Summary: Hmm...
Review: When Diablo II came out I bought it immediately expecting it would be at least as fun as the first possibly more fun.

I got bored of the game easily. The thing I really didn't like was certain enemys that just run away. You have to chase them for what seems like an eternity till you finally catch them and slaughter them, and if you decide to just let them run away they'll continuously come back to haunt you. Then to make things worse the game doesn't save what you've killed so if you decide your done playing for the day the next time you play all the runners will be back. These enemys are called flayers and when I first encountered them I got bored of fighting them over and over and discontinued my gameply and moved to a different game.

Another thing I didn't like is running. Not that running is bad, in fact I love the fact that you can move faster, the problem with it is that the background (trees, grass, etc.) really bothered my eyes with it scrolling past so quickly. That is not as big a deal as the run-a-way enemys, however.

If you like to chase endless hords of enemys then the game is for you. If not don't bother with it.

Summary: Worth the wait
Review: Wow! As of this moment I have finished the game on normal difficulty and am about halfway through it again on Nightmare difficulty. And having a blast.

If you prefer deep, thought provoking games with amazing plot twists and mind-bending puzzles, this is not the game for you. Diablo II, like Diablo, is pure hack-and-slash-treasure-accumulating mayhem. It is not intellectual, but it is great fun!

The new character classes are unique and interesting. My favorites so far are the amazon, since you can kill the monster at range before it ever hits you, and the sorceress, because, well... she has all that cool magic. I'm not so sure about the necromancer, who runs around with dead things, but the paladin and the barbarian appear to be great melee combatants.

The new item system builds on the system in Diablo. On top of stuff like 'Obsidian Amulet of Stability,' you can also find set items, which are several items which, if worn together, have some sort of bonus associated with them. However, it's difficult to put a set together, and the bonus is not always worth the effort. Also, you can find seven different types of gems, each of which can be one of five different qualities (chipped, flawed, et al) Each gem gives a certain ability to a weapon, a helmet, or a shield, including increased stats, increased elemental defense, increased chance to find magic items.

On the down side, the game can bog down horribly, to the point where literally several seconds can go by between your actions. There have already been two patches, in the first two weeks, and rumor has it another patch is on the way. The online gaming, via Battlenet is often down, and even when you can get connected, there is often severe lag (on top of the slow down I already mentioned), and often you will lose your connection.

Overall, great game! I highly recommend it. My only suggestion is that if you go on Battlenet, try to keep your sense of humor.

Summary: Fun, but frustrating!
Review: I have to say the only thing wrong with this software is its lack of quality control. I own a TNT card, and even after the 1.01 patch and the new drivers for the card, it is still buggy. Coupled with a new save feature that respawns all your enemies when you save. Blizzard needs to fix the bugs and the save features, because after crashing every 10 min, you would be upset.

Summary: Great Game - Multi Player Not so good.
Review: Ok I have read a lot of reviews on this game. There are only two things to keep in mind:

1) It is Diablo and is great fun. The character updates alone are worth the purchase price. It has a story, which adds to the flavor of the game.

2) Multi-player has problems. You have no doubt read that there have been several patches. These patches are for MULTIPLAYER! Blizzard is doing a great job supporting the LAG and Server issues. Don't worry about it. They will get it fixed.

Until the multipayer problems are fixed I can give DII only 4 stars. Why? The reason to play is to be able to play with freinds and family.

Summary: Almost Perfect
Review: Diablo 2 is almost everything I had hoped for in a sequel, If it wasn't for the dissapointing graphics and the game lags at the WORST possible time, I would have given it a 5, even including these flaws its still an EASY 4. The new character classes are excellent and as diverse as you could get while still playing the same game. The number of different weapons etc boggle the mind with the addition of Gems, Set Items and Rare items to add to the Magical and Unique items found in the original game. If you liked the original, you owe it to yourself to buy the sequel.

Summary: Second thoughts
Review: I sent in a review two weeks ago - and gave Diablo II a very ordinary review. Last night I spent several hours back playing Diablo 1(Hellfire)to get a stronger sense of contrast. Several differences were very apparent:

Diablo 2 has firing on angles down perfectly - if you ever thought in D1 that you had an opponent highlighted, only to find a fireball or arrow miss completely, D2 wont do this: tricky angles or not, if they're highlighted BLAST 'EM.

D2 characters can run - what a bloody relief! This alone makes D1 pale by contrast.

D2 dungeon graphics are good - better than D1. Though the wilderness graphics are suprisingly poor, the D2 dungeons have a great feel to them: far richer and more engrossing than D1.

Dealing with non-player characters (NPCs) in the various towns is much better in D2. Not having the same damn greeting said over and over as you buy something is great - and separate visits to an NPC during the one town visit are handled almost as one long interaction: nice one.

A definite hassle though is the time needed to play the game - no more "a quick 20 minutes play before we have to go" : you have no choice but to play for large contiguous periods; a decidedly misguided piece of programming. This comes about because of the games insistence on completing a quest/scenario before it is safe to save. And having to go back through constantly regenerated areas is very dull - thank goodness for the ability to run (and run... and run... and run...)

One final point - with the money they must have made from D1, why couldn't Blizzard hire someone to write a decent story line? Yet again we have an aimless, purposeless story that means nothing in the broader context of the game. I strongly suspect that the programmers and animators were responsible for the story, rather than a Writer.

Summary: Excellent game but buyer beware!
Review: After playing D2 since it's release and closely monitoring the forums I have a few comments to make about the game. First and foremost certain users will encounter less than favorable results. I will list these first.

#1 Dell Computer Users /w GeForce 64mb DDR video cards will be unable to run in Direct 3d until patched.

#2 Those of you that are lucky enough to get Direct3d to run with regular 64mb cards will not be able to play on bnet in d3d due to long load times. (This includes GeForce 2 users)

#3 Some CD-rom owners may not be able to play do to a undetectable CD error.

#4 DVD-rom owners may also encounter these problems.

#5 Battle.net is nowhere near as stable as it was for Diablo I and Starcraft so don't go in optomistic.

#6 Hacking is already apparent in open battle.net games but is unheard of on closed battle.net games (realm games) downfall: realms are slow and frequently offline.

With that out of the way I would like to say that the game is by far improved over the original Diablo with many new skills and features. Graphics, large acts, bosses, and many other new features will keep you engrossed for many hours.

Bottom Line: As soon as the bugs are worked out (currently ver. 1.2) and battle.net stabalizes this is the best game you can spend your money on. Whether you are on RPG fan or not, Diablo II is the creme de la creme.

Summary: A must have....
Review: I finished D2 last night around 2 am, I can tell you that this game kicks! Yeah we all know that it lacks better graphics and it has some trouble with all the patches and glitches, but trust me that once you get to Act 4 and kick some Diablo Butt, you think that it ends there and yes it does until you see the epilogue....and all I can say is that Blizzard Entertainment rules and I commend all the people who made this Diablo series a reality to us role player addicts like myself and now the wait begins for Diablo 3.

Keep up the good work Blizzard!

Luis

Summary: It's okay
Review: Well, my whole opinion of this game goes like this, the game itself <plot, characters, and gameplay> is what makes me give it 4 stars. However despite all of its pros I have noticed that the cons made me give it ONLY 4 stars, such as it's lag time and it's non improvement in it's graphics. I really like the game overall and am happy with the purchase of it.
