Summary: A Really Good Game With Little Or No Violence
Review: This game is really, really good. The graphics are incredible, sending you through a range of completely realistic landscapes. The only problem with the graphics are that the people are semi-blurry. The plot is as good as ever, this time sending you to retrieve the link book to Releeshahn, after it is stolen by an angry teacher named Saavedro. He's almost positive that Atrus' sons destroyed his people, and he knows they trapped him in a tiny age for twenty years. So, after you link to a teaching world Atrus created for his sons, you must go through three Ages, finding the three symbols you need to access the link book to Narnaya, the age Saavedro is currently stuck in. My personal favorite Age is Edanna, the Nature Age, because of the really cool abundance of life, and also all the different ways you can use plants and animals. Once in Narnaya, you must open the ice shields that seal you and Saavedro in. there are plenty of ways you can get killed here, usually by Saavedro going beserk and hitting you with a hammer. That is the violence I mentioned in the title. However, if you do the level correctly, you get the book back, Saavedro gets to go search for his people, and Atrus congratulates you on doing the right thing... twice! This is a good game for you people who, like me, prefer strategy games to arcade-style "twitch" games, where reflex is everything. This game provides a set of exercises for your brain, and even an ethical dilemna at the end.

Review: No...no... This game....its not the same. The graphics quality is much worse. Much much worse. Its definetely not as clear as lets say riven. Remember they changed makers! Its presto now. (they made journeyman project) The game still is good but I just dont think it matches up with the original mysts. Dont listen to me though. Play it yourself and see. You might like it.

Summary: I'd love to play it - but it just doesn't run!
Review: I've had Myst III for over a month and have been unable to get it to run properly. My PC exceeds the requirements stated on the box. I have an AMD K6 3D 400 mghz processor, 160 mb ram, ATI XPERT 128 RAGE PRO video card and Sound Blaster LIVE! XGamer 5.1. All of this is far in excess of the requirements, and it still is not playable.

And I am not the only one. There are thousands of messages on forums across the internet complaining of similar problems. Half the reviews here on Amazon.com are negative for the same reasons. Tech support has been decidedly poor. It takes days to get a response saying they are working on the problem, oh and by-the-way you need to upgrade your system some more. Its ridiculous. Whats more, once you open up your software, the sellers won't take it back.

Summary: The Graphics and Images are Stunning
Review: The Game is Graphically Pleasing to the eyes. The problem is that you need a lot of RAM and A Good Video Acceleration Card to enjoy the scenes without that Jerky Feeling. If you have a great system with lots of RAM, Speed and a Good Video Card you will enjoy this Game.

Summary: Good...but
Review: Ok...this is an amazing game..but I'd like to say one thing. Please...if the game does not work on your computer...do not put 0 stars!!! You have not even played the game! You are bringing the game's rating down because either you are too poor to have a good computer system or your ignorance in the field of computers causes everything to mess up.

Summary: I uploaded the game for my son and got hooked on it.
Review: A nephew had the game and I uploaded it for my son who's in the Navy because he likes roleplaying games. I had got a look at the high graphics at my nephew's house and decided to check it out. Now I'm hooked on playing it. The graphics and sound are really good.

Summary: Almost There ...
Review: I suggest that any Myst fan play Exile. But, they must expect that the length of play and difficulty will be equal to one Riven island.

Why are the Myst games so compelling? Is it just the scenery? I personally play the Myst games because they are unique among all the other games. There is a freedom that exists in these games that does not exist in any others. Exile has this less so. It is not the scenery that draws me in, but the extent that the designers go through to create an alternative world. It is imagination wrapped in sight, sound, and motion that keep me playing. This game is very close but doesn't quite make it. PLEASE bring back the original group of great people to design and work on the next version.

Summary: If you can get it to work...you'll still be disappointed
Review: I bought this game after checking the other reviews. My computer is way above the game's specifications. I did check with the manufacturer who assured me it would run on Windows 2K. By the time my game arrived, they had changed their minds and are now saying it won't work with Windows 2K. With no help from them, I managed to get the game up and running smoothly, but I was expecting the same challenge as Myst and Riven and it's just not there. Sure, the graphics are spiffy, but the plot and puzzles aren't very challenging. It took me longer to get the game to run than it did to play it. There are two patches available, but more are needed to resolve problems others are still having so you might want to wait until everything is fixed or you may find yourself spending a fortune to upgrade your computer...or tossing the game.

Summary: Misleading Technical Requirements
Review: As a big fan of Myst and Riven, I was excited to buy this game. I would be more excited if I were actually able to play it. I found that the game crashed constantly. I have spent hour upon hour trying to get my system in perfect alignment with the planets as decreed by Ubisoft; I had no trouble installing and playing Myst and Riven. Though the technical requirements listed in the User's Guide clearly state that a 3D video card is optional, Ubisoft technical support, answering an email after two weeks rather than the promised 24 hours, told me that in order to play the game I would have to purchase a new 3D video card. Uh, no thanks. I just won't buy any more of your products.

Summary: A Visit to the Museum of Science
Review: Myst was fascinating and ground breaking. It contained everything that all other fantasy games, up to that time, lacked in realism. Riven was inspired and totally absorbing. You had to let yourself go and live in the world to figure out the puzzles (which is not a bad proposition.) Exile is like a visit to the Museum of Science. I had a lot of fun. Go into one room and do some very cool stuff, then leave and go into another room and do some cool stuff. Of course, all of the cool stuff is shown in a very simple presentation so that you can quickly understand them. But it is fun.

When playing the game you could tell that the same people did not create the game as created the others. It contains all of the drawbacks that all walk-around-and-figure-it-out games have. There is little freedom of going anywhere at any time. One example is in Myst after you ride the tram, you can ride back and forth as much as you want, because it is a fun ride. In Exile, once you ride in the field ball you can't ride in it again.

The puzzles are much easier in this game. My five year old daughter was able to point out important peices to the puzzle solutions, while my seven year old daughter was actually solving them on her own. With Riven, it took months to finish the game. With Exile it took 2 1/2 weeks.

It is a very fun game with stunning scenery. The technology of 360 degree viewing was breathtaking. The best of any game so far. My daughters had to keep the lights on when playing because it looked too real for them. My hats off to the engineers.

The story line is OK. We are expected to understand the plight of the main character after going through the long process of finding clues everywhere, but I was able to figure it out shortly after starting the game. My youngest daugher figured it out in the middle and came up with a solution - which was almost correct. In the end I was truely glad that we could help him out.

I suggest that any Myst fan play the game. But, they must expect that the length of play and difficulty will be equal to one Riven island. Also, the irratating things that exist in almost all other walk around games exist here. I personally play the Myst games because they are not like the other games. There is a freedom that exists in these games that does not exist in others. Exile has this less so. It is not the scenery that draws me in, but the extent that the developers go through to design an alternative world that is very real in sight, sound, and motion. This game is very close, but PLEASE bring back the original group of good people to design and work on the next version. (Now, where did I place my Riven DVD?)
