Rating: Summary: Command and Conquer is better Review: Starcraft is one of the most annoying games ive ever played. Sure, terran marines give u a little laugh now and then but the controls are frustrating. You have to right click(why not the usual left-click?) to select units and you cant deselect them. Building times are extremely long- and so are the units. Gameplay on my PC is overall boring and slow( on a Pentium II 400, voodoo3, 96mb RAM). I have only got up to the third terran mission then finally gave up. And whats up by only controlling 12 units at a time? The Command Conquer series lets you control all units you have on screen.Starcraft's ingame graphics aren't that good, FMV qualty is terrible and Battle.net gives you a pain in the a** because of its slow server and few options. Westwood online gives the player more options and is also faster. All in all, i say the command and conquer series is better - go play tiberian sun or red alert or any other C&C game - SC isnt worth your time or money.
Rating: Summary: The best RTS game I have ever played Review: Starcraft is the best RTS game I have ever played. The plot is captivating and highly relevant to the missions and the way the game is designed. The 30 challenging missions provide plenty of playing time. Battle.net is an excellent service for playing multiplayer games; it's never difficult to find someone to play against. Starcraft also has good options for head-to-head modem games; these are easy to set up. Playing over a LAN is easy, and delays are minimal even on a 56.6 KB / s network. The Campaign Editor is easy to use and extremely powerful; everything that appears in the missions can be created with the Editor. Missions created with the Editor can be played in multiplayer as well as single player games. As the name suggests, one can create campaigns as well as well as single missions with the Campaign Editor. The graphics are nothing special, but they are as good as they need to be. Improvements over Warcraft II are numerous. I won't list them here, but Starcraft is much more than a futuristic version of Warcraft II.
Rating: Summary: "Starcraft Widow's Lament" Review: Dear Blizzard, I am going to ask you nicely to give me my husband and 16 year old son back. I haven't seen them since they got Starcraft seven months ago. They usually beat a game or lose interest in it after a few months, but this has not happened with Starcraft. In fact with the way you have enabled them to creat their own scenarios, they just might never get tired of it. They play singly, they network all three of our computers, they play online. My husband says Starcraft is the best game ever created, and he is not given to superlatives, So, I beg you, tell my how to get my family back. At the very least, make them stop calling me "Miss Kerrigan"!
Rating: Summary: Good game, but some major flaws Review: The first three months or so I played StarCraft, I loved it. It seemed that nothing was wrong with this surprisingly bug free game. However, the more you play it, the more you will realise its huge flaws.Basically, it is an RTS, which means you start from scratch and build an empire. There are three races to choose from: the Terrans, whose strength is in special abilities like the nukes or Yamato guns but otherwise balanced between firepower and cost; the Zerg, whose advantage lies in its cheap units and their ability to build up a quick force; and the Protoss, whose units are far more advanced and expensive. The best race depends only on your playing style. Things go wrong however, when you realise that whoever can build up a force of their best unit wins every game. It is not a world-class general that wins, it is number of units. Too bad for me I am a slow builder and lose every game I play. Bottom line, the game's lightning fast pace may not be suitable for some gamers, in which case they should turn to the Age of Empires series.
Rating: Summary: Blizzard makes another great game Review: Blizzard makes another addictive game and if your worried about getting tired of playing the game dont worry youll never get tired of it its the kind of game that when you start to play you dont wont to stop it will keep you up late in the night.
Rating: Summary: Is this the game everyone thinks it is? Review: Well... I love starcraft, but... does everyone?. This is an excellent game if you like the Real time strategy games, like AOE (age of empires). This game begins from nothing. What i mean is that they created everything in this game: The story, the characters, the races, the moves... etc... The story is not the most amazing one i've ever seen, but is a pretty good one. You can choose from three races... each one with a different story that thogheter make a one... that is continued by Expansion pack: brood war. Buy this game if you want to ge excited and enjoy playing this game, but beware with it... it produces addiction... enjoy it...
Rating: Summary: An epic real-time strategy masterpiece. Review: I've only been an official PC gamer for about two years. The very thing that made me one was this game. When I first played it two years ago, I was hopelessly hooked. I was drawn into the interesting campaigns, the nice sci-fi visual ambience of it all, and how diverse the races are and how it provided great balance. After this game, I went farther into other PC titles, such as other strategy games and some 1st person shooters. As a matter of fact, you'll see me on Team Fortress Classic under the name of "Dragzag." All in all, Starcraft is what drew me to the wonderful world of PC gaming.
Rating: Summary: StarCraft vs. Tiberian Sun Review: Hm, Tiberian Sun or StarCraft? A question some may ask as to where they're spending their 30-50 bucks. STARCRAFT! Instead of two races with the same units (and the same names for cryin' out loud) you have three whom all their buildings and even the way of building them is unique. No Protoss player can create a Zerg/Terran unit unless you own Brood War and mind-controll a unit. If you don't own the expansion, GET IT! That's another review. Plus, you can actually stop a missle or ion cannon from crushing that main base of yours instead of being hit every 5 minutes by those free missiles. Plus, StarCraft is a much more difficult game to master. You might think that's a bad thing. But, after StarCraft for a year, it took me two weeks to crush Internet players while it took over six months to learn the art and beauty of true PC warfare. Don't let the graphics fool you, Tiberian Sun is a horrid attempt of Westwood to beat StarCraft.
Rating: Summary: This is a great game, blizzard's finest! Review: StarCraft is a great game i have played it for only 2 two months and i can't get away from it. usally when i beat game i just sell it at a yard sale but not this game the multiplayer is great if u have a dsl or a cable modem, 56k is fine but u get "Lag" anything slower is worthless. The Single play is great if u dont want to play multiplay and u can create your own maps and levels and play in a custom battle, in otherwords THIS GAME ROCKS!
Rating: Summary: A fast-paced "Cosmic Encounter" Review: Ever stayed up all night playing "Age of Empires" or other real-time strategy games, guiding your growing band of warriors and civilians through economic and military expansion? If this scenario sounds familiar or even appealing, "Starcraft" may have hours of not-altogether-disagreeable insomnia in store for you. What's familiar? Pseudo-independent units to herd over the terrain. Buildings which function as "factories" to breed or build various kinds of units. Missions which vary from wide-ranging search-and-destroy missions to drawn-out sieges where you concentrate on maintaining a fortified center and/or levelling your opponent's. With the good, comes the bad -- or at least part of it. Some of the quirky shortcomings of similar games are replicated: units can get trapped between buildings or between a building and the edge of the map, or take "imaginative" paths between two points, even casually wandering across enemy lines. Also, different units have no facility for working together without your direct intervention so that it is alternately dangerous and tedious to, for example, escort a particular unit, or keep troops in a battle out of friendly fire. There are certain Starcraft innovations which I have come to appreciate, such as the ability to place a unit on patrol between defined points, attacking any enemy units which come into range and resuming patrol when enemies have been defeated or driven away. The outstanding aspect of the game, however, may well be the sophisticated interplay of strengths, weaknesses and special abilities of the ground and air units belonging to the three represented races: Terran("Hi, mom!"), Zerg (think of the movie "Aliens") and Protoss (somewhere in between Klingons and Jedi Knights?). Playing each race against the others, or even against its own kind, requires different strategies, and combinations and confrontations of units offer (and require) a dizzying array of tactics.
