Rating: Summary: Don't try to play this game online, Battle.net is too flaky Review: I've played the first Diablo, and I liked that game a lot. Diablo II is similar. Missing however, is the tactics that some of the bosses used in the first Diablo. These different tactics made certain bosses very difficult to kill, and this really added to the game. In Diablo II, even Diablo himself did not prove very difficult to dispatch. I got Diablo II because I wanted to play on-line. Battle.net is a huge disappointment. It keeps going down, and the ping rates I get from it are all over the map. One minute I get a ping of 40 (which is ideal), and the next it is 10,000 (which is horrible). When the ping goes over 1000, expect your character to die, and for you to not even see the enemy that killed him/her. There are articles all over the net on this. It is called death by lag. Look into it before you buy this game to play on-line. It makes the game frustrating and not at all enjoyable. If you are not going to play over the net, then Diablo II by itself would probably get 3 stars, but because Battle.net is so awful, its 1 star, and lucky to get that.
Rating: Summary: Good for a few months Review: Diablo 2 is a game where you choose a class and run around exploring dungeons gaining experience and collecting items. This concept goes way back to the old days of Rogue and Dungeon Hack and perhaps even Adventure! so the idea is nothing new. Regardless, it is a fun game. The classes are different enough to make one interesting and there are tons of items to equip your character with. However, what keeps it from getting the 5 stars? First of all, the classes are inbalanced as only a few of them actually are able to complete the game on the hardest setting (Hell, Players 8) where as other classes do not even have a chance. If you want to make a character that is different from the run-of-the-mill fantasy stereotype it will be hard to make a good one past nightmare. Also, the spells need more variety as alot of them are just hopped up versions of the ones you get earlier in the game and some skills are just worthless. Add that to the slow and unreliable servers Battlenet has up and running, and your online experiences will be varied on the scale of entertainment. It is a good game for a while and offers plenty of replay value but it only takes so long till you are bogged down by the imbalances and repetiveness. I would definitely recommend buying the expansion in addition to it as it would greatly heighten your gaming experience.
Rating: Summary: Major crisis......I need help people! Review: Great game....great action.......great tools but does anyone know how to [defeat] the giant slug or whatever he is. I think his name is Duriel or something. I'm an amazon and I can't [defeat] him. If anyone has a suggestion e-mail me at irinahat@yahoo.com, or write a review. Thanx, buy!
Rating: Summary: Does not get much worse than this Review: This game is truly horrible in my opinion. It has no real plot, there are only 5 classes, You cannot customize what your characters look like or sound like, the side quests are horrible(if any). All you do is kill ,kill, kill. Missile weapons have no real use here because you are constantly being bombarded with monsters that blow up into a disgusting pile of blood when you kill them. The people who made the game are geniuses, I would never in a thousand years find so many ways to make a game terrible.
Rating: Summary: To U Kids who need parents to understand its not violent Review: This game is a very entriuging game. I know this 4 experience. This game contains little to no violence, unlike the box says. The only kind of "gore" the game has is maybe a corpse after u defeat an enemy, but that goes away farely quickly. TRUST ME, it is not violent in any way. Think of it as self defense. While you adventure in the game things attack you not nise-nersa. So allow your kids or whoever to have a good time and understand that games like this are very unviolent and totally over rated in the violence scale.
Rating: Summary: Best game in years. Review: I have had this game ever since it came out, and still play it to this day, for you can never truley beat it with online (b.net) game play. At first it did have a few problems, but they have been fixed in their new patch which can be downloaded from their offical website. This game had 5 characters that complete quest, gain items and gold, get skills , and of course, battle evil. Some hot pc magazines said it was just a point and click game, but it is far more then that. This game requires skill, stratergy, and imagination. Expecially if you choose to duel other players on battle.net (b.net) which is a game in itself. If you enjoy this, i highly recommend you get the expansion pack for it adds so many things to diablo2, it makes you never want to play the origional again. ~hope this helps
Rating: Summary: Great game Review: This is one addictive game. I loved this game as soon as I started playing. Having waited so long for the sequel to Diablo, one of my all time favorites, I was not disappointed. The play control is easy to manage, the inventory is convenient, and the online games are great. Heartily recommended.
