Summary: Using your brain is the fun part...
Review: OK, like everyone, I will say that the graphics in Exile are absolutely stunning. Also, I have to admit that I loved the 360 degree views.

The game itself was a wonderfully organized, though not at all obvious series of challenging puzzles to achieve an ultimate goal. I really think that the mental challenge involved in solving Exile was what made it exciting and worthwhile. I cannot imagine using a book and walkthroughs to complete this game. The fun is thought you put into solving the puzzles and the reward you receive with success. BTW, I wholeheartedly agree that the Amateria end is one of the best rewards in the game. I only wish it didn't end so quickly. I finished in about 1.5 weeks, working an average of 2 hours per night.

In all, this is the third Myst game, and an excellent one at that. However, everyone knows what they're like by now, so don't buy it if you aren't into mentally challenging and slow moving adventures. And please, try it without any (or at least very minimal) help, to get the full experience.

For those who haven't finished, enjoy the many endings, 2 successful (only 1 wholly successful), and at least 5 unsuccessful (though I hear there are 10 of these).

Review: When the kids are in bed, my wife and I stay up playing Myst. It's good wholesome entertainment with puzzles that will make you use the noodle.

Summary: Extremely Poor Quality & Disappointing Follow-up to Riven
Review: I loved Riven and Myst-I, but am very disappointed with Myst-III. The most siginificant problem is that it has so many bugs in it that it is difficult, if not impossible, to run the program. I'm still awaiting a release of the 3rd patch to the game so that I can get it to work properly. Given the care and attention that was taken with Riven, it is disppointing to see what Ubisoft has done (looks like the Microsoft quality control team has joined Ubisoft ...i.e., keep releasing software with bugs). This game was definitely released way too early...suggest you hold off your purchase until they release a working version or an accurate list of pc configurations that are compatible. If you do purchase this program, be sure that you have the most powerful PC available and that you have downloaded all the "patches" from the Ubisoft web site to correct some of the bugs...and then maybe it will work.

Summary: A truly enjoyable game with exceptional graphics!
Review: This latest game in the Myst series does what the others did: take computer fantasy gaming to the next technological level. With fantastic graphics and a 360 degree view of every mouse click, Exile recreates its imaginary places with precision and believability. The music is wonderful, the scenery compelling, and the puzzles as challenging as those in the previous two games. I will say that having played both Myst and Riven, I now know how to approach the enigmas of this game, which makes them seem easier than they are. People who haven't played Riven, for example, (or who played it long ago) may not recognize clues when they see them. For them, this will be a longer but no less enjoyable game.

At first, I found the 360 turns dizzying and confusing, but quickly got used to them. The individual worlds here seem smaller and less dependent than in previous games, but I accepted that as part of the superior graphics package. I appreciated the four CD format that doesn't require the constant disc changing of Riven. I experienced no bugs with my version, although I use a Mac, which might make a difference. Because the Windows and Mac systems use the same disks, however, I suspect the makers have since fixed many of the problems in their later productions.

Get this game. Like the others, this requires innovative approaches to problems instead of brute force. The puzzles are sufficiently complicated so a user can't solve them by random trying.

(For Mac OS X users, this is a Classic Environment game. Also, UBI Soft assumes you'll have a right mouse click option; circumvent it by using the shift key.)

Summary: Exile: Holy Cow
Review: Wow. The graphics on this game were absolutely stunning. Just incredible and jaw dropping.

However, the game left the factory in piss-poor condition. It is so chocked full of bugs and glitches that I am surprised that I was one of the lucky few able to complete the entire game without a crash or a lockup or it booting me to the desktop.

As with most sequels, most Myst-philes will probably enjoy the game, but a few will deride it to appear fasionable. "The puzzles aren't as hard as the original Myst, etc."

Summary: What an awesome game...
Review: Despite all of the complaints of people having problems installing and playing this game, I bought it for my sister on her birthday. We only had ONE minor problem during the installation process, which was quickly overridden, and then we started playing.
I seriously didn't think it was going to be as good as the other two Myst games.
Well, I was wrong. It's awesome! The graphics are better than any other game I've played, the music is WONDERFUL, and the story is great. Of course, being a Myst game, the puzzles tend to frusturate you now and then, but there's ALWAYS a way to solve them.
It wasn't as long a game as I hoped it would be, but it was worth it.
CAUTION: If you don't have patience and all you like is the shoot-em-up games, don't buy it. But for those of you who like to walk around and enjoy scenery (like my sister and I), GET IT NOW!

Summary: Good news/bad news
Review: As almost all other reviews have stated, graphically Myst3:Exile is stupendous. The look, feel and sound of the game is breathtaking. That's about where it ends, however. Assuming you can even get it to run (the software is VERY buggy & the stated system requirements are nowhere near accurate. .... it can get to be a bit tedious at times. The puzzles are certainly challenging, but many times are actually rather pointless; i.e.- solving many of them doesn't really advance your understanding or aid you in any way. More often than not, they're more like working the crossword puzzle in the back of those in-flight magazines; it gives you something to do, but won't make the plane go any faster. The biggest complaint, however, is still the massive software defects. There are so many bugs, and the stated system spec's are so completely off-base, you wonder if they simply slapped a price tag on the beta version and shipped it off. To date, I have added memory, installed new video & sound cards, and updated all the drivers, but still get only marginally acceptable performance. This, on a system that had met all the system requirements listed on the box to begin with. In concept I grade Myst3:Exile an 'A', but in execution I give it, at best, a "C-".

Summary: It lives up to Myst standards
Review: I was a little afraid when I heard there would be a Myst 3 game by a company other than Cyan. I bought it not thinking I would like it as much as the first two. I was wrong. Myst 3 Exile is a great game. Sound, graphics, story - it has it all. I definitely felt I was playing a Myst game. Not quite as good as Riven but still worthy of sharing the Myst name.

Summary: I wish I could play the game.
Review: I have been trying to load this game into my computer for the longest time, and I am not the only one who has problems with this game. If you go on the website under Myst III Exile you will see that there are other people like me who have experienced major problems with this game. I owe Myst and Riven and had no problems with these two games, but now unfortunately, I don't know what else to do in order to get any help from the makers of Myst. I can't say that this game is badly rated, only because I haven't had the pleasure to play it. Lynette
