Rating: Summary: AOM IS NOT AOK! Seriously dissapointing! MS going BACKWARDS! Review: Dear readers, after reading most of the reviews here which were positive with high ratings, I was wondering whether everyone else was playing the same AOM game that I was! OK, please let me make this very clear, AOM IS NOT THE SAME AS, OR EVEN SIMILAR TO AOK! It is not even close! When I first got AOE a few years ago, I really liked it and thought things couldn't get better but they did with the release of AOK and then the AOK Conqueror's expansion pack. I totally love AOK and AOKC, so like most of you I was eagerly awaiting the release of AOM. However, as soon as I got it and started playing, I was deeply dissapointed, the graphics are absolutely AWFUL, NOT even proper 3D, they are not even as good as the graphics of AOK, the gameplay is really LOUSEY, the units move VERY SLOWLY, even though I have a very fast computer with all the extras. There are 3 civilizations, Greek, Egyptian and Norse, they are not very well balanced and this makes the game predictable and boring. The units in general are poorly designed, they are as big as the houses, they lack definition and seem to be neither male or female. The units do things slowly and often don't follow instructions, they seem to wander off and do their own thing. Also, everything is very small and difficult to see, the scenery is DULL and DEPRESSING. The AI is OK but could be better, there are 36 levels and the end is so stupid that it makes you wonder whether this game was a serious effort or just a cheap product designed to fool AOK fans in to buying it. It is nothing like AOK where everything was crystal clear and one could have fun making plans and executing exciting battles. After the 36 levels are done, the game is more or less useless. Overall, I think that even 1 star is too much for this game, I think MSFT and Ensemble have taken several steps BACKWARDS and seriously need to get back on the "AOK track" again! I was so dissapointed with this game that after completing it (which only took about 5 days), I sold it to a friend for half price! Next time I will not rush out and buy MSFT's next offering without playing the demos first! This game is NOT an extension or improvement of AOK but a stand alone BLUNDER which they seriously need to learn from, it has seriously dented their good reputation. I really hope they can get back to basics and make a better game next time... In the meantime, I am gonna stick to playing the fantastic AOK and AOK Conqueror's expansion!
Rating: Summary: The best yet from Ensemble Studios Review: Awsome graphics. Superb sound. Impeccable game interface. This game is certaintly the best in the Age of Series. The balance is good. I very much like the 3 types of units (human, heroic, and mythic). It gives the game more variety and tactical challenge. The only thing is the game is too slow for me (45 min. to 2 hr.), so I would reccomend Red Alert 2 for those of you that are like me. Other than that this game is perfect.
Rating: Summary: This is a great game, but not worth $30.00 Review: Age of Mythology is a good game, but it is not worth $30.00. The game play is a lot of fun. The trees fall over when villagers havest wood, and the mythical monsters are cool. There are short movies in between parts of the campaign that add suspense and help to keep you updated on the games happenings. The only problem with the game as far as I can tell is the campaign's length. It includes all the civilizations, but is two short. One other problem is the editor. I enjoyed creating campaigns of my own in Age of Empires, but it is harder in Age of Mythology
Rating: Summary: Titanic battles Review: The Titans expansion adds the Atlantean civilization to Age of Mythology along with its gods, heroes, myth units and their Titan. Titans are an incredibly powerful myth unit, capable of destroying entire cities. Each civilization has the capability of researching the Titan gate, which will allow them to unleash their own Titan upon the world. While Titans can be defeated, it usually takes another Titan. So, you'll need to play like Nathan Bedford Forest, "Get there firstis, with the mostis", before an enemy opens their gate. All in all, this game is a definite keeper.
Rating: Summary: Age of Mythology Kicks Ass Review: This is the best game ever. I can't stop playing it. I fully recomend this game to any mythology lovers or fans of Age of Empires. Anyone will enjoy being able to worship the anchient gods, and use mythicle units. This game kicks ass, and everyone should buy it.
Rating: Summary: just like age of whatever Review: This is the basic example of doing the same thing over and over with a game. There needs to be a change in these types pf games. I don't think its worth wasteing your money on.
Rating: Summary: Very good, but not Great Review: I almost gave this game a 3, but it really is FUN to play, so a 4 is in order. Just as with the original game, the story line and voice acting are outstanding. The new myth units, special abilities and the titans themselves are really great. And as with the original version, the graphics are astounding. However, two of the campaigns were really jumpy on my AMD 2800+ with 1.5 gigs of RAM. But more importantly, the whole expansion pack is too short. In "moderate" mode I was able to complete the entire series in a single evening (7 hours). For the price, I expected a bit more. Don't get me wrong, what was there was a really great game, but we didn't get a chance to re-visit Tartarus (perhaps a campaign to revive Chiron to help fight against the Titans) and we only got a chance to fight a few of the Titans. Unless they plan to release another expansion pack within the next few months, this one leaves you feeling empty. If you are a TRUE fan of AOM, then you have to get this expansion pack, but take my advice and start off playing it in the hardest mode. That way you won't finish it in a single night. And be sure to update it before you play. I forgot to do that and it locked up my computer.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST PC GAME OF THE YEAR! Review: And here I was thinking that it couldn't get any better. I mean, really, how could Age of Mythology possibly get any more interesting, exciting, addictive, and fun? Well, the long-awaited "Age of Mythology: The Titans" does just that. It is, simply put, AMAZING! Everything you loved about Age of Mythology is back, but this time it's all BIGGER and BETTER. The new culture, the Atlanteans, adds tons of new myth units, cultural attributes, god powers, maps, buildings, upgrades, characters, gods, heroes, and the deadly Titans which can overpower all other units if created and can be created by all cultures. You can even play around with time! The new graphics and music help to enhance game-play to a level not previously reached by Age of Mythology. Ensemble Studios have also polished basic aspects of the game. The new "repeat build" button will continue to supply you with units as long as long as you have the resources. If found this to be very helpful as I got to concentrate on other aspects of the game (such as destroying all enemies) instead of constantly commanding "create new unit" every time I lose one. The new campaign dwarfs that of Age of Mythology. It focuses primarily on the Titans and is so incredibly involving that you can easily play for six hours without noticing. The story is much better and the scenery and construction of the various landscapes is far more detailed and realistic. This is a 5 star game that isn't to be missed by fans of the original Age of Mythology or the Age of Empires games. It's all well worth your money, I assure you. Once you pop this CD into your disk drive you'll open the door to hours, days, weeks, months, years of exciting new game-play. Don't miss it.
Rating: Summary: A Very good, very addictive RTS game Review: As a long time player of the Age of Empires games I was a bit skeptical about the introduction of "mythological" - read magical - characters. But this added a dimension to the game that AOE veterans will appreciate. The story is fun although a bit corny. The best things about this game include: The graphics, they are great, a real step up, which I guess we'd all expect. The AI is a little smarter and less restrained than in the AOE series. When you play it on the hardest level you'll see it. The Myth Characters. They add another dimension to your economy. In battle they're cool to watch, although not all that more useful than "mortal" units. All in all MS has come up with a very good, very entertaining (time wasting) game.
