Rating: Summary: Is the Collectors Edition worth your money? Review: (First of all, this was a birthday gift from my husband, so I had no choice in the matter)This is a hard product to rate. The game is fantastic, though if you have a low end video card, the graphics are not as good as they could be. My husband has an excellent graphics card and it made such a difference in the feel and look of the game! I'm not going to give a review of gameplay - there'll be many of them. I just wanted to help others in deciding whether they should splurge on purchasing the collectors edition over the regular retail version. First everyone is saying they want those "large tech trees" included in this version. They are no where near large. They are very tiny things and the Age of Kings Tech trees were much bigger than these. If you want tech trees, you can view the .pdf files that come with the game. Check your read me file and you'll see where they are. I'm assuming that these files also come with the regular edition too. I am dissappointed that there is no handy list of what is good against what and what units you can counter with. I loved this with my Age of Kings game and I hate to flip through the manual for it this time around. With a lot of new units and different names for the units, it is going to take a while getting it all straightened out. The minotaur figurine - the box makes it look pretty cool looking from a grotesque/fantasy slant if that is what you like. I find the the minotaur looks much better in the game. Personally I find it an ugly looking thing and would have much rather had figures of the gods, especially Isis or rather the Pegasus scout unit as a figure. The minotaur figured on the box doesn't look like the actual one you get. It is a figure of cheap lightweight plastic and looks like something you could easily get from a McDonald's happy meal. Actually, I have seen better in a McDonald's happy meal! The paint details are a little different as well in terms of colour. The figure comes in a little plastic baggie, so already my ugly bull man has a flaccid double axe because of the small bag. He should have come in a plastic mold case at least to keep his shape properly. There is a large poster of the game with signatures of Ensemble Studios staff ... I have no place for this sort of poster in my home unfortunately. It is a large poster too. The mini posters of the gods are superb. They are good quality laminate poster board about 8x10 in size. I didn't really care for the gods though, except for Isis - I had to have her, since I've been looking ages for a beautiful print of her for my personal shrine. Of course you get your little manual and 2 cd case of the game itself. There is also a DVD of the making of AOM, which I can not use as I don't have a DVD player. There is also a CD AOM music soundtrack, which is lovely for providing atmosphere to your game, yet, there is already the same background music in the game itself. Here it really depends if you want to play that cd in another room besides where the one your computer is located. You also get a small paperback copy of Bulfinch's mythology book, which is a classic for anyone's library, though I didn't really need it to come with the game. I already have an old hardcover edition of Bulfinch's book and If I need extra information on a god or myth, the library or the internet is good enough and Bulfinch shouldn't be counted on as one's sole source on mythological education. The game itself is worth every penny, as well as the poster of Isis, and I do love the tech trees, but you can can get most of the essentials yourself without the extra goodies already provided for you. As a degree holder in Classical Studies and a gamer of Age of Empires Games and gamer of Zeus and Pharaoh and Caesar games, Age of Mythology is a dream come true. It is an incredible and addictive game. I just don't think the collectors edition is worth it, though it depends what you really want from it. There are only 5,000 copies of the collectors edition, which may influence your decision and there is a sticker on the box that tells you what number yours is out of the 5,000, plus a sticker certificate of authenticity on the box. Thing is with computer games, once it is open, the value would obviously decrease and I had a hard time, pulling that sucker out of the box, so unfortunately there is already a small rip on my box. Up to you.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding game that takes RTS to a new level Review: When Warcraft III came out, many hailed it as the new way of doing RTS games. After a month or so, reviews and emotions were mixed about the game, almost like it tried TOO hard to do something different. With AOM, Ensemble has taken an already great product (AOK) and has re-worked the whole thing, adding new mythical elements in an entirely new 3-D engine. The gameplay and feel is very similar to AOK, though it is no longer the same, boring, mundane isometric view you're used to. This game is fully 3-D, and you interact in your environment that way as well. With three civilizations to pick from, one might think that there is not much choice. But you can chose from 3 different gods within each tribe, each with their own power and bonuses they incur upon the player that uses them. Mythical units in this game are very powerful and can make short work of human units, but this doesn't mean they are invincible. Of course they will need protection and used correctly, you can wreck serious havoc with these units. The differences between the civilizations was a major bonus in this game. In AOK, the differences were cosmetic at best, the very same at worst (save one unique unit). AOM replaces that. While the tribes do share some things, the gods you choose to follow are what make the differences. Also, the way you gather resources, what resources are needed for various unit/structures (e.g. Egyptians don't use wood to build), and what units do these tasks various from each civilization. Make no bones about it: you will need to gather a lot of food and gold. But the subtle changes in how you do this from each civilization is what makes this game so engaging on that level. The AI is fantastic, as is the AI that governs your own units. Micromanagement is no longer needed as a #1 priority. I could go on, but I'm running out of space. This game is an outstanding, solid game that no RTS fan should be without. It will appeal to ANYONE who has even the slightest interest in RTS games. Believe the hype on this game: It is the real deal.
Rating: Summary: AOM Vs Warcraft III Review: Warcraft 3 is more about unit control. Every unit is important in Warcraft III while AOM is more about building large army and letting them loose. I'd say for the regular player AOM is easier, you develop, attack and have nice powers as bonus. While Warcraft III is a much more active game, where you have at the same to develop your hero, your city, all this at the same time. You can beat a large army in WarIII with for exemple only 2 level 6 heroes, while at AOM really mainly number counts. In WARIII all units are more specific and most of them have special powers. Of course your pop is limited to 90 while you have much larger army in AOM. Some of AOM powers are fun, though... Graphically both games are nice. But honestly I really feel more stressed, into the game and active during a WARIII game than with AOM... Both games are fun, and I would say that AOM is a better, easier to control initiation to strategy game for the newcomer, while Warcraft III is more for the advanced player....

Rating: Summary: Best strategy game Review: I am a big fan of the Age series and I just pre-ordered this game, I've rea a lot of reviews and downloaded lots of videos and screenshots and the trial version. This is the best game that I have ever seen. Although it is different from Age of Kings, all the features that i liked have stayed and even better features have come, like the graphics, which are amazing. To the gamer from football town ( the one that gave 1 star): how did you buy it and played it in October 24 if it was released November 1st?
Rating: Summary: one word = super Review: Super. This is the only word I can use to describe this super-duper game. For one the graphics are super! The sound is super! And the gameplay is super-duper! Words do not eplain how I feel about this game. It's just so good I almost [wet] my pants everytime I start to play. In conclusion, I like this game!
Rating: Summary: SImply the Best Review: The depth of game play, quality of graphics and AI in this game make it the most outstanding RTS. The rich array of units and the well balanced differences between races and gods makes the game extremely challenging and multiplayer games totally rock. This game will win over all the Age of Empires fans and create a heap more. definitely the game of the year.
