Rating: Summary: One parent's plea Review: I write this more as an innocent bystander than anything else. I am not particularly into hack-and-slash games, but the resident 10-year-old thinks it is the last word in entertainment, at least for this week. As far as I can see, it largely consists of run run run, jump jump, slash slash slash, run run, jump, slash slash, run run, shoot shoot, use your funky Force powers from time to time, run run run run, jump. Woo hoo. If that's your cup of tea, more power to you. However, for we poor saps who happen to be stuck in the same room with the urchin playing this game, the experience can be pretty miserable. To start off, the dialogue is just absolutely god-awful, melodramatic crap. I don't know if the game designers are trying to be faithful to the movie franchise, but please stop it. Nobody will ever confuse the diaglogue in the Star Wars movies with Casablanca. Please, try to improve on this in future efforts. Also, why do all of the male characters sound like they are doing bad Clint Eastwood imitations? It just drives me crazy to listen to this stuff. I keep waiting for Jaden or Kyle to say, "Do you feel lucky, punk?" I guess you are trying to emphasize the characters' manliness (god knows some of these pimple-faced gamers need to live vicariously through these characters), but it only adds to the overall cheesiness of the production. Finally, try and make it a little more challenging. The aforementioned 10-year-old, playing maybe an hour per day, was able to get through this game in maybe 2 weeks. This is the same 10-year-old who was hard-pressed this weekend to tell us if the sun rises in the east or the west. This is not encouraging, and for those of us who shelled out depressingly large sums of money for this game, we would like to see the youngsters a little more challenged.
Rating: Summary: This game is very impressive! Review: I love playing with this beacause you can make your own character and there are more and harder to beat enemies! Your character's name is Jaden Korr and the first mission is to save Rosh and make your way to the academy. I don't know why Lucasarts made Rosh let out a training droid in the second level. Your first Tier missions are Tatooine, Tatooine again, Bakura, Beenji and Corellia. I don't know the maps in the second Tier mission yet. My favorite mission in the Tier missions is the Corellia mission beacause your outside a cargo tram and you shouldn't fall! The mercs(mercenaries) and cultists almost look the same! I hope you all love this game!
Rating: Summary: Outcast expansion...but fun! Review: Jedi Academy is a great game. Eventhough it uses the same graphics engine as outcast the detail didn't disappoint me. It is almost exactly the same to outcast except you can customize your jedi, choose your beginning weapons, customize your lightsaber, and choose the order or your missions. Only two new weapons were added: the heavy blaster and concussion rifle (very cool by the way). No great or amazing improvements EXCEPT for multiplayer which is excellent. Once you beat the extremely short first player missions it's great to duel against real people instead of the really unintelligent AI. My favorite improvement though is definately going to be SIEGE mode in multiplayer. It's awesome to make your way through the opponenets' base with different types of fighters. EX: demolitions, heavy weps., jedi. To sum it all up, the game is similar to what an outcast expansion would be like but it still has enough changes to be its own game.
Rating: Summary: The PC game of the games! Review: This is one of the coolest games I have had! First you play as Kyle Katarn without a lightsaber and in the "Yavin_Trial" level you get a lightsaber! You fight stormtroopers, imperials, turrets, sentrys, probes, crabs, Weequays, Rodians, Grans, Reborns, Tavion, shadowtroopers, Galak and the hardest to beat, Desann! The maps where you go are Kejim_post, Kejim_base, Artus_mine, Artus_detention, Artus_topside, Valley, Yavin_temple, yavin_trial, Ns_streets, Ns_hideout, Ns_Starpad, Bespin_undercity, Bespin_streets, Bespin_platform, Cairn_bay, Cairn_assembly, Cairn_reactor, Cairn_dock1, Doom_detention, Doom_shields, Yavin_swamp, Yavin_canyon, Yavin_courtyard and Yavin_final. Desann is the most powerful enemy in the game that you will never get to grip him. Well Galak in his forcefield armor is a little hard to beat like Desann, you can't grip them.
Rating: Summary: I WANT IT! Review: I WANT THIS GAME SO BAD! I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT! I MUST GET THIS GAME! I MUST HAVE THE FORCE! MUST HAVE! HELP! MUST GET GAME! AAAHHHHHHHH!
Rating: Summary: Great game for any Star Wars fan. Review: Great story line. You can chose what kind of Jedi character you want to be, and if you want to chose the Jedi way or go to the Dark Side later in the game. Great effects. You can also play online. I highly suggest this game.
