Summary: Wonderful money-saving product!!
Review: I've had a Skip Doctor for about a year and a half and have mangaged to save about 15 unusable CDs and eight or ten DVDs. In fact I've bought a few DVDs for a bargain on eBay that the seller said was damaged and managed to make them perfectly playable!!

The key is following the directions and take your time. Make sure you keep the disc very wet during the process and polish it out with the white cloth. Another thing I've found that helps is after you've repaired a few discs the abrasive wheel becomes less abrasive as it gets barely clogged with the material it rubs off the discs. Keep that wheel clean and the device will work flawlessly. The people that say it ruined their discs were either not keeping the disc wet or probably not patient enough to use this - I have spent as much as 20 minutes going over and over the disc until it's fixed and it has never caused one of my discs to become worse after using it.

It is a great product, but it does require the user to read the directions and be patient to make it work properly.

Summary: It's a great product in my book
Review: NOw, I've not used it on many CD's, the two that I used were CD-R disks and one has several major scratches and on one try, I got it to play much better, but it needs another pass or two to get it working perfectly. The first one was done perfectly after going it one direction, and then the other as directed in the instructions.

The key is to keep the disc moist while cranking, which means respraying as necessary. I grant you it's not always easy to see where you began when you reverse direction. I have the manual version and I don't think it took me 25 minutes to do one CD. It may not be perfect, but according to the box, it will do virtually any 3.5 inch disc, be it CD, DVD, CD-ROM - whatever. In any event, I find it a pretty good product. I've not used it on DVD's as all my DVD's are in great shape.

If you take reasonable care of your CD/DVD etc collection, the need for this product is not as great, but like alot of things, if the CD is used outside the home, in the car w/ a single disc player or what have you, chances are it will get scratches, and some enough to cause mistracking. Having this product handy should restore the majority of the skipping discs.

Summary: Hit-and-miss with this one, and missing can be expensive.
Review: I read all the warnings and advice in these reviews and was careful to follow the directions exactly. SkipDoctor still did not work. It took a lightly scratched and smudged music CD that was nonetheless working fine and ruined it. (That will teach me to "fix" what isn't truly broken.) Fortunately, I made a backup of the disc beforehand, so it was not a total loss, but I will not risk any more expensive media on SkipDoctor. For those of you who were able to make it work, congratulations. You are luckier and/or more patient than me. I'll be returning my SkipDoctor immediately, before I'm tempted to "give it another chance." I have enough coasters lying about my house, and they didn't cost me $15+ apiece.

Summary: folow directions
Review: Its really easy if you follow instructions. and the people who say its to hard turning the wheel than obviously you spend to much time in front of your TV or CD player anyway it works on 95% of my games and Cds.

Summary: I Love This Thing
Review: I've been using the Skip Doctor for about 3 years now and I must say that I don/t think that I could ever live without one. I have refinished over 200 CD's and 90% of those have become "Like New" again, but it has never [messed] up a single CD. Now I have never tried the Skip Dr. on DVD's or games, I don't see how it would mess up that type of disc. I love my skip Dr...

Summary: Works great, if you want to waste time spinning the wheel
Review: Got this product today, tried it out, and it worked fine....instructions state that the cd should make 1 full revolution, and that it moves slowly....that is the biggest understatement ever. It takes about 25 minutes to repair a disc, and that is if you are furiously cranking the lever. The end result does work. Fixed one of my NIN cds, but I sent it back. I'm not exactly a busy man, but paying 30 bux to spend 20 minutes cranking this wheel is not a good deal. Splurge for the Electric version, unless your right arm needs a workout.

Summary: Heartbreaking
Review: I've given this thing a thousand chances. I even followed all the advice other people gave in their reviews in response to the negative reviews. But it just doesn't work. whatsoever. the simplest, most minor scratches have appeared on my favorite cds making them skip. Some of these have been unreplaceable, so i was so excited thinking this may fix them. I've gone over and over and over again on the same cd's, numerous ones of varying degrees of damage, and nothing has happened.

While the claims that it makes things worse is false (unless your banging on the thing), it actually doesn't seem to do anything at all.

Im almost willing ot waste my money on the motorized one im so desperate, even though i doubt that will work either. If anyone has the secret to this machine, please enlighten me. It's possibly the worst, most useless product i've ever bought. Pure plastic and cloth, and the fluid is just water. This shouldn't be more than 10 dollars tops.

In conclusion, the inadequacy of the skipdoctor has made a grown man cry. I hope you're happy digital innovations.

Summary: An outstanding product
Review: I'd give this 6 stars, if I could. I've used this on several CDs, to perfection. You need to follow the directions exactly, and you need to understand that it won't fix every disk. But, if this won't fix it, nothing will. In any event, if it only fixes 2-3 CDs, it's paid for itself.

I suspect that the persons who have had trouble either didn't follow directions or expected it to do more than is possible.

Summary: CANT' FIND REPLACEMENT WHEELS
Review: I read alot of negative feed back and can't understand it. This product works just as described. I've repaired CD's DVD's PS1 & PS2 disk with this. Customers that gave bad reviews must have tried to clean the wrong side... This product works! The PROBLEM I'm finding is replacement wheels. They cost almost as much as the entire Product. $12.00 plus shipping & I haven't been able to find a store that carries them. If I had know how expensive replacment pads were and how hard they are to find I probably wouldn't have bought it... NNAAUUUGHH.. I would just used it only on the disk that were important. You can fix about 15 to 20 disk before the wheel comes apart.

Summary: if you follow directions, it works fine
Review: I see a lot of negative reviews here. Let's get the obvious out of the way; This thing is not a miracle worker. If your disc has deep gouges, nothing will help that. Get a new disc and be more careful next time.
SkipDr corrects data read errors caused by dirt and scratches by stripping away a very thin layer from the surface of the cd. This does not affect the data in any way, as the pits are located much further down on a layer far away from the protective clear plastic.

I've only used this on CDs, and it has worked fairly well. I had one cd that I thought was beyond all repair. granted, it took 4(!) passes to get it to play again, but it DOES work. The only gripe I have is that it feels flimsy with cheap plastic construction.
I found this a worthy investment. 4 out 5 stars
