Rating: Summary: Worst computer program I ever bought Review: I had a early version of 3D Home Architect that worked great. I bought a new computer, and for some reason it didn't think I had enough space on my hard drive (although I had way more than I did with my old computer). I bought this new version of 3d Home Architect, and realize I totally wasted my money. The manual might as well have been written in Swahili. Do youself a favor, and buy something else.
Rating: Summary: Simply eye-popping! Review: I have never used previous versions of this software, so I can't comment on the upgrade issues mentioned here, but ten minutes after I started using this software, I had walls, doors, windows and a roof. When my nine year old saw the result, she started drawing plans for a Barbie house! I have encountered a glitch or two, but for the money, this package rocks!
Rating: Summary: An annoying usless work tool Review: My parents bought this game at staples, and they HATED it. The other version was good, you could walk through the home, and the format was good, but now this version is completly usless! The layout of the thing was usless, hard to find things, not enough stuff.... If you wanted to build a wall, you could never hit it right on the dot! it was impossible to get a perfect wall! i couldn't find where the baths were at all, the help was VERY confusing, and the roof was very hard to build. This product shouldn't exist, because i think no one has evey been happy with it.
Rating: Summary: "Upgrade?" - NOT Review: When Broderbund, the distributor of the 3D home series moved to Version 5.0, they also switched authors of the software. This program is completely different than all previous versions AND incompatible. It is harder to use as well. Stick with 4.0, or better yet, upgrade to the home version of Chief Architect, which is the compatible upgrade to all previous 3D Home Architect products.
Rating: Summary: Can't import plans from previous versions Review: I've been using 3D Home Architect version 4 successfully and have been pretty happy with it. I decided to upgrade to version 5 but was very dissapointed to find out that you can't import plans from version 4 into version 5. That's ridiculous! After reading some of the other reviews I plan on returning this product.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this! Review: This program has caused me more frustration than any program I've ever owned. The program crashes and irretrievably corrupts my designs. I am honestly in disbelief that any legitimate software concern would have the audacity to release a program with so many problems. A great attempt at some cool features is ruined by it's destructively buggy nature.
Rating: Summary: Don't Buy Review: If you don't have version 4.0, go buy it, do not buy this program. I did before I seen these other reviews. It is not the same program as older versions of 3D Home Architect and it is very hard to learn. The learning curve is not worth it even if your able to get it. Stay with 4.0
Rating: Summary: Stick with version 4! Review: This version is awful! It is clunky, lacks many of the features of version 4 and is slow to learn. There are fewer furniture/fixture items and the graphics are worse. I hope they don't do this again or I'll have to stick with version 4 forever. If you are looking for a good home design program try 3D Home Architect Deluxe 4.0. It is great and easy to learn.
Rating: Summary: It's really Version 1.0 not 5.0 Review: Several years ago, my brother bought me 3D Home Architect version 1.x. It was a great little program and I used it to design all the floor plans of the house I'm living in now. I bought 3D HAD 5.0 for a basement refininishing project, thinking it would be the same high quality program as it's predecesor. Boy was I wrong. First of all, 3D HAD 5.0 isn't even a new release of the older 3D HA releases. It's a completely new program written by some other outfit (not the one that wrote the original). In other words, it's a version 1.0 program, not a version 5 of the original 3D HA. Within hours of using 3D HAD 5.0, the program started crashing on me. Initially I thought it was something I was doing wrong so I kept rebooting my computer and trying again. It eventually got to a point where it would crash no matter what I did. This is the worst software I have ever come across. One thing is for sure...it never passed through QA because if it had, the product would never have made it out their door. I returned the software to Bruderbund who refunded my purchase price in a timely manner. However, I never got back the tax I paid on it and I also lost out on the shipping. I'm surprised that a company like Bruderbund would even put out a product like this one. But then again, this is the same company that installed a "spy" program on my computer without my knowledge several years ago when I bought and installed their Geneology program. BTW, after uninstalling 3D HA 5.0, I installed the old 3D HA 1.x and it still works like a champ on my Windows 2000 Pro computer. It looks a little archaic (it was written for Windows 3.1 and 95) but it still runs great, never crashes and more importantly, I now have my basement floor plan for my project!
Rating: Summary: Bad, bad upgrade. Review: This version (done by a different developer) is counter intuitive, buggy and missing many of the most important features of the previous versions. STAY AWAY! I bought the "professional" version, spent many hours trying to learn how to use it and found it to be a complete waste of money. If you can find it in a store Version 4 is a great buy. Broderbund has made a huge mistake with this one.
