Summary: PC is now crashed thanks to Linux
Review: My PC has now crashed trying to install this horrible software. All of my information on my hard-drive (Windows) side is now unavailable, plus when I try to boot my machine it crashes with a kernel panic. Anyone who gives this 5 stars, PLEASE do not fall for their review. If you want to lose all information and have a PC that is trashed then this is for you.

Now I understand why no one in their right mind uses this horrible, unstable mess.

Summary: Excelent OS
Review: Regardless of what some "one star" guys say about SuSE 9.0, IT IS an excelent OS! To those who expect to see 100% hardware compatibility (CD burners, etc.) and claim that they will go with Microsoft XP, I will tell this: There is hardware incompatibility even in the MS world! This is true also for CD burners. And BTW this is usually the hardware manifacturer who writes those drivers, so think about this before you blame SuSE. Also, it has been Microsoft policy for many years to push those manifacturers to write device drivers exclusivelly for MS Windows because of the market dominance/monopoly they(MS) pursued.
In addition - everyone can go to www.SuSE.com and there is a database of supported hardware, so one can check it to make sure their own PC hardware is supported.

Summary: Correction to review below
Review: One of the reviewers wrote:
"Very disappointed, no multi-media support. If you want that, then don't buy this. Cd burning, well no drivers for this function either, so I guess that is just placed in the pc for looks."

One CAN copy CDs with SuSE as it is shipped, but one cannot rip MP3s. There is a reason for this: MP3 is a PROPRIETARY format, while Linux is OPEN-SOURCE. The providers of open-source software for dealing with it have largely been shut down. It would not be wise for SuSE to include it.

You can however piece together perfectly workable multimedia solutions (even using MP3); it just takes a bit more research and a willingness to understand the basics of this OS. There are even superior solutions to MP3. Hint: Think OGG VORBIS.

Summary: Excellent OS but remember is not easy as XP!!!
Review: I love Linux and I love Suse.
I've read some other reviews where they say that no multimedia or cdburning support is provided:FALSE!!! There is everything and much more.
But be careful! If you are a "regular" XP user and you do not know and you do not care how really a computer works, then keep your XP.
But if you want to be more than that...start from Suse.

Summary: CD burning/Multi-media
Review: Very disappointed, no multi-media support. If you want that, then don't buy this. Cd burning, well no drivers for this function either, so I guess that is just placed in the pc for looks. No wonder that previous write said perfect for geeks, because this operating system will be quickly removed off my hard-drive and replaced with one that can play multi-media and use my CD-burner and it is called Windows XP.

I think my childs diaper had more functionality than this did. Save your money and just use Windows!

Summary: Beware of 5 star reviews
Review: The problem with this product is the hardware compatibility, if it does not detect it, therefore it does not exist. Drivers, they must be invisible because paying money for a operating system it should work. Screen resolution, configuring this will require you to devout your life to your pc. If you like to buy a used car and proceed to rebuild it with a blindfold on then this is for you. I think now I have some expensive coasters for my drinks.

Summary: First-rate in every respect.
Review: SuSE 9.0 installed easily, even on my Dell Latitude (laptop), has all the functionality that I want or need as a programmer and a general user of computers, is extremely stable, and, with a little experience, easy and fun to maintain. I do *not* have a dual boot, and I couldn't be more pleased with an operating system than I am with SuSE 9.0!

Summary: SuSE 9.0 Rocks!
Review: I test installed SuSE 9.0 on a bank of Intel PCs that would not play kindly with any previous Linux distro, and to my surprise SuSE 9.0 installed cleanly AND recognized all the hardware without need for any intervention.

I write documentation for Samba and Linux in DocBook XML/XSLT - SuSE 9.0 is the first Linux distribution that has everything I need ready configured to produce PDF formatted files that can go directly to the printing press. The cost savings and the flexibility provided by SuSE 9.0 is amazing.

SuSE 9.0 is a must!

Summary: No value to any user
Review: First off let me explain, I have heard how interesting linux is. One would think that is it has some use in the world of computers. But it has NO functionality other than the ability to change themes and icons on the desktop. Good grief, who cares about this kind of non-sense. I need to use business applications not some useless NON-supported freeware apps.

To sum it up, my installtion of this product was very disappointing. The user interface dates back 5 years, there is a selection of useless applications, that CRASH often! No one seems to bring this up, plus it takes up like 5 gigs on the hard drive! What a bunch of useless BLOATWARE! So I tried it and wished I would have left well enough alone.

Lastly, when it comes time to get your real work done. Buy Windows XP Professional and you will be extremely pleased!

Summary: SuSE 9 Pro renderes all other distros obsolete. 6 Stars.
Review: This distro of Linux is amazing, and is by far the best yet. I have gove through SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.2 and now 9.

... this package comes with 5 CD's of software, as well as being on 2 DVD's as well, and has incredible hardware detection (by far the best in the entire Linux world).

This version of SuSE Linux boasts far better device driver detection that previous versions, including the previously anti-Linux, piece-o-crap WinModems. The folks at SuSE are that good. Plus, this software, through Amazon, only costs about $65 for the PROFESSIONAL version, compated to M$ WinXP's whopping $300 for the Pro version that does less, is less configurable, crashes more, has more bugs, requires endless fixes and service packs, and is nothing short of a hopeless "virus magnet" with no hope in sight as to any form of solution that Microsoft obviously couldn't care less about. How many security holes does one need to find in a operating system? How many service packs? How many viruses?

Windows logs onto the Internet. Linux IS the Internet. And Windows is only trying to catch up to Linux anyway. Anyone taken a look at Windows 2000/XP's Active Directory system? It's just a rip off of the Linux/UNIX DNS system. Hey Bill - who's your daddy? Say "Uncle", Bill. C'mon - say it.

SuSE makes the best Linux there is. And since Novell just bought out SuSE, Linux now has a flagship company that's dead serious about networking operating systems. "Novell Netware" ring a bell? The one reviewer that complained about SuSE being bought up by a big corporation - so what? Everything you eat, sleep on, drive, wear and live in were all brought to you by BIG CORPORATIONS. Does Novell make Linux evil? What would you say to the fact that Novell owns UNIX in the first place? (They do, actually - hear that, SCO?).

Get SuSE Linux 9 and have the best Linux distro (best operating system distro period) on the planet. And just for laughs, load it up with VMware so you can use Windows XP as a screen saver.
