Summary: Still in the top 3 of all time games -- nothing like it
Review: This is one of my favorite games in the world, i am in my 20s and still play this game. it is so time consuming and fun that i go to sleep thinking of it after playing for hours. Sid Meier is a genius. i have a ps2 and play that as well but Alpha Centauri and Civilization are still the most fun.

Summary: Well invested money
Review: This is without doubt one of the best games available for your computer, even if it isnt the newest one, doesnt have the best graphics or sound and all. But it is complex, every time you play it, different, and you can play the game also with your own restrictions and ideas to achieve your goal, which might, for you, vary from the one fixed by the game, why not?

Try for example to win the game without fighting one single war... It's difficult, but possible, so much about wars being impossible to avoid :)

I do like the balance between administration and action. You can manipulate a certain set of elements in your cities and conclude the consequences... It is good to know what is going on and what you can do to either keep the situation stable or improve it... And there is still plenty of action left in case a war with a neighbouring civilization is breaking out...

All in all, a well balanced game offering hours and hours of fun.

As for the scenarios: I checked them out but well, I must admit I never really could get into them as I could for the traditional Civilization game... Most of those scenarios need big improvement to gain the same complexity as the original game.

Summary: Absolutely addicting and lots of fun!
Review: This second Sid Meyer's game is absolutely one of the best computer games that has ever been made. I at first was completely dumbfounded by the whole nature of the game but gradually learned how it was done and now I absolutely love this game.

You start in the year 6000 B.C. as a single settler and found your capital city and then as you start building warriors (At the beginning of the game, your civilization is primitive and tribal), explore the continent and found new cities to expand your civilization's borders.

As the game goes on, settlers, military units will inevidently encounter individuals from other civilizations. Be very careful though because you may have no idea of the other civilizations are friendly, neutral, or hostile so be prepared for anything. After that, there are many options for forging alliances between civilizations and playing the game by dove politics or world domination and conquering the entire planet!! I once in fact did just that, conquer the entire planet on this game!

This game comes with 28 Wonder of The WOrld some of which aren't really all that much to write home about except to raise your city (cities) to the Top 5 list but others however will benifit your civilization for the rest of the game. Three architectural styles also are in this game as well. My favorite style is the old fashioned Medievel castles(Pre-industrialization) styles especially when playing the VIkings, English, Spanish, or the Germans. I do love though the big cities by the end and are amazing to look at.

The graphics even if a bit crude by todays standards are really amazing even by 1996 standards. The music is mostly ho-hum in my opinion but at least you can run the game without the CD-ROM which is a big plus if you want to listen to a music CD while playing! The game runs quite well on my computer even if the computer is of an older model and I've never experienced any bugs while playing.

Watch your civilization evolve from a one-village tribe to a gargantuan military empire over the 'years' and have a swell time! For all we know, it would be useful if there was a magic trick that could transfigure one into a pocketwatch because once you start playing, you just might end up losing track of time and will be playing for hours on end.

Sid Meyers truly created a timeless game for all ages. A pity the third installment came nowhere close to this.

Summary: A game that is less than the sum of its parts
Review: This version of Civ is a poor attempt to update those great earlier games, Civ and Civ 2. While GT took a lot of thought about what might be neat to add to the game, they put little thought into how these additions would affect game play and balance. I found the game interface difficult, the new additions unbalancing, and the entire game to be a frustrating experience. I give them an extra star for creativity, but while some parts are nice, this game is a failure on the whole.

Summary: Thrill for the little dictator in your heart
Review: We have all played Civ 2, because this is a winner of all the games so far. The Gold edition goes step beyond. Principally it hasn't changed, but it has extras, and a lot of them. I must mention a lot of different scenarios, possibilities to make your own scenarios (yes, not just maps!) and a huge manual, which describes virtually everything. We (Civ 2 fans)will again sit for hours in front of our gray boxes with red eyes and if anyone will look at us will shortly realize that we are completely insane. If I may phrase one famous cartoon character:'What will we do tomorrow night?' 'The same thing we do every night: Try to take over the world!'

Summary: INCREDIBLE
Review: Well, Civ 2 was just great! It was a great game. When Civ 2 Gold came out, I thought, "Great. Another upgrade." I thought it wouldn't be worth the money. I changed my mind real quick when I played it! It has all the great things from the oiginal Civ 2, and TONS more. Most noticable change: MULTIPLAYER! Great multiplayer mode, where you can play your own map, a scenario, or a regular game. There is even a "hot-seat" option for two or more human players! However, in my opinion, the best thing about this game is the incredible amount of scenarios. It comes with two scenario packages: Fantastic Worlds and Conflicts in Civilization. Fantastic worlds is great fun! It has 15 scenarios, with things like being able to play dinosaurs! Conflicts is great too, with battles like Desert Storm to act out with your friends or by yourself. Just like Civ 2 regular, it comes with a map editor to make your own worlds. However, in Civ 2 Gold, you can also make your own SCENARIOS. It is used like the still-present cheat mode, allowing you to edit units, towns, science, turns, everything! Put this together with cheat mode, and you can make your own scenario masterpieces! As for the gameplay, its great! the controls for multiplayer negotiating are perfect! This game is very challenging, for the newbies and the unexperienced. It features alliances, scientific progress, strategic military warfare, negotiating, building cities, trading, keeping track of supply and demand, and building wonders of the world! It also comes with a large fold- out poster of Advances and Unit stats! The well-written 275-page manual should leave all your questions answered, as it even gives you scenario descriptions. My conclusion: buy this game. Great game, two scenario packages, a map editor scenario editor, and MULTIPLAYER gaming up to 7 people. Get this game, it's one of the best games ever!

Summary: Civilization II
Review: While playing the utterly confusing at first game of civilization, I became slightly atrracted to it and noticing tiny flaws and betterings from the original version. Fr instance, they have created many new units and changed faces of land, added new civs etc. I found the game well worth the buy and the cheat menu extraordinary. I hope you enjoy this product as much as I. -CJK

Summary: Civ II: The Best Computer Game Ever
Review: You can probably tell from the title of this review that I like this game quite a bit. If I had just bought a computer and were looking for a first game to purchase, this would definitely be it.

Why is this so great? First of all is the price. I paid around $50.00 for the original Civ II some years back. Today, you can get GOLD edition with more options for half that.

Secondly, even though Civ II is a strategy game, it is not difficult to get into. The instruction book is very well-written, but the best way to get the hang of it is simply by playing it. There is a tutorial which takes you step-by-step through the playing process.

I own some other strategy games, and Civ II is easily the best. It's a whole lot easier to play than a game like Caesar II, and much more enjoyable.

Warning: if you buy this, you lose ALL TRACK OF TIME when you play it. It's that addicting. Bravo!
