Rating: Summary: Got me Into RPG's Review: I had never played an RPG before Diablo II, they had never interested me. I have always been a fan of strategy/war games and simulations. I found Diablo II impossible to put away. The first time through single player experience is so rewarding it's not even worth discussing. What really sets the game apart is the mltiplayer (free) and continuing single player options. You could still be trying new things out when Diablo III comes out (knowing Blizzard that should be around 2004).
Rating: Summary: EXCELLANT Review: The hype for this game last summer was well worth the game. This game was done VERY well. Use a 3dfx with Glide and you can see the tree's animate as you walk by. Who says that the best graphics have to be first-person shooters? This game is not for the faint hearted (or the babtist?), this game takes up a ton of time. Beating Diablo is a long hard path, it's best to have a friend along the way. Even more fun than the original Diablo!
Rating: Summary: What Diablo 2 really is all about! Review: Alright, I have played the Diablo series for over 2 years.. I have never, ever gotten bored of it. The replay value is infinite and it is very balanced.. The graphics are technically top of the line... While it is only played in 640x480 resolution and 256 colors they render it to look beautiful like that.. The reason it is only 640x480 and 256 colors is for the simple fact that there are sooooooo many animations that if they we're at least 16-bit color they couldn't fit them all on the cd.The colored lighting is great, if you have a 3d card (which every gamer should). The game is plenty long. The music isn't as awsome as Diablo 1 but it's still very good. The NPC's have a great amount of feeling in them and you actually really get to get a sence of how they really are. The sound fx are great quality. All the graphic fx are beautiful.. However.. this game does have it's flaws.. Most will be fixed very soon though.. These being: For one, the barbarian is a bit too strong, in higher levels you get bored of being (in my case) the only level 60 sorceress along with 7 other level 60-80 barbs.. Battle.net, as good as it was, now is very often lagged.. however, still playable. There is also a problem with getting into and making games but this all will be fixed. Blizzard, however, is fairly slow in fixing these anoying bugs... There really aren't alot of problems with Diablo 2 for the most part.. I've played Diablo 2 since the beta and Diablo 1 for over two years and as an experienced player I can say this game is well worth your buck or I should say.. this game is well worth your buck, if Blizzard fixes the small anoying bugs which put scratches in this masterpeice.
Rating: Summary: Limited Replay Value Review: Diablo 2 is a good game, but it lacks replay value. (a) The levels are *not* randomly generated, despite what the game claims. They're mildly rearranged, but this doesn't hide the fact that you're in, say, the Cold Plains or the Blood Moor. The quests are always the same from game to game. The areas are the same. The sequence of events is always the same. (b) Unless you're playing, say, a Barbarian, you'll find yourself fighting through the same areas many times in order to get the experience you need to move forward. This gets boring. (c) The game isn't open-ended. There is no campaign editor, as in games like Half Life, Quake, Starcraft, etc. You are stuck with the pre-defined areas to play in, and you are dependent on Blizzard releasing an "expansion" if you want more/new areas. (d) Although this is primarily a "shooter" type game, you can only wield one weapon at a time. This effectively makes characters like the Amazon a joke, and almost elminates strategic weapons usage like switching from a ranged weapon to a close combat weapon. In general, while this game does have a lot of positive qualities (it's a typical Blizzard game, with a friendly UI, good art, good music), it also leaves much to be desired.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Game - Terrible On-Line Service Review: The programmers and Game Designers that created this game did a great job, the game itself is very enjoyable. However if you want to play the game in a secure multiplayer environment (battle.net) forget it. The Diablo 2 on-line realms are virtually unplayable at this point due to lag, server instability, and software bugs. Blizzard has over the past few months continued to ignore the problems and has been tight lipped about communicating with customers relative to what the real problems are. If you're looking to buy a game to play in a secure (i.e. cheat/hack-free) multiplayer environment - I'd recommend skipping Diablo 2 until blizzard gets its problems fixed.
Rating: Summary: Mandatory Replayability Review: Blizzard has taken the position that allowing gamers to save their games is a form of cheating. Instead, they have autosaves at certain points in the game. When you die, you start over from the previous autosave. Sometimes, however, the time between autosaves is HOURS of gameplay. If you die prior to reaching the next autosave, expect to play the same scene over and over until you reach it. One of the highlights of D1 was that you could walk around and adventure a bit. If you walk around and adventure in D2, you risk getting killed and reverting back (possibly quite a long ways) to your previous autosave point. Hence, D2 requires frantic running from autosave-point to autosave-point with a couple hundred monsters on your tail in order not to keep replaying the same scene over and over and over. Players who are into adventuring and mapping and basically treating the game like they might the real world are punished. Players who like to finish games quickly by running from point A to point B through to point Z will enjoy D2. Needless to say, this gets tedious in a short while. I've only got about 10 hours (20 if you include replays) on the game but I haven't played it in months. Blizzard-If people want to "cheat" by saving their games every 5 minutes, who cares? Why make the game artificially more difficult? Have the autosave be an option only in a "difficult" setting. After such a long wait (I remember the screenshots from about 3 years ago) D2 was a terrible disappointment.
Rating: Summary: One of the most addictive games I've ever played!! Review: This is an awesome RPG. There are 5 different characters classes that you can choose from, and three difficulty levels to play the game, giving it immense replay capability, especially when you play online with other people over Battle.net.
One word of warning, though, this game is exteremely addictive. College students like me are warned that the game may cause them to miss a lot of class :-)
Rating: Summary: Overhyped! Review: This won't be popular but it could have been much better. Shall we start with some of the dated graphics? The game was pushed back so much they could have updated the beginning. How about the save game feature? What? You say there really isn't one? That's right; save the game and exit and the next time you begin, you're back in town and you have to retrace (read that as refight) your way back to where you left off. Improved inventory? Right! If you try to keep the good things (like gems) so that you can upgrade them, you'll run out of room real quick. In Diablo I, at least you could drop items on the ground and get them later. Not here. Exit the game and come back and all is gone unless it's carried by you or in your inventory chest. After all that negative, it's still an addictive game; just not worth all the hype. Act II can take forever when you're searching the jungle for one particular village. I've played it as Barbarian, Paladin and Amazon and the village is always in the last spot available. (Perhaps the game was designed that way.)
Rating: Summary: Great Game Review: Diablo 2 is far better than the first Diablo was. The graphics rock! I've been playing as a sorceress, and she looks real! All of the magick fireballs and ice bolts she shoots out look like they really happen. There's a great variety of monsters, too. This is a great game! I reccomend it to everyone who enjoys games like the first Diablo.
