What's more, a great deal of care is taken to distinguish between facts that are canon--that is, explicitly detailed in the series or films--and those that have merely been extrapolated from evidence provided in those shows. With thousands of video clips, photos, technical schematics, and articles, this program has everything a user might need in order to become a certified Star Trek expert. With such a huge volume of information to cover, it's no wonder that the Star Trek Encyclopedia is not absolutely unabridged. The program doesn't cover Star Trek's animated series, which is a shame, nor does it provide a list of the many tie-in novels associated with the Trek franchise. The interface for the program is frustratingly nonintuitive, though its official Starfleet look is appealing. Even with these few gaps, the vast amount of data that is included makes this a resource that no true fan of Star Trek should be without. --Alyx Dellamonica
