Summary: Good first experience with computers
Review: My 2 1/2 year old son loves this program. He started out having problems with his mouse skills, but soon mastered the interface. After a month, he has just about worn out this program.

My only reservations is that it runs on a 640x480 screen and does not automatically adjust the display when it starts (win98/SE). At the resolution I use on my computer, the screen is to small to see. It would be great if they had the program auto-adjust the screen resolution and mouse sensitivity.

Summary: Does not resize for screens larger than 640x480
Review: I installed this on my child's PC running Windows XP Professional with a 17" CRT set at 1152x864 pixels. The games and other features look more suitable for an elementary school age child than Mavis Beacon. However, unlike Mavis Beacon, Jumpstart Typing 2003 is not designed to rescale its window or change the resolution of the screen. So, what appears on the screen is a tiny 640x480 VGA-sized window with tiny and difficult to read characters. I manually resized (the graphics card in the PC doesn't have one of those status bar applets that let you resize quickly) the screen to 800x600 (it does not have an option to go to 640x480) to get the on-screen letters large enough for comfortable reading. My other complaint is that like many children's software, it asks to install Quicktime. I knew that the version I already had on the PC was the most current and elected not to install the CD-ROM supplied version. However, it does not check for a current version and warn that you may be installing an older version over your current installation. Were it not for the screen issue, I probably would have given this product a 3-star (maybe even a grudging 4-star) review. However, there is no excuse for the lack of screen size (or re-sizing) management in 2003.

Summary: Must be good!
Review: I haven't tried this one out yet, but I will go out on a limb here and say this is probably a good choice. Why? I purchased the original Jump Start Preschool for my 4 year old son and not only does he love it, it's really educational. It teaches memory, numbers, letters, etc. all in a fun way. I don't see how you could go wrong with this one.

Summary: JumpStart Spanish a winner
Review: My 5 year old loves her new JumpStart Spanish program. She has learned to count in spanish and her colors so far. Very fun games and rewards. She is really picking things up fast. We have not had any real computer problems, it has locked up once, but that has happened on other software as well. The sound works well. For the price I would recommend this as a beginning spanish program.

Summary: My daughter simply loves it!!!!
Review: My 2 year old loves this set of CDs. I found that it reinforces all the things we are teaching her.... shapes, colors, numbers the ABC. The duck that sings is very sweet to their ear. I found it sooo great I am buying it for my daughter's school so the other kids can benefit as well.

Review: I'm not smiling after purchasing this product. I love JumpStart's grade level products and have them all from toddler to 3rd grade! I'm afraid the method of teaching spelling on JumpStart Spelling Bee is poor and so where the results after trying it with my daugther. Her scores showed no improvement what-so-ever!

Summary: Great software for preschoolers who are learning english!
Review: I am a special education teacher for bilingual preschoolers who often have language and cognitive delays. This software allows me to start them off exclusively in Spanish and introduce English at a pace they are comfortable with. The fact they understand what is going on makes a big difference for them. I have also used this for my own son, as a way to help him reinforce his second language. I would highly recommend it for any preschooler.

Summary: Excessive Introduction
Review: My 5 year old daughter was eager and happy to get this software for Christmas, but we have only had a few short sessions with it so far, 4 weeks later. Once you start the Fundamentals session, there is a several minute introduction...ok, we have seen it. Once you finally get to the actual activities, they are rather mundane. Also, I think my daughter would prefer people to anthropomorphic animals. We are reading Go Dog Go the last few nights and loving it (OK, animals, but at least the challenge of reading is there and somehow holds her interest). I think books are better than software.

Summary: Not as good as i expected---dont waste your money
Review: I bought this for my 3yo daughter because i was impressed with the other jump start programs. I was very dispointed. She likes the older program--it has more activitys and teaches so much more. And it was only 9 bucks, compared to the $29 dollars i shelled out on this program. It comes with 3 cds-she only uses one. Disk 1 preschool fundamentals is great, but does not have many activities. As for the other ones- i cant install the language program on my CPU.(many other people have the same problem)and the art disk is a waste.
