Summary: Suse does it again!
Review: Still one of the easiest Linux installs on the market. Lots of Software for the price. KDE3 rocks, faster, more stable and much better than Windoz!

Summary: The best Linux distribution
Review: SuSE 8.0 is, in my opinion, an extremely easy to use Linux distribution and a real viable alternative to using Windows. It comes with tons of software and I was able to get it up and running on both my home-built PC and my Compaq laptop without any major issues. It even does little things like pre-installing java, realplayer, acrobat reader -- even Windows doesn't do that! It correctly identified and configured my HP deskjet printer, my nvidia video card, my Kodak digital camera, my cable modem, and all my other hardware. If you get stuck, the number of helpful resources out there is tremendous and you will find really nice people willing to help you along the way. SuSE 8.0 is really not that expensive when you think about it (compare it to a Windows "upgrade" price which is more than 2x the cost of SuSE). When installing, you can have it dual-boot with your pre-existing Windows installation so you can continue to use Windows as you learn Linux. Combine SuSE 8.0 with the *AWESOME* new Star Office 6.0 and you can do just about anything in Linux that you would otherwise do in Windows. Besides, it's really all about the freedom to choose. Oh, and one more thing: I got a 60% increase in my video card framerates when playing Quake III in Linux than I got in Windows. Wow! Anyway, give it a spin -- worst case scenario, you're out a few bucks and you can always remove it from your hard drive. Best case scenario, you'll enter a new world where you get to choose what goes on your computer and where operating systems don't cost 1/2 the value of your hardware.

Summary: Not quite ready yet....
Review: Suse is one of the fastest growing distros and with this release, it sports some of the latest features that the linux community is looking for--but it comes with a price: it still has some bugs.For instance, Suse shipped its 8.0 release without adequate support for pcmcia cards which has caused crashes on start ups. Also, the system seemed to hang (at least in KDE) when I installed it on my machine. Some services, which were configured automatically with Red Hat 7.3 , had to be started manually under Suse 8.0. Just another example of the little things not being done right. A good point: the aesthetic aspect of the 8.0 release is nothing to be sneezed at. With the choice of background images combined with the look of KDE 3.0, the look is every bit as slick as Mac or Windows on their best days. I also believe that Suse 8.0 marks the beginning of the end of Windows' dominance on the desktop. A big statement, I know. Foolhardy? Not at all. If Suse gets its act together and fixes the bugs and some of the interface glitches, it could become one of the top distros along with Red Hat and Mandrake, and be poised to go after the desktop with features out of the box that Mac and Windows users could only dream of (or pay additional $$$ for). All in all, if you are thinking of purchasing this product and can wait until the 8.1 release (when the bugs will no doubt be fixed) then wait; otherwise, if you get the 8.0 version be sure and get Suse Office Professional on sale at Suse's web site. Reasonably priced, Suse Office Professional includes bug fixes for 8.0 as well as Star Office 6. Three stars for right now...hopefully, the product improves in the mean time.

Summary: Ease of Installation will make some folks at Remond envy
Review: The coolest thing about Suse 8.0 is its YaST installer. Whether u r doing a dual boot install or a only SuSE install, this new version of the installer is awesome. If you are a new user the 3 click installation is for you, and if you are power user u can customize the installation to ur hearts content. I have installed SuSE 8.0 on 3 PCs and a Notebook. All thses systems have quite varid hardware configs. And I can say this that SuSE 8 has very impressive hardware support. Almost all the hardware was auto detected at installation. SuSE 8.0 is my de facto OS both at work and at home. At home I upgraded from SuSE 7.3 and at work I installed it over Mdk 8.2. Installation was easy, now let move on to user experience. SuSe 8.0 comes with Kde 3.0, it has a lot of fancy apps and a lot of nice eye candy ( with nice anti-aliases fonts). Even Gnome 1.4 in Suse 8.0 is really pretty to look at and most apps are stable. I use the Pro edition. The sheer number of apps bundled with it, takes care of all my need. I use Open Office for editing documets ( at work every one else uses MS Office, for me Open Office is a real boon). Mozilla and Opera for browsing. Gaim for chatting with my friends on Yahoo, MSN, ICQ.... I use Evolution for accessing the MS Exchange server at work for my mails. I use samba for sharing and mounting shared dirs with my collegues using NT systems. There are also plenty of games bundled with it. Coming to stability. I have my desktop at work running Suse 8.0 since the end of April without a single crash or any downtime. I did have some problems with my desktop at home, my 5.1 channel sound card was not playing the rear channels. Fortunately I had it fixed in an hour or so. Configs of my desktop at home: Athlon 1.1G, 512MB SDRAM, SB Live 5.1 sound card, RLT 8139 Ethernet Card, Geforce 3 video card. The desktop at office is a DELL Optiplex Gx110, my laptop is a Compaq Presario 702US. Personally I'd highly recomend SuSE 8.0.

Summary: The Most Complete Package
Review: The SuSE Linux Professional package is probably the largest distribution available. A full install will take about 10GB of disk space. It is also very easy with the YAST installer. Of course you don't have to put the whole thing into your system, and SuSE provides users with several default options between minimum requirements and full install. That said, the strength of this distribution is in scientific applications and programming languages. Entertainment and office productivity suites still lag Windows and Apple. But despite the size of the SuSE distribution, I had to download additional software from the Internet, which really goes to show the great quantity of programs available for Linux. For the right user (i.e. programmer, scientist, hobbiest), Linux can't be beaten, and SuSE is the most complete distro.

Summary: Best Linux yet
Review: The YAST setup utility makes this Linux a breeze to set up and configure. The auto update feature means you've always got the latest security patch. I've tried almost all of the Linux versions out there and this one is by far the best, it found and installed all my hardware without a hitch and contains every application you could need, a keeper. Bye bye Bill...

Review: This is without a doubt the easiest installation I have ever done. Not only have I installed everything I wanted including new programs, but I have updated everything to the latest patches on the SUSE web site. Everything went without a hitch. I love it!
