easier and much more enjoyable. Add to this that the saved games are usually 10 MB or more -- and this is the kind of game where you will be saving often -- so leave plenty of room on the hard drive. The game also takes long to load. Even after a full install, there are many places where the player must wait for the next scene to load -- both at the beginning and end of levels and between them. There were also some graphic anomalies and some places where my Kensington mouse froze or moved very slowly. A multi-button mouse is helpful for this game.

Despite these shortcomings, Deus Ex is highly recommended because it turns a first person shooter into something more than just running and killing. It held my interest, anyway, and I think it will hold yours.

Summary: Best Game Yet!
Review: I used to think Jedi Knight was the best game of all time but this one beats even that great one. Others have done a great job of describing the game but I wanted to address the few people who didn't give this game 5 stars.

It seems the few that didn't like it were MAC users and they complained because it didn't work properly. I think that is more your underpowered imacs fault than the games. I have a friend that is a MAC user and he had no problems at all and loved the game.

No one seemed to mention the multiple plot lines or endings either. That makes the game replayable to the max! I will recommend caution though, this game will test any relationship because of its addictiveness. By all means buy it though, you only live once!

Summary: I was too quick to judge this game is excellent
Review: I would like to withdrawl my last review as it was too hasty. Although this game severly taxes any new iMac it is an outstanding game.

The depth that non-player characters have and the abundance of choices to complete the missions is unlike any game I have ever played.

It combines the best of diffferent genres, role playing like D&D , first person like DOOM, and pure thinking like Zork.

I will buy every sequel to this game and a new computer to play it on if need be!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Similar to "Doom"
Review: I'd describe Deus Ex as "Doom-like"...with a lot of extras. You move through rooms, pick up and use tools, shoot, etc.... There is some plot of some world-wide conspiracy, etc... But overall, I didn't find this game particulary innovative or well-done. And on the Mac, I had some problems right-clicking....

If you like "Doom"-like games, then maybe give this game a go....otherwise, save your money for some other software.
