Description:

A one-stop digital photo solution, Roxio's PhotoSuite 4 Platinum lets do-it-yourself types easily capture, organize, edit, and share their digital photos. Whether you're a beginner who has just purchased a digital camera or a seasoned new media designer, PhotoSuite 4 Platinum offers an impressive array of features that let you up the ante on your makeshift digital photo albums.

New features introduced in PhotoSuite 4 include Web page creation, improved image stitching, interactive panoramas, improved e-mail support, screen saver creation, and support for third-party Photoshop plug-ins. Additionally, with more than 40 powerful editing tools available, digital photographers can now tweak their images to perfection. Users can easily prepare their photos in a number of ways using the Touchup, Paint & Draw, and Special Effects features. Within the Special Effects feature, users can choose from up to six different categories of included special effects or even import third-party plug-in effects. As an added extra, PhotoSuite 4 includes a bonus CD with more than 1,000 templates and royalty-free photos.

PhotoSuite 4 does a great job of extending the boundaries of digital photography beyond the PC by offering several Internet-friendly features. The new Web-based options are so easy to navigate and use that we were able to create and publish a basic image-rich Web site in minutes. PhotoSuite 4 also provides a number of predesigned Web templates for the HTML-challenged. The WYSIWYG user interface allows for quick and easy insertion of image content and text. Users can also share their photos by e-mailing photos or entire albums to friends without having to switch over to their e-mail software packages. This feature is compatible with most MAPI-based Windows e-mail programs and most Web-based e-mail services.

With the growing proliferation of digital cameras in the mass marketplace, Roxio does a great job of making its software compatible with most digital cameras and digital image formats. PhotoSuite 4's easy-to-use interface makes navigating the software an afterthought. We were able to easily and efficiently store and manage our digital assets within minutes. A favorite feature of PhotoSuite 4 is its powerful PhotoTapestry technology, which allows users to stitch their photos together into mosaics or 360-degree interactive panoramas. Users can use PhotoSuite 4 to build a photorealistic 3-D environment based on flat 2-D photographs, similar to a QuickTime VR layout. Once the 360-degree panoramas are built, users can explore and interact with the panorama.

PhotoSuite 4 is far superior to other all-in-one digital photo solutions such as Adobe's PhotoDeluxe and Ulead's Photo Express. However, if you crave a high level of creative control, you may want to think about a more sophisticated package such as Adobe Photoshop. For everyone else, PhotoSuite 4 should be more than sufficient for your needs. --Rich Ting
