Summary: Age of Mythology: Best of Genre
Review: Having played many of the other "RTS" games out there, I can vouch for the streamlined gameplay and look of Age of Mythology. Streamlined is the keyword since nothing new was added to the RTS genre with this game. Everything in this game has been done before in games like Age of Kings, Total Annihilation Kingdoms, and Warcraft. However, Age of Mythology brings all of the traditional RTS elements together brilliantly.

The graphics engine is superb with a crisp, elaborate, and stable 3D engine. The soundtrack merits its own cd (which I believe they do sell). I was quite surprised at the amazing soundtrack after reading a couple of reviews on this website heavily criticizing it. I disagree with those thoughts completely.

The only thing lacking in this game is something lacking in almost all RTS games. It is perhaps an unfair criticism which is why I gave them five stars. I do not consider current RTS games to have a true strategic element to them. You are much better at "RTS" games if you have the quickest hand eye coordination. Those able to click all of their military into the correct spot the quickest are the most competent players. You can have a real-time element without the click-fest.

Summary: Finally!
Review: Ever since I first bought Age of Kings and The Conquerers, I had wished it had incorporated religion and magic beyond the basic monk and conversion. I must say, this game does fill the bill, the entire culture of any of the three civilizations is based on religion. This game is great if you've played its precursors. However, I recommend starting with AOE Kings with Conquerers expansion. Why? Because the controls are based on AOE, and hard to understand if you haven't played it. I also wish that the format hadn't changed, now everything is smaller, and all the buildings look basically the same. As a bonus, however, each culture is completely different in technology and appearance. About 4.5 all considered. Good gaming!

Summary: A great game, though nothing special.
Review: This is a wonderful game. The graphics are top of the line, and the gameplay is creative, challenging, and intuitive. Microsoft really had a great idea by letting you change your tech by worshipping different gods! However, that said, I must mention that the game itself is not incredibly different from Age of Empires II. But, if you liked that game, AOM is worth close to full price.

Graphics: 5/5 Great 3D engine here.
Story: 4/5 Creative, but annoying if you know the myth.
Controls: 5/5 Easy to learn
Gameplay: 4/5 Too much like Age of Empires II
Tech Tree: 5/5 Good for gamers and historians alike.

Overall: 4/5 Great game, if lacking originality.

Summary: Evaluation of the Collector's Edition, not the game itself.
Review: Age of Mythology (AoM) was highly anticipated by many Age of Empires (AoE) fans. When it came out, it really did satisfy many AoE fans. Like its competitor, Warcarft 3, it released a Collector's Edition with the regular version.

The Collector's Edition Box:
The box of the collector's edition is nice. It sports some nice art and the color is great. It's really attractive. However, its durability is low. When compared to the Neverwinter Nights and Warcraft 3 Collector's Edition box, the durability totally loses. Both those boxes have a thick cardboard. The AoM box does not. Compare it to a Diablo Battle Chest box and there you have the AoM Box. However for art, it wins against WC3 Col. Ed.

The Extras:

Soundtrack- the AoM soundtrack is superior to Warcrafts in my opinion. But I am just comparing the cd's. Against the other collector's editons, Icewind Dale 2, Neverwinter Nights, Warcraft 3, AoM's soundtrack tops all the others. It gives catchy tunes that are not all 0:50 long. I believe there are about 20 tracks if i remember correctly, compared to Icewind Dale 2's 40.

Making of DVD- though not as long and as interactive as the Warcraft Making of DVD, it actually shows the developers talking and you get to see them working on the actual game. For Warcraft, all you saw were the cut scenes, and a commentary and trailers of other Blizzard games. You actually get to see people working in this one.

Lithographs- The collector's edition that offers this is Icewind Dale 2 and Warcraft. The art on all 3 were excellent, and i believe that the IWD2 and the AoM ones were laminated.

Action Figure- only AoM Offered this. However i was offended to see that the paint job was poorly done and the axe in the minotar's hand was bent for me. The plastic is only so-so quality. With the price, they should have included a lead-free pewter enlarged miniature, like those used in D&D play.

Movie-Sized Poster- kinda funny, cause no other collector's edition featured this. It is a huge poster that has the names of the developers, but the game and the developer's names are put kinda like how movies and their director's are named on it.

The thing i saw missing was an artbook. But that was just about all.. make sure you like the game, cause the extras provide a more rich experience, like all collector's editons.

Summary: One the best RTS games ever!
Review: I really liked this game from the start. The graphics are very good, the cutscenes are well done, and the sound effects are great. You have many different major gods you can choose from and several minor gods also. Each god gives you a different god power (though you can only use it once) and a different myth unit you can create for battle. The single player campaign has over 30 missions and you play against or team up with as many computer players you want in the random map play (This very tough but has a lot of good battles). Some of the cool myth units they have are Cyclops (which pick up other units and throw them to the ground), Medusa's (which turn most units to stone), and my personal fav, the Fire Giant (who throws flaming fireballs). Some of the god powers are a Tornado (which does the most damage of any of the god powers) and Meteor (which has very cool explosions that send units flying through the air). With all of the units and god's available, you can replay over and over on different maps, and you have internet capabilities which I haven't tried yet.
Microsoft also has just released a free campaign that has 4 missions that you can download from the Age of Mythology website. And coming later this fall will be an expansion pack that will add more fun to an already fun game.

Summary: WOW..... addicting
Review: WOW! this is by far the best game i ever bought for the computer. the online play is great and this is one of those games that you can play over and over and never get sick of. the cultures are very distinct all with their strengths and weaknesses. Ensamble studios has done a great job balancing the civs. and putting out patches to improve the gameplay(if that is possible). well this is a great game and now it is at a great price so i hope you buy it and enjoy :) by the way... make sure that you have a fast computer. the graphics are amazing and i have a pentium 4 1.7ghz and sometimes it isnt fast enough..so ignore the system requirements and make sure that you have at least 1.2ghz computer before you by the game

Summary: Just a great RTS game
Review: I thought that this game kept true to many of the better aspects of RTS gaming, while still keeping it fresh with new ideas, creatures, and strategies. Just a great game, with great replay value.
