Summary: JumpStart Study Helpers Spelling Bee
Review: For the price ... Knowledge Adventue should have a real "winner" here - suited for children in grades 1st-5th this program has a lot going for it - children get to ride a seahore and zap letters to make words - catch the correctly spelled word before it becomes food for a hungry crocodile and pop bubles and shoot space ships to form words and score high - the games are fast, all controled with the arrow keys and space bar on your computer keyboard - complete on screen instructions all the way -great music and sound - with 1700 pre-programmed words children are not going to run out of words for a long time - but the part of this program that is really going to put it far above the rest is the editing section - here you, as a mom or dad - or a teacher can put in your child's "real" weekly spelling words - the program will then break them down to be used just like the pre-programmed words - children enjoy playing games - learning spelling this way is a "heck" of a lot more fun then sitting at a desk and writing a word over, and over, and over again for twenty-five to fifty times until you had it memorized like I had to do when I went to school - please, buy this title for your children who will be in grades 1st-5th you will not be sorry and your children will thank you for all the fun - I am the Grandmother of 4 - two of my grandchildren are in school, one is a first grader and the other is in second grade - Grandma is well pleased to be able to give them such a fine piece of software to begain school with this year - Knowledge Adventure's Jump Start Study Helpers Spelling Bee is a real winner - to let you in on a little secret this old Grandma plays these games before I give them to my grandchildren - why - so that I will know what they are like - and be able to help my grandchildren if they run into problems. Buy it! Enjoy it! - for the small price tag you will NOT be sorry you did.

Summary: Educational, fun, and easy to use.
Review: Jumpstart Advanced Preschool is an excellent 3-disc set of softare for children 2-4 years old. Each disc consists of a series of games which are explained by, and feature, delightful animated characters that your children will adore. These games teach fundamental skills like counting, letter recognition, shape sorting, musical appreciation, and so on.

At the start of each set of games, an animal 'pet'(rabbit, cat, lizard, etc.)is selected. With the successful completion of each game, the player is given a reward (some food, a toy, a brush...) for the pet to eat or play with. Kids love this. They giggle as they watch the dog chew his snacks and smile, or the cat play with his flashlight. After 4 reward items are acquired, the player is then encouraged to find the pet a loving home (they take off in a hot-air balloon and fly over potential new homes).

It's amazing to see how this simple reward system can motivate a child! My 3 year old son has been using this software for the past month and he never gets tired of it. He's excited every time he wins a new reward. Parents can customize the level of difficulty for each subject area, so the games should never get too easy or too difficult. Keeping the games at the appropriate level ensures that your child never gets bored or frustrated.

I haven't experienced any of the problems that some other reviewers have complained about. The sound and visuals all work perfectly. What's more, this software is very user-friendly. My 3 year old doesn't even need my help with it. He just sits at the computer and starts playing on his own (but it's fun to play with him, so I'm usually right by his side).

One piece of advice: I strongly recommend that participants listen to the spoken instructions before playing each game. If you begin clicking your mouse before the instructions have finished, you will immediately jump to the game before you know what you're doing. But, even if this happens, don't worry. Just click the "back arrow" button, and the instructions will repeat. Other than that, this is as easy as 1..2..3.

Summary: Very disappointed
Review: I've bought this game for my 27 mo old girl.I'm very disappointed, especially compairing to Reader Rabbit's Toddler which we love(both of us). Some games are way too complicated for the age mentioned on the box(18mo-3yo).Some are plain boring. In disk#2 we can only hear the songs, but don't have any picture. Also, too many unnesessary, confusing details for a 2 yo.In short, isn't worth any penny.

Summary: Jumpstart Typing
Review: I wish to add to my review of Nov. 4: the letters are not only tiny, but also very difficult to distinguish due to the font used in the program. I don't believe it is possible to get around this, but if there is a way, please post it here!!
I noticed there are reviews here of many different Jumpstart software packages. For the record, let me state that my daughter used Jumpstart 2nd Grade (with the terrific frog and cricket characters) and 3rd Grade (with the delightful Botley and Polly) to keep up her English while attending school in Asia, and they worked like gangbusters. Thay were clever and fun ... the music was terrific ... (especially the 2nd grade Jumpstart, which could be played as a CD) even I enjoyed playing with them! We tried hard to get the same enjoyment out of Jumpstart Typing--it was just as clever in terms of content--but again, the letters are VERY tiny and difficult to distinguish--otherwise, I would probably give it four or five stars. Strange how the company could have allowed this to happen.
(By the way, between Jumpstart 2nd & 3rd grade, Reading Blaster, and Archie comic books (really), my child had no trouble reentering school in the United States after three years in in a foreign school with no English--she is now thriving! :-)

Summary: JumpStart Advanced 1st Grade
Review: Amazon does a disservice to JumpStart products by putting all of the reviews for JumpStart products under this product. The Advanced 1st Grade product is fun. My son, age 7, enjoys playing it. My daughter, age 5, isn't ready for it yet because it is a bit more difficult than the other games she has been playing. I would recommend this program for anyone who has a child at or near the 1st grade level.

Summary: Not so educational!
Review: I wish I could return this set. My daughter hasn't learned anything new from it. She's 2!

Summary: Jump Start 4TH GRADE ADVANCED
Review: I rented this software from the Library. It is a 3 disc program. My 3rd grader (almost 4th grader) loves the Ultimate Field Trips and Mystery Club volume 3. The fundamentals disc is a little too hard for her right now, so it is challenging. I played it because it looked fun and it was fun for me to play. I love the "mystery" tone of the software. I like these programs because there are fun games that do not get boring, and while your kids are playing the games, they are also learning a lot. I am going to purchase this software and the 3rd grade ADVANCED program so my child can review through the summer.

Summary: Jumpstart Advanced Toddler 2003
Review: I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday. He enjoys the 2nd cd because of the songs, but it should have more songs. We're sick of it already and he's only had it a week. The cd is not nearly as interesting as the Reader Rabbit Toddler software. It's something we'll use to reinforce his skills

Summary: Software is not great
Review: My daughter uses this software at pre-school and she enjoyed it, so we bought it for our home computer. Although she thinks it is fun, I really do not see that she is learning much Spanish from it (for that, try DORA) She enjoys the games more than the learning aspect of it. My problem with the software is that it always seems to malfunction. It "sticks" and every now & then the sound just does not work. My daughters teacher said they have the same problems with the software they use in her school. Based on that, I would only give this an average rating.
