Summary: Not good enough
Review: Crashes regularly on Windows 2000. Does not have a module with the sounds of the alphabet, which makes it hard to get started. Overall, just lacks organization.

It will probably turn out to be a good supplement to another program, but by itself, is not enough to get started learning Russian.

Summary: It's nice but it's hard
Review: I bought this because I wanted to learn Russian because Alina Kabayeva and Alexei Namov are both russians. It's hard at fist but you get use to it if you take the recommrended 15mins aday. If you are going to give up on it don't even, but if you are serious take a chance on it.

Summary: Not A Listen 'N Learn, But a Great Course
Review: I bought this course because I needed to be able to read text as well as hold conversations.

The program has four basic parts to it with the main portion being fundamental Russian. The basic presentation is straight forward with text in Russian and English displayed with audio in Russian. There are also games and some nice multi-media in the other portions of the software.

The course builds up a fairly good vocabulary and the use of proper grammar is taught through out the Fundamental Russian portion of the course. There are many features which help you learn pronounciation such as the ability to record your voice and compare your wave, pitch loudness and fricatives to the native speakers', as well as listen to your pronouciation and the native speakers in alternating playback. It also provides a Speech correctness meter which give you some idea of how you are doing.

Some of the audio and diction isn't as clear as I would like, but perhaps that more closely approaches "real world" conditions.

This isn't a "listen and learn" but it is a very good time if you can spend some time in front of your PC each night. You should be able to speak Russian fairly well and as a valuable plus, read in Russian, up to the limits of your vocabulary.

Summary: The Cold War is Back, Comrade! Ah, the Good Old Days....
Review: I bought this neat item after struggling with rewinding and fast forwarding Russian language tapes for the last couple years. Needless to say, I didn't get very much past the conversational ability of a Russian infant. Even though I haven't had this product very long, I can't say much yet about the speech recognition and whatnot but I'm already making larger strides than I ever did with those tapes, let me tell you! Repeating words and sentences is a snap, all you have to do is doubleclick. Want them to speak slower? No problemo, my friend! They have that function in there too. This thing will definately save you from the nightmare of tapes. Before you know it, you'll be shouting Russian and beating your shoe against a podium at the United Nations with the best of them.

Summary: Great program! But frustrating at first,
Review: I got this for my 14th birthday, and for the first day, I was worried it waste of money, but I assure it's not. The best way to start (I think anyway) is to go to the fundamental, and go part one, part two, part three...It's long and slow, but if your as serious about learning Russian as I am, you'll get it. (Once the basics are learned, understanding it is a lot easier so later on when your trying to memorize things, it won't be so hard) But if your still not sure you want to learn Russian, don't bother buying it. Russian is hard! With a whole new alphabet. if you just want to learn a second language, go for Spanish or something.

Summary: The Best Russian Language System on the Market
Review: I have the complete system of Russian from Transparent Language, since they offer "A+" and a translation dictionary, too! The entire system is integrated, and while you are studying you can look up a word in the optional dictionary and it will pronounce it in Russian for you. "A+" is another additional system for this software, and it only adds to the value of the experience by giving you lessons in relative order, augmenting everything. I have done extensive repeat business with this company and they stand behind their product one hundred percent. If you have any problems with the software they will take care of it-but I never had any problems! Whenever I ordered optional software packages from them it arrived in a few days, and any problems I had installing were promptly handled by their tech people. I cannot recommend this system, in all languages, in addition to Russian, strongly enough. In the "Big Four" of Spanish, French, Italian and German, they offer an even more thorough system with a book; it gives you the equivalent of a year's study in the language. I speak Spanish, French, and now, Russian, in addition to my native English. Go with this system! I cannot praise it highly enough!

Summary: In Russian: "Ne Ochen Horosha!"
Review: I must say that I can't suggest this software if you are looking to supplement a regular Russian language course. I bought Learn Russian Now! thinking that its record/playback features would help me with my accent, and that the dictionary would help me translate readings for class. Unfortunately, it didn't have a dictionary that looked up Russian to English efficiently, so it was impossible to pick a word from a homework assignment and find its meaning/pronunciation--you can only look up/hear words in the programs dialogs. Also, the playback feature would say my accent was perfect at times that my (human) tutor would cringe. If you don't have access to a real life person, this may be the next best thing to teach you Russian. However, if you are trying to find something to help you out with a class, a regular old dictionary might be a better investment.

Summary: Very good program.
Review: This is a very good program to learn Russian in because it gives you the benifit of being able to instantly hear what you are looking at. Not only that but you get instant translations and full dialog on one screen. You can "bookmark" certain words, or write down thoughts that occur to you as you learn. It's a very good program and will help you learn quickly if you get into it. Learning a language is not 'easy', but it doesn't have to be the most difficult thing in the world either. This program is the best aid I've had in my studies of Russian so far.