Rating: Summary: too easy, no depth, too short, buy Outcast instead! Review: I love lucasart games, but i'm afraid they crashed and burned on Jedi Academy. The levels are extremely short, and the game was way too easy. Let me give you an example. You've played Jedi Outcast, right? Take the first reborn you meet on the padawan difficulty setting, and that's how hard the Dark Jedi's are on the Jedi Master difficulty setting of Academy. Many times i've killed jedi's before they've even ignited their lightsabers. Pure luck if that happens on Outcast. As for the levels, if you have indeed played Outcast, imagine the level where you acquire your lightsaber. Often times that's the maximum size of the levels in academy. It took me approximately 30 hours to complete Outcast. It took about 7 to complete academy. The one thing I liked about academy, and yet was dissapointed in Outcast, was that you choose your destiny, be it dark side or light. But Lucasarts made the turning point far too close to the end of the game. And the turning point is optional, as opposed to the morality bar in Dark Forces II. I thought that this destroyed the potential dynamics of Academy. If I had it my way, you would either be seduced by the Dark side, or stay on the light side, according to your previous choices. This is only my personal oppinion however, some people might like it that way. While I don't hold it against Lucasarts, they made their fair share of mistakes in this game. I would recommend this game only for someone just getting into video games. Otherwise, don't waste your time. If you haven't played Jedi Outcast, buy it instead, regardless of the price. It's worth it. In fact, if my house burnt down today, with all my games, I would gladly pay $60.00 for the game, even though I've completed it. If you have played it, play it again on Jedi Master. I garantee, it will be much more satisfying than playing Academy. I've been playing games for the majority of my life, and have never seen a better game than Outcast, and while it's still fun, i've never seen a more poorly planned game than Academy (no offense intended, Lucasarts, and I commend you on Outcast). If you are terrible at video games, this is a goody. While these attributes can be passed off as innocent mistakes, the story was very poorly done. With little or no depth, as opposed to the sensatiable twists, turns, and mysteries of Outcast. In short, life is too short to hold room for Academy. Buy Outcast if you haven't already. You won't regret your choice. You just might with Academy. Good Luck, and May the Force guide your choice. THE FORCE IS NOT A SHIELD TO PROTECT THE USELESS, BUT IS IN REALITY, A WEAPON TO EMPOWER THE WORTHY!-Lord Desaan

Rating: Summary: THIS GAME WILL MAKE YOU SCREAM, "I AM A JEDI!" Review: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy will make you feel like you are a jedi. You start out as a teenage "jedi-apprentice-to-be" nammed Jaden. Throughout the game, you fight through millions, yes, I mean millions,of foes. There are many types of enemies throught the game. I've played smoothly with as many as 50 enemies within 20 ft. of me. In times of high danger, you have only 2 friends: your double-eged, dual, or single-bladed, lightsaber, and cover. Also, unlike in Jedi Outcast, where you are a jedi no matter what, you can choose which side of the force you want to be on. It really helps the games "feel." I have only three complants for this game and they are as follows: 1. The story could use some work. You start out in a short "tutorial" type traaining mission and then have a set of five missons that can be played in any order and have no relation to each other whatsoever. As bad as it may seem, you don't really need much of an incentive to slay a mutated rancor while being attacked by 20 reborn warriors, now do you? 2. The game is a bit slow at times, especially on the level where you are trying to sabotage an imperial tibanna gas platform. You can actually see the frames moving, but that can be solved by simply turning the graphics settings down. Overall, BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW AND STOP SITTING IN FRONT OF YOUR MONITOR, EATING A BAG OF CHIPS!!!
Rating: Summary: The greatest FPS of all time Review: Yes, I said the title, and I meant the title. I've never played a game from the FPS genre which I've played for so many hours on end. The single player has a lot of replayability, at least for me. You're able to select from 5 different races, and customize them from clothes, color of clothing, faces, and, in the case of the twi'lek, skin color. Then you create a lightsaber by choosing from a bunch of different hilts and 5 different colors. Once you're done with creating your character, sit back and enjoy the cool cut scenes, story, and gameplay. While the single player is good, multiplayer is even better. I've spent hours playing against other players online. The duel servers are fun, and a good way to improove skill. You wait in line as about 5 other people fight the current champion of the server. Once the champ is down, he goes to the back of the line and the person who beat him fights until he, too, is defeated. Duel servers disable force abilities and guns, so you have to rely on your raw saber skills to win, which is why I said these are good practice servers. CTF and siege I don't really enjoy. I haven't played them enough to give them a full review, though. FFA and team FFA are where the real fun and laughs of this game are. This is where you put the skill you built up on duel servers to use. Force abilities and usualy guns are enabled on these servers, besides the standard lightsaber. While jumping into a chaotic setting of 5 players all fighting eachother with lightsabers is fun, even more fun is blowing them all to pieces with a rocket launcher. If guns aren't your thing, you can also electricute them with force lightning. There's nothing quite as satisfying as meeting the current leader in frags near a ledge, and easily pushing him into a bottomless pit or lake of lava with force push. If that's not enough, you can also select from 3 different styles of lightsabers (single, dual sabers, or saberstaff, which is what darth maul used). Also, you can choose from a ton of characters from the game to use. If playing as the game's final boss, or a stormtrooper with darth maul's lightsaber doesn't appeal to you, there's the character creation option from single player. If you're STILL unsatisfied, take a trip over to jk3files.com and download some fan-made skins, models, maps, and even new races to play as in multiplayer and single player. Some of the skins in my collection are Link (from Legend of Zelda), Spider-man, and Darth Vader. Some of the races are Chiss, the lizard race that Desann was, and even JAWA! This game, and Jedi Outcast, for that matter, shouldn't be in the FPS category. The only reason they are is that you can use guns if you want to (you usualy don't, it's almost never a good idea in single player). They really need a new genre dedicated to them. I call it TPF, Third Person Fighter. After playing a while, you'll see what I mean. Using lightsabers take skill, and there are different combos and moves you can do by pressing certain things at certain times. For example, the rolling stab move is foward, crouch, primary attack. Butterfly is foward, then jump and attack at the same time. I really recommend this game, it's a must have for fans of star wars or FPS or both.
