Summary: Myst Exile is second best
Review: The original Myst is still the best game, by far. In Myst III the first island, steam/waterwheel island and the ice ball island were all easy to navigate and contained logical puzzles to solve as well as the final island. The rotted tree island was terrible for me and no fun. It was very hard to navigate and I needed a walkthrough, not just hints, to solve and even after completing that island I did not understand the logic of what had to be done. Myst was the best and I have played it about every 3 years. Riven was the least enjoyable and Myst III is in between. PS: I see that some PC users had troubles. I had no serious problems using an Imac except sound breakup occasionally and a crash at the end when the bad guy goes away in his gondola.

Summary: They've done it again!
Review: Simply mind-blowing how they manage to get these games so involving. The MYST series is the only series of games where I might sit there looking at something for 15 or 20 minutes just thinking, "Why is this here? Was I supposed to find it? If I was, who wanted me to find it, and why?" I decided to go all the way on this one and purchase the collector's edition, which comes with the guide, (which I must admit I had to refer to on numerous occasions), the soundtrack (loved it), a 'the making of' documentary complete with all the trailers, and a squee pewter figure. It was a great deal because it was only 10 bucks more, it's a shame they don't sell it here on Amazon, but they only made 70,000 so I can understand. The 360 degree view is nearly flawlessly integrated, and of course the cinematic sequences at the end of each age are awesome. I think there are something like six endings, which is neat. But you win in only two of them, so be careful when Saavedro wants to make that deal with you... The idea of the symbols is cool, and the fact that you aren't really sure of what you're trying to do in each age until you've almost reached the end of it gives you that feeling of "So THAT'S what it all means!" every time you beat an age. The story is incredible, as it is in the previous two games. As for it not working, I never had any trouble at all. I've run it on an extreme-high end system (1.7 Ghz), and my friend has run it on a mid-range (700 Mhz), and neiter one of us has experienced any trouble. I recommend this game to anyone that likes to read books about either fantasy or mystery and wishes he/she could actually be there doing it, because that's what this game is all about. After I beat the game (It took nearly two weeks at two or three hours a day), I just went back through the whole game and stopped at each frame, step, slide, whatever you call it, and just looked around and admired everything there. I also saved before each of the cinematic sequences and at the endgame split, because I could just watch me being sealed in an ice ball and rolled around on some rickety tracks again and again and again (really). Buy the game. Period.

Summary: THE BEST GAME OF THE MYST TRILOGY!
Review: Exile has the best sounds, the best graphics, the best storyline than either Myst or Riven. Let's face it. Some of the Myst graphics were "tickertoy." Tickertoy but wonderful. The graphics were great in Riven. But the storyline and puzzles more or less covered the graphics. Tactic storyline telling for Myst. Strategy storyline telling for Myst. The graphics are better in Exile (I do have technical problems, but I switched over to software mode and I accept the darkness because of an out-of-date video card). The puzzles are much better than in Myst. To make it simple: The whole game connects in a beautiful and ecstatic symphony of delight (whew!). One problem. I have read the three Myst books. Unless you have, you may not know a few things. And Exile takes it for granted that you have read the Myst novels. Do you know where Dunny is? Do you know how to create an age? Do you know if an age is real or just created by the writer. The universe is infinite. What does this have to do with a book? Are people who have allegedly been created by the author of a book, such as Catherine, real? Read "Myst: The Book of Atrus" "Myst: The Book of Ti'ana", and the third book (It's hidden beneath all my other linking books and I'm not going to dig it up!). Also, buy "Myst III: Exile" in order to cheat. My brother is going to try Exile without cheating. I wish him luck. I wish you luck as well. And I hope that I have been helpful.

Summary: Avid Myst player: Good game, but sometimes a bit confusing..
Review: I am an avid Myst player. I beat both Myst and Riven in two weeks, playing on and off. Although I am not disappointed with Exile, I was kind of hoping it would be more... well, expansive. Riven and Myst seemed to have more sustanence than Exile. It's predecessors had more ages, more nooks and cranys to explore, and well... more detail. I was also a little disappointed there werent any book cases you could shuffle through if you were stuck and needed guidence, and sometimes clues were vauge and just plain confusing. In comparisson, I beat Exile in TWO days. Shouldn't the games be getting HARDER? Like I said before, Its a good game, just not exactly up to expectations. It would have been better to delay a release to improve the quality, than release a game that doesnt compare in stature to its predecessors. ~J.A.~

Summary: Maintaining their excellent standards.
Review: With everyone else raving about Exile's graphics and content I won't bother to repeat their obviously correct assessments, like Myst and Riven, Exile ROCKS!!!!

