Description:

Over the years, Picture Publisher has matured into a well-regarded image editing program. This latest version, specially designed for digital camera users, proves to be a powerful and accessible tool, providing exceptionally good value. Combining a rich feature set with an easy-to-use interface, Picture Publisher 10: Digital Camera Edition has plenty going for it.

Installation is straightforward and unleashes two separate, though linked, applications. The Micrografx Photo Album provides a repository for all your digital images (using a familiar Windows Explorer-type interface) and offers a simple way to store, order, and annotate images, create albums, and display thumbnail libraries. Simple wizards let you create multimedia slide shows (which you can record to blank CDs if you have a CD-RW drive), plus batch processing is supported for renaming, rotating, and other basic editing functions.

For access to more powerful image editing functions, launch Picture Publisher itself. A visual toolbar provides step-by-step instructions for those new to image editing software, while a collection of tools and palettes are available as you grow in confidence. A full range of masking, cropping, and color correction tools are available to help make the most of your images, and a fantastic array of professional-style effects can be easily applied using the Effects Browser. Picture Publisher utilizes Objects, which offers the equivalent of layers, for superimposing images and text while keeping them separately editable.

Often overshadowed by the heavyweights in the image editing world--such as Adobe Photoshop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro--Micrografx has put together this entry-level product in the hope of attracting the army of new digital camera users. Anybody persuaded to try Picture Publisher 10: Digital Camera Edition won't be disappointed. --Jason Weston
