Summary: Still among the best real time strategy games
Review: Starcraft is still among the best of the real time strategy games. I especially like the inclusion of three factions with different abilities requiring different strategies to succeed. Get it with the Brood War expansion and have fun!

Summary: One of the Best PC Games Ever
Review: This game is simply one of the best real-time strategy games ever. The graphics in this game are great, yet not complex enough to inhibit the speed of any computer greater than 166mhz.

The gameplay is also excellent. You can play the story's campaigns alone or multiplayer with a few of your friends. There is no lag time between computers (at least the ones I've played on, and they're all 200mhz or greater) and competition can be intense.

Like the other reviewers, I have played Warcraft, and this game is much better. It's not another Warcraft (although the name might insinuate it). Some strategies may apply to both games, but Starcraft is easier to learn and more fun to play alone.

Starcraft vs. Warcraft? Starcraft, hands down.

Summary: A Great Game
Review: Starcraft is the best Real Time Strategy (RTS) game I have seen. Its biggest strength is that it has three races that are significantly different. Furthermore, the game is balanced better than any other RTS game is. Every unit of every race may be useful to you at the end of the game.

The downsides of Starcraft are the graphics and the plot. The graphics are not as good as some of the similar games out there. Although the plot does go through some twists and turns, its obvious that the single player plot is not the major focus for the game designers. If you are just going to play single player or like to look at really cool graphics, some of the other RTS games may be better.

I can also think of lots of cool things that could be in Starcraft but are not. I would love to see a 3D world where the terrain affected a units vision more accurately and the distance on ranged shots. I would love to see the weather and the time of day affect battles. I also want to be able to control the formations my units move it, their aggressiveness, and how they react to my orders.

But I forgive Blizzard for not giving me every feature I want. They do not have infinite amounts of time and people. And features can easily detract from the overall gaming experience. They have enough features to make the game interesting, while not so many features to make it a burden to play.

If you like multiplayer strategy games, then buy Starcraft. It will definately be worth the money. I am still playing Starcraft years after I bought it.

Summary: Best Game Ever Made
Review: This game is amazing. The single player is great and the multiplayer is amazingly engrossing. I am addicted to this thing, in my eyes it's better than anything out now or ever.

Summary: One of the most interesting games out there
Review: Many things make a good computer game, among them are how long the game can keep you occupied. Starcraft offers you a long gameplay, in which you may often lose, but your loss will also teach you something. If you lose, you will want to continue the battle, nowing that you learned much from the previous battle. If you are looking for a challenging game that has good multiplayer capabilities, then this should be right up on your list.

Summary: It's OK
Review: First of all I would like to confirm that yes, this game is good and probably worth the money, but it's flaws prevent it from getting 3, 4 or even 5 stars. I'll start off with reasons WHY you should get this:

1. It's fun

2. It's addictive (for a few months)

3. There are three races

4. Probably the best and most organized plot in any RTS I've played.

So to summarize, this game is easy to play and once you start playing you keep playing. It's also one of the few games that you get more than two races to choose from, and they are all quite different. But unfortunately gameplay is not. On to the bad sides now.

1. Absolutely no strategy involved

2. Incredible lag online

3. Solo play campaigns are very difficult and tedious (not in the usual sense)

4. Lacking in unit variety

5. Lacking in creativity and element of warfare

6. Units, researches, and structures take an inconcievably long period of time to complete

7. Nothing special in terms of graphics

So you probably doubt what I've said here, simply because no one else here dares to mention anything about the problems of Starcraft. Most people who review games are simply fanatics perusing the web for anything on their favorite game, in this case it's Starcraft. Let me promise you that if you asked any die-hard Starcraft fan about these flaws, they would simply deny them or try to change the subject.

The main problem I found with this game was the fact that the only way to complete a mission, online or singleplayer, is to build as many units as possible and attack. In most strategy games we refer to this tactic as a RUSH or (unit name here)RUSH. But in Starcraft this tactic is called THE ONLY TACTIC. Trust me on this one, there is simply no way to crush your opponent in any other fashion than producing more units than him. One reason is because Blizzard provided scarcely enough units for you to work with in terms of strategic possibility, as opposed to say Red Alert 2. Westwood clearly knew what they were doing when they made that game: infinite possibilities, numerous units, plus you can do things like garrison neutral buildings and kill civilians.

If Red Alert 2 is a Real Time Strategy Game then Starcraft is a Real Time Role Playing Game. This is because Starcraft focuses on the unit, not the army; so you're entire gameplay expierience will be focused on units and groups of units, as opposed to how you use those units. You can't even wage economic warfare as in attacking harvesters, because they always stay in the enemies base perfectly safe. Yet another major drawback is the fact that there is a limited number of units you can produce. Strange that a game whose most tactically diverse strategy is to mix different types of units and rush, is limited to a specific maximum.

With all due respect, Starcraft is a very awkward and backwards game in the world of RTS. But of course so is Warcraft series, same faults apply. All in all, I'd say buy this game if you like Warcraft and Command & Conquer; but my main point is that this is not the best RTS game, it's far from it.

Summary: The reason I finally bought a computer
Review: I would play this at a friend's house and it made me realize how good computer games had become. I was just as happy to watch him as play and that seems to be the best indicator of how fun this game is. I still suck at it. There are three races with different approaches to how they defend and attack and within this is different strategies of each. You can decide with the humans to rely on overwhelming an opponent with marines or use tanks to bombard from a distance or even to use stealth with characters that can become invisible. There is a lot of strategy and planning involved with this, plus with the expansion packs and free downloads from blizzard, you have hundreds of campaigns for around.... Then there is going online and playing friends, which I haven't even done yet, but is supposed to be the funnest way to play.

Summary: Truly AMAZING!
Review: This game has to be the greatest stratergy game ever! It requires tons of thinking and planning. If you stop playing for like 5 minutes, that will mean that you've probably lost the battle, because you have given up so much building time, unless you are an expert that can get everything together really fast. The graphics are decent, but graphics does not really matter in this game. The battle.net debut in this game really adds a whole lot of value. You have the ability to play online with people all the way from Korea. Now you can REALLY test your skills agaisnt the pros.
