Rating: Summary: A Must BUY! Review: This game is far better than all the other "Tycoon" games. The graphics are good, you dont need a supercomputer to run it, and it is well worth the money! Build zoos in locations all over the world, filled with animals from Penguins to Giant Elephants! Best part: set your animals free (if you want to) and let them terrorize your park, destroying building and even attacking people (if you like that sort of thing). Plenty of scenarios to play and new animals and parks can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. Recommended to everyone, best and most fun game!
Rating: Summary: My 5 year old loves it Review: When we first purchased this game we told our 5 year old that this was an adult game and that he'd have to wait a few years before playing it. He watched us for awhile, got the hang of it and now creates a better zoo than his parents and he's not yet reading. It certainly helps to be able to read but much of it can be done without. Its great for learning about animals and their environments. We highly recommend this game as an alternative to [other gaming] trash. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Building a zoo can be boring aftter awhile Review: I was searching online looking for a sim type game and came across Zoo Tycoon. I couldn't wait to get it in the mail. Pros: great graphics, lots of animals to choose from and download, have there own unique sound, and you just don't put the animals in there you have to make sure their exhibit is suitable. Cons: Do get boring real fast esspecially having to build an exhibit for each animal time and time again. Don't have enough excitement. The only bad thing that can happen is an animal gets loose and the guests take off running. I don't even know if they even die if they get attack. Overall it is okay, and because I am a fan of sim type games I'll probably play it again down the line.
Rating: Summary: So fun!! Review: I loved this game, mostly because I love animals. It's really fun designing the perfect zoo, everything from the animals habitats to the ice cream stand. I had only three problems with it, 1)You can't speed up time. This can be annoying if you're doing a scenrio and you finish the objectives before your time is up. 2) I didn't think you could really zoom in enough. There were twi sttings, far away and really far away. It would have been better to get closer to the animals and people. 3)The zookeepers are really, really, stupid. You can assign a million of them to one exhibit, and the animal will still be starving in a filthy cage. These things are annoying, but not enough to ruin the game. I still recomend that you should buy it.
Rating: Summary: Very addictive!! Review: I was kind of leary to by this game considering it has the tycoon word in it. I was skeptical after having purchased roller coaster tycoon and all of it's expansion packs. I took the chance since I do love animals as much as roller coasters. The first thing I noticed with this game was the fact that it had better explanations on how to work the tools through tutorials unlike the roller coaster tycoon. In fact after a couple of the easy games I became so hooked that I found myself playing it for up to eight hours at a time on my days off. I also liked the feature of downloading different animals and park features off of the zoo tycoon website. The only thing that would make this game better is if they would add Meerkats!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: I *loved* Roller Coaster Tycoon, so when I saw Zoo Tycoon and read that they played similar, I couldn't wait to pick it up. I don't like it as much as I liked RCT though...it's RCT minus the fun of building the roller coasters, which I really enjoyed. I do like building the zoo, however. The animals are neat, the sounds and graphics are pretty good, and the interface was easy for me to use. I do miss some of the RCT features though, like controlling the prices of your food kiosks globally. The patrons of your zoo are much more varied and interesting than the "peeps" of RCT. Overall, a good fun game, but not quite as addicting as RCT was. I'm already getting a bit bored with it, and have had it only a month.
Rating: Summary: cool Review: This is a great game. If you have Zoo Tycoon get this great game. Here are some reasons. 1. Hide and show plants, guests and buildings. 2. New themes and attractions 3. Dinos, of course. This is great for the whole family. 100000000000000000000000000000000 thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Good but no sim. Review: I was looking to take a little break from my sims so I bought Zoo Tycoon and the expansion pack. The graphics are good but it lacks sound. Also don't bother going to main site for this game there is nothing new and by the looks of it nothing will be added. You want fun, sound and good graphics try the Sims or Roller Coaster Tycoon.
Rating: Summary: A middle-aged woman loves it! Review: Listen, I really don't care for most computer games. I don't like shoot-em-ups and blood and violence. Nor do I like games that depend on fast reaction times. When pressed to define what my perfect game would be, I always said "I just want to wander around and look at things and maybe create things. I don't want to destroy anything or mount invasions." Zoo Tycoon is the perfect game! It pretty much offers something for everyone. (I mean, if you WANT to, you CAN let the lions out on your unsuspecting crowd to satisfy your blood lust...) It is so easy to use that you don't have to read anything first. Nor do you have to research anything or spend massive amounts of time setting things up. You can just dive in and start playing right away. Helpful tutorials teach you everything you need to know, and simple scenarios get you started. Or, you can play the game in freeform mode, and just start designing your own zoo. Because you choose your own level, the game play can either be easy or devilishly challenging, as you choose. (What DO giraffes want to make them happy, anyway?!) In addition to the challenge of using preset scenarios that have deadlines and goals, you can also just noodle around. As you play, delightful surprises appear as time goes by. I've already spent several nights unaware of time flying by, finding to my surprise that hours have disappeared--suddenly it's 5 AM. And I have to get up at 6 to go to work! Ack! I think this is one of those games that will be satisfying for a long time, as the possible permutations of landscaping, attractions, and animals are infinite. I'm pretty much addicted. I went to the San Diego Zoo this weekend, and found myself redesigning the zoo in my head! I love it!
Rating: Summary: More then just added dinosaurs Review: I have played all of the simulation games and Roller Coaster Tycoon is by far my favorite. When Microsoft released Zoo Tycoon I was impressed by the fact they are the only ones to have come close to the Roller Coaster giant. Pros: Several of the features Zoo Tycoon was missing (in comparison to Roller Coaster Tycoon) have been added in this expansion. You can now toggle guests, foliage and buildings by hiding them to better view the land for further path and exhibit layouts. Expenditures are now charted. Added sorting feature now makes finding exhibits and animals easier to find. A research feature for new exhibit items and park updates was also added. Cons: Hard to please animals. It seems the animals in this game require A LOT of attention. Instead of building up your zoo, you spending a lot of time adding and removing things (repeatedly) because the animals never seem to be satisfied with their exhibit. The pandas were always the hardest to please and it seems all of the new dinosaurs are equally as finicky. Ugh! Notables: It's obvious Microsoft ripped off a lot of things from Roller Coaster Tycoon to create this game. Come on, the foliage is identical! I am inclined to believe Microsoft was attune to Roller Coaster Tycoon's popularity just as the other companies were. From a programming and marketing perspective, they dissected the game and determined how much could be replicated within a given timeframe. Once they came up with an idea for a simulation that had not been done in the past (ex: a zoo), the rest was merely adapted from Roller Coaster Tycoon. Hence, this explains why the only features Zoo Tycoon lacked compared to the popular Roller Coaster game made it into the release of this expansion. It was preplanned, they knew the market was going to accept it and was guaranteed to sell. Although I do not find this game as exciting or intense as Roller Coaster Tycoon, I remind myself, it's just a zoo! All in all, a good buy for what they offer.