While buying Exile there was a note taped to it from UBI Soft stating the potential problems and how/where to get the patch to fix it. So far I have been playing the game without the patch and I have not run into a single snag or glitch. I use Windows ME, more than the minimum requirements and I couldn't be happier with Exile's performance.

Summary: AWESOME GAME!
Review: I have been a serious M/E/R/D fan since I was 8. Exile is awesome. The graphics are stunning, the music is good, and the puzzles take forever, just like Myst and Riven. The acting is decent, the storyline fits in good with the rest of the trilogy. The ages are beautiful. I especially like Amateria, the "Ball rolling" is so cool. It feels like you are actually doing it. The story is further proof of Sirrus and Achenar's umm... insanity. I only wish it was a little longer. Great, though. When are we going to see "Mudpie?" One question we must ask, though: Why did Cyan farm it out?

Summary: Myst Rides Again!
Review: At first, I was a bit put out by the fact that most of us required a patch from the Internet to fix something that should have been taken care of prior to freezing the code. I had noticed that this installment was not from the same publisher, so I had to wonder if it would be the as good. Well, once I FINALLY saw the new game, I thought "Cool!" This is a great sequel to the other two games. I highly recommend for any serious gamers collection. One word of advice: it requires BRAINS versus a good trigger finger. If your thing is more like Mortal Kombat, then this game is NOT for you.

Summary: Phenominal Support!!
Review: Hi,

When I first loaded this game I couldn't get past the title screen. I e-mailed support and had no luck getting it to work. Based on my negative review here on Amazon, Greg Uhler, one of the games producers, e-mailed me PERSONALLY to try to help.

As it turns out, I e-mailed all my information and he gave me a solution right away! Now the game runs great.

I cannot thank Greg enough for his personal help!

In case you would like to know what I did:

I manually set my monitor resolution to 640x480 and 32-bit color. That's all it took. BTW I have a voodoo2 12MB, so if you have had any troubles try this!

Rich Rossi

-----------Old---------- As many of you know, this game had some serious support problems. I was never able to get it to work even though my computer exceeds all the system requirements. I talked to support, and recieved an answer and a follow up answer...then nothing. ....Now I am stuck with a game that will not run on a computer that it is advertized to work on. .... You have been warned.

Summary: Gameplay second only to story
Review: The third installment in the Myst series is a masterpiece, that can weather the storm of all the media hype that some games drown in. The most notable advancement is the fact that you can look 360-degrees around every location, a great leap in graphics and it means that you will have to scour every screenshot in that much more detail to make sure that you aren't missing anything! The 360-view also ushers in the opportunity for videos (including ones of actual characters) to play and continue playing while you are looking around, regardless of what direction you are facing, eliminating the tacky cardboard-cutout look that was prevalent in Myst and most of Riven.

However, the compelling story behind the game is by far the best in the series of games and really shines in this installment. There is a lot more actual interaction with characters than in the other games, but only when it is needed, so as not to depart too much from the niche of solitude set previously in the series. It really is almost as fun to piece the story together as it is to play the game. Unfortunately, some gamers will get hung up on meticulous details such as missing a stairwell in a dark corner of the room, or not pulling a lever the exact right way to get it to work, but besides these minor shortcomings, the game lives up to all the hype and the standards that were set by it's predecessors.

Summary: It's not fun, 'cause it doesn't work!
Review: I am very disappointed in both UBI Soft ... for selling me a product that does not work. I have searched and searched the internet trying to find "keys" to get this program going, and while MicroSoft was very quick and helpful to tell me how to do some hard drive clean-up, UBI Soft was unresponsive, to me and others, as I found out by reading their responses on UBI's own site. Even with driver downloads and other such stuff, I cannot get the program to open up. Shame on all involved! A warning label should come with this program. My computer is new [6 mos.] and very fast with a large large hard drive. This is a sad state of affairs and sullies the reputation of the entire Myst genre.
