Summary: Not Impressed!
Review: Having used version 5 Platinum, I was filled with joy to see the release of version 6. I probably should have saved my enthusiasm. Although I haven't experienced any of the problems that I've read about here as far as Windows XP goes, it runs flawlessly on my XP system and I'm using it on a laptop. My issues are simpler. I just don't care for the way it works. Photosuite is worthless, Audio Central is ok, but you can't apply any effects (and there are several)such as the equalizer or any of the others unless you create playlists. If you want to listen to a few songs from your "library", you can't apply the EQ without first creating a playlist. DUMB!!!! I still haven't found an audio application that I like better than Musicmatch.

I could go on, but if you don't have a real need to burn DVD's and you have version 5, stay there. I haven't decided whether or not I'm keeping this. Fortunately I bought it at Costco, so I have their liberal return policy on my side.

Summary: This isn't brain surgery...
Review: I've read all the on-line reviews at Amazon, hesitated, waited, obfuscated... and finally took the plunge and bought ECDC6. Anyone who's used any previous version of ECDC shouldn't have any problem using this program. Once I ACTUALLY SAT DOWN AND READ THE MANUAL, I found that the program had an easy, intuitive interface, lots of functionality that earlier versions lacked... and, yes Virginia, it DOES run on Windows XP. (My computer is running XP Pro on a 2.4gHz P4, 512MB RAM and two hard drives totalling 240GB)

The only reasons I don't give it 5 stars (actually, I'm giving 4 1/2) are as follows:

1) After I upgraded from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional, I had to remove ECDC6 and then re-install it (Windows XP told me to do this).

2) The functionality of the old Spin Doctor is lost. I should be able to remove crackles and pops from files recorded from a record, then re-save them. Can anyone suggest to me how to do this?

Otherwise, I have yet to encounter any of the problems mentioned by folks in previous reviews. ECDC6 is running just fine for me.

Summary: The Product Is Fine; But Lie When Registering
Review: I never had any problems with version 5, and haven't had any with version 6 yet. It's a well-rounded and easy-to-use product, although I didn't install Photosuite as I already have the much more comprehensive Photoshop Elements 2.0 for that.
The only really annoying aspect of this software is the fact that it forces you to register if you want to update the product. I usually register software anyway, but I do NOT like being forced to do so. Making it even worse, I had already registered with version 5, but there is no way to "log in" during the registration process. However, my logon ID from the prior registration is still active, and this registration would not let me re-register with that logon ID. In other words, it would force me to make up a second logon ID--how stupid are the programmers at Roxio? I decided to make up everything on the registration form, which worked fine and allowed me to download the product updates. Interestingly, the registration process does not allow you to have a logon ID with the characters "roxi" in it...
Conclusion: I recommend this product, maybe even highly, although it may not be a necessary upgrade for many current users of version 5 Platinum. But I also highly recommend that you make up EVERYTHING on your registration process, even if like me you normally don't have a problem registering software.

Summary: A Weak Product
Review: If you own Easy Creator 5, I can't think of any good reason to purchase this product. The only thing it does well is burn data and files to CD's, and EC-5 does that equally well. The Photosuite section is one of the most exasperating pieces of software I've ever tried to use - and it deletes EC-5's ability to archive pictures along with a self-running exe player that provides both shortage and self-running slide show capabilities (with music) on one CD. If you need a photo album and picture editor program, first look at what came with your digital camera, possibly augmented by one of the cheaper Adobe editing products, or purchase Jasc After Shot or it's latest incarnation. If you need DVD/Video capture or editing software, buy Sonic's MYDVD Video Suite - It's significantly simpler and more flexible to use, and produces DVD's with better playing characteristics. The Audio capture/playing/editing features seem only different, not better than EC-5, and maybe not as good. The Drag-to Disk feature is back - but I've never found that feature to be worth the effort to use it, with any CD/DVD burning program. And lastly, the basic operation of the program seems even more quirky than EC-5, and counter-intuitive to every other piece of software you likely own. Bottom line, I installed it, tried it, deleted it, and reinstalled the elements of EC-5 I use. Was a total waste of $...

Summary: 1038 registry errors
Review: Had basic 5 version, which gave me problems. Tried to upgrade, blew the hard drive. Norton said 1038 Registy errors. Talked with computer shop, found that the errors "not unusual".

Summary: Roxio Label Maker
Review: ECD has a great label maker, but for everything else I use Nero.

Summary: Easy, but still some missing features
Review: This is a great product and worth your money. Though it has a few problems.
1. In Audio Central-it makes to many duplicates of audio when changing the kbps or when retriving it from other media software. You can delete it, but it takes forever.
2. Make sure you send in [any] rebate immediatly...
3. DVD Creator needs more features but still is 5 stars for ease of use.
Overall, i recommend this product for household media-not steven spielberg films...

Summary: Crashed my computer
Review: When I installed it, it asked to be rebooted. When it rebooted it knocked out my computer would not reboot. I had to do a system restore but it rebooted into minimum resolution and 16 colors. Trying to change the display settings to a higher resolution and more colors was unsuccessful. Technical support for my video card could not find a solution. Reinstalling Windows did not solve the proproblem. It looks like I will have to do a clean install and reinstall over a 100 applications. When I installed Easy Creator I had no programs running in the background so that was not the problem.

Easy Creator has always given me some problems. It is a tempermental program to begin with. I had hoped that Roxio would have solved these problems in the most recent version but it looks like Roxio only made the problems worse.

Summary: Easy CD Creator Trouble Free
Review: I have installed this software version on a minimum of four desktop and one laptop running Windows XP Home Edition and one desktop running Windows 98. Three I did the install directly over a previous version of Roxio's product, the other three were clean installs. I have experienced absolutely no problems. My main use is for writing CDs. It does that with no problem.
Don't purchase it with unrealistic expectations. It cannot circumvent copy protection of DVDs and if that is your expectation, you will be disappointed. I have made music CDs from it and they work beautifully. It automatically can determine the speed for recording. That is a definite improvement of previous versions where it would ruin many cds until you figured out there was a problem with the record speed.

Summary: A Cinch to Install -- A Pleasure To Use
Review: I had finished reading all the reviews on this site, then was wondering whether or not to make the purchase. After careful consideration, I decided to heed the advice of several reviewers, i.e., completely uninstall all previous versions of the CD Creator software, carefully read the manual, things like that. After having done all this, I bought the version 6 and the install went smoothly. I have not had time to fully emplore all the features, but the interface is great, and hopefully I'll get a lot out of it. Thanks, Roxio, and thanks to all the other reviewers out there for your help and suggestions. I am running WinXP on a HP Pavilion 8760C with 256MB SDRAM.
