Summary: Saved by Skip Doctor
Review: We had a couple of CD's that went with our "talking" english series at school. Several discs became scratched and skipped like crazy. I fixed them with this product and save replacement costs for the discs. I saved a costly computer software CD this way, too! I have not tried it on DVD media, but my experience with CD's leads me to give it a 4 star rating!

Summary: Excellent item. Saved me a bundle of disc replacements
Review: My kids had several GameCube discs that our 5-year-old 'played' with and scratched them to the point where they were unreadable. I used the Skip Dr on them and they are working like new! I have read that it ruins XBox games, but for GameCube, it is a God-send. Make sure you get the 3" disc adapter for the Cube games since it is not made to handle them right out of the box. I did, but it did mess up the resurfacing wheel. They are fairly inexpensive, though. Next, I'll be trying it on DVDs. That's another couple of hundred it should save me!

Summary: works fine for me!
Review: I got this as an xmas gift and was a little sceptical after reading some of the reviews here. I decided to give it a go on 2 audio discs that had been permanently skipping in the same place no matter how much I cleaned them. I followed the instructions,it took about 5 minutes per disc, and they both played perfectly afterwards. I don't know why other people have been having trouble - I can only comment on my experiences and I would definitely recommend it for audio CDs.

Summary: Why is everyone having such a hard time with this?
Review: I honestly don't know why there are so many 1 and 2 star reviews for this product...I was recommended this by a friend who said he uses it to repair both CD's and DVD's. I needed to fix a few of my CD's (none of my DVD's have the first scratch - guess cause I don't use them in my car all the time) so I got it today and gave it a shot.... I've only done 2 CD's so far and the results have been nothing less than outstanding. One of the CD's I fixed had gotten caught in my car's CD player and had pretty bad scratches on the top of the disc as well as the bottom (!) and after 3 complete uses of the skip doctor I don't have a single problem getting it to play every track.... yes you do have to have patience as it turns VERY slowly, and that's the only reason as to why I didn't give it 5 stars, and I'm taking a break from it for a minute because my right arm is a bit stiff...but this is the only downside I've found with this product so far. It's already fixed two of my favorite CD's that I thought I would have to toss out because they were unplayable before... and I've still got more to do. I say it's a extremely good bargain...and you'll also get some excersise from using it - an added bonus for all of us who play video games and watch movies and listen to our discmans a lot.

Summary: Worked on 9 out of 13 damaged discs...
Review: Has paid for itself already. The discs that it couldn't repair were a loss regardless, so no harm from trying. In a previous review, Nanci notes that it leaves a 'film' on the disc that doesn't come off. She failed to read the directions which explain on page 1 under 'General Description':

"...the right amount of material is removed from the disc and only a light radial pattern remains. This pattern is ignored by all of the devices (e.g. CD players, DVD players, CD drives, etc) that read your discs."

...and this seems to be the case. I was a little disturbed by this pattern at first, but the discs seem to retain their clarity with no dropouts or errors (if the repair worked). I am an audio engineer, and a careful (snobbish?) listener. This product should save you money, unless you are in the habit of stacking your CD's while not in the case, or if you leave them face down on the end table, accidently using them as coasters (i.e. general mishandling). Normal useage scuffs and scratches seem to repair well.

Summary: Piece of Junk
Review: This thing is the cheapest possible piece of junk ever.

The first turn of the handle and it broke.

I sent it back to them and it was returned address unknown - forwarding time expired.

Save your money!

Summary: i don't understand why you are having such trouble!
Review: i've used the skip doctor before on many of my disks, it worked wonderfully. i got many of my cds working again and no longer skipping. deep scratches can take a little longer to work out, but hell, it beats having to trash the disk and buy a new one. the skipdr is amazing. it works by slowly taking off the top surface of the cd and refinishing it. you need to spray the cd with the included purified water (regular water works fine, by the way)...then through it in the machine and crank away...everyone on here is saying that it takes like 20 mins to refinish a cd, thats crap, it takes about 2 mins...and it's not hard to do at all...you can use the exercise admit it or be lazy and get the motorized one, stop whining.
it leaves the surface with a diagonal radial pattern, that i think looks pretty cool...the good thing about this pattern is that it seems to be more resistant to finger prints and dust. i would recommend this for anyone that has a large media collection, because it works on all 5" cd-like media (cds, cdr, cdrw, dvd, ps2, xbox, saturn, dvdr, dvdrw, vcd)...it is fantastic and pays for itself after a couple of disk fixes, just buy it, you will be happy

Summary: Skip Dr.
Review: I finally broke down and had to take a chance on this product, as i had several DVD movies that would no longer play becuase my 2yr old keeps getting a hold of them and scratching them up pretty bad. I went to Wal Mart and bought this product, and I'm very impressed as all my bad DVD's that wouldn't play , now play perfect and don't skip at all. For really bad CD's or DVD's, i keep the surface wet, and make 3 or 4 rounds on the media, and if it's not that bad i'll go once or twice. This is definatley a great product and recommend all of you that have media that no longer plays, or skips, to pick this up as you wont regret it. I would have snagged the motorized version of this but didn't have it in stock anywere, but this works just as well and is plenty cheaper than the motorized version.

Summary: Do not buy this
Review: The Skipdoctor completely ruined my copy of Mallrats.
So instead of a skip in one scene, I could no longer play
it at all. It just does not work as advertised.

Summary: cd repair
Review: worked reasonably well - fixed a couple game cd's with one wheel...not sure how long the wheels are going to last but it's cheaper than new games!