Rating: Summary: Game of the year! Review: This game (although somewhat old now) get's the 2001 Bytronix game of the Year award. For whatever that's worth. My personal favorite game at present. Be sure to get the expansion as well.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best game ever made Review: Diablo II has been around quite a while now, but it remains in my mind the greatest game ever made. I was one of many who waited impatiently for untold months for Blizzard to finish the sequel to the original Diablo, and I was by no means disappointed. Blizzard does not release a game until it is really ready for prime time. The most amazing thing about this game is its disarming simplicity. All you need is a mouse and a finger to click with, yet the action is often intense and the experience completely absorbing. When you get right down to it, killing demons and other nefarious beasts is just plain fun. The game can get rather difficult at times, yet this is a game that even I, inept player that I am, have actually been able to complete all on my own. This game took everything good about the original Diablo and just multiplied it. You now have four entirely different regions to explore, each featuring a number of NPCs-some more helpful than others. You've still got your basic dungeon campaigns, but you also get to explore wild forests, desert sands, and ethereal regions somewhere between earth and the netherworld. Your choices of how to fight are varied indeed; you can choose to fight as one of five different hero types, each of which requires its own unique strategy. I tend to stay with the barbarian because I find it the easiest to control (it's all about slicing and dicing). If you want to use a lot of magic, you have to do a lot more clicking in order to change spells and refresh your manna-when you are surrounded by demons, this can get rather difficult. The NPCs afford you a lot of choices in terms of armor and weapons, but of course you have to earn the cash to pay for the high-dollar stuff by slaughtering untold demon hordes. The monsters you encounter in your travels are diverse and sometimes daunting. You have to use a little skill (or a lot of luck) to defeat some of the premier baddies you will run across, but one advantage this game offers is the aid of a companion. When the going gets tough, a partner firing arrows left and right can be a great help. If you worry about the length of the game, rest assured that there is action enough to keep you clicking for untold hours. There are four "parts" to the game (with very cool introductory sequences), each one featuring about 10 different areas and six significant quests. Finishing the game will take some a lot of time and effort, but it can be done; as soon as you finish, though, you are ready to dive back in and do the whole thing all over again. There is only one negative thing I can say about Diablo II. Death can find you very quickly, yet you cannot save the game as you go along and return to the exact same spot later. When you load a saved game, you start at the central location of the region and have to make your way back the hard way to the spot you previously occupied-the status of your quests is unchanged, and you can still "see" areas you have visited, but it's annoying to have to trek through a couple of lands just to get back to where you already were. Diablo II is incredibly addicting; you may sit down planning on playing an hour or two, and the first thing you know you've been fighting evil for four or five hours (and you still aren't ready to stop). If you enjoy online gaming, the danger of obsession only grows. Blizzard's free Battlenet online gaming service remains the standard by which all other online gaming services are judged. Blizzard does everything the right way, and Diablo II is a shining example of their commitment to the thoughts and desires of the gaming community. Twenty years from now, I will still be playing Diablo II.
Rating: Summary: Why Can't I Stop??? Help! Review: This game is hugely fun and incredibly addictive. I've been out of the gaming for some time but played Diablo I way back when and, after being bored one day, bought Diable II and have not been disappointed. I agree with another reviewer that the graphics are very similar to the first Diablo, but the game is terribly fun to play even when you are side-tracked off of whatever "quest" you are on at the moment. Customizing your person is a blast, and the incredible array of weapons and armor is cool. My only reservations from the five star mark is that I found myself frustrated more than a few times when I simply wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing at a given time. I have plenty of game left to play right now but I had to order the strategy guide because I'm plain out stuck, and I hate those books. At any rate this game is still a big success and will not disappoint.
