Summary: Good even for the amateur user
Review: Photoshop not only saved my life working at a newspaper, it's been a fantastic program to use in creating graphics and photos for my Web sites. New features on 7.0 take a few sessions to get used to, particularly for anyone upgrading from a version before 5.5, but overall, the program is better and easier than ever. Even an amateur, learn-it-yourself user should find Photoshop easy to manage - though for the price, I'd say this is an expert-geared product.

Review: Well, to start off Photoshop is the best image-editing tool in the business. I learned Photoshop in school and from I can tell you that to purchase Photoshop is worth it. Photoshop is a tool for younger people who know more or less how to use certain tools like maybe some have messed around with Paint on your computer well Photoshop is really an upscale to that a professional tool and really I think it is one of the easiest programs to use. Sure, people say that there are other programs that are better. Well, I have news for them there isn't any better program out there I mean I have Paint Shop Pro 8 the latest version and well it does not even compare one bit to Photoshop. Sure, Photoshop is more expensive, but let me tell you for the price it is worth it.

Review: If you do any kind of work with photography or imaging, this is the most essential tool in your toolbox. With nearly endless options, you can extend your creativity to the max, once you figure out how everything works. I would recommend this program to anyone, but only if you want to cough up $550.

Summary: The premier graphics utility...
Review: I've been a Photoshop user since version 2.0, I believe. At least 5 years of using this program have given me so many hours of enjoyment, education, and thousands of great graphics which I've used for everything from pamphlets, web pages, t-shirts, buisness cards, book jacket sleeves, and touching up family photos.7.0 specifically is simply the best version of Photoshop yet. Heck, I was happy with 2.0! So you can imagine how elated I am with 7.0. ImageReady is a great feature. It kind of a scaled down Photoshop. I especially like it when I need to do a "quickie"--a quick fix, or touch up, when I don't need to load up all of Photoshop. Photoshop's place in graphical art is unequalled by any other program in any other feild. Nothing even comes close to Photoshop.

Review: I love the program and me as a graphic designer wouln't have anything else. Only one minus in comparison to vesion 6. Why did Adobe change the brushpalette. It was fine the way it was. This one is a little more anoying to use.

Summary: Amazing
Review: Photoshop 7 is a great program even for amateurs. It is not very user friendly, but there are classes and manuals available to help teach how to use all the amazing features of Photoshop.
When I installed the program, it bugged my computer (Windows XP) and I had to uninstall it to make my computer work again. Installing it in safe mode fixed the problem, however. Other than that, the program is definitely worth the money.

Summary: The King of graphics editing, Baby!!!
Review: Hopefully you can find an old copy around to upgrade and save yourself most of the cost. My kids have started using it to touch up their school photos. They use it to speed up the graphics for selling on ebay. We fixed our Christmas picture with it. We used it to create a mock up cover for a book my wife proposed to a publisher. We used it to automatically put several copies of a photo on the expensive paper, instead of wasting it. Everything turns out looking like a professional did it, even though we are simple amateurs.

Summary: Just a quick comment on Makthorpe's review...
Review: I have being running Photoshop 7.0 on Windows 2000 Professional for over a month now, and have not experienced any problems at all (i.e. System Crashes). My guess is that other programs in Makthorpe's computer were conflicting with photoshop. Apart from that I must say that I'm really impressed with all photoshop's features. I learn something new everyday now. I find this program fun to play with, so it is not difficult to learn. Though there is a lot to learn...

Summary: Wow -- there's so much to like!
Review: I came to Photoshop 7 with more than a bit of trepidation. I had always thought it would be far too complicated to learn, and that I could get by with more "basic" packages like Photoshop Elements or Jasc Paintshop Pro. After reading so many rave reviews about PS7, I finally decided to take the plunge. One word: awesome! As a photographer working mostly in digital these days, PS7 is just a dream come true for me. The file browser (new in version 7, I understand) offers quite an array of functionality for previewing, sorting, and batch-processing images -- the sort of thing I used to use a standalone product to do. Being able to sort, rank, batch-rename, and rotate (i.e., picture shot in portrait but needs to be rotated 90 degrees to display properly) files in the browser has more than tripled my front-end productivity. The ability to export the browser cache information to CD, for example, also allows me to create "virtual" or online proof sheets -- another time saver, as well as an ink- and paper-saver. The healing brush (also new in this version) is an exceptional tool, and I would go so far as to say that it, plus the file browser capabilities, have repaid my investment already. If you've ever retouched photos, and especially closeups of faces, where even the slightest variations in color or saturation will make the retouch even more glaringly obvious than the original blemish, you will not believe the results this tool offers. Operating something like a clone stamp tool, it samples pixels from the source, but then integrates them with the hue and luminance information surrounding the destination. The result is facial retouches that look flawless, as though the resulting skin grew there naturally. In just a few seconds I can fix problem spots that would've taken several minutes each, or longer, in the "old days" before I began using PS7. Another impressive tool, related to the healing brush, is the patch tool. Basically, instead of defining a source for the "good" pixels, you make a selection of the "bad" ones you want to improve, and then drag that selection onto an area of "good" source. It's very good for retouching large areas (where painting with the healing brush might be tedious), and also does an exceptional job on architectural flaws (cracks in stucco, for example) and foliage. Then, of course, there's all the other thousands of things PS7 lets you do. I had used layers and masks in Paintshop Pro before, and so found that an easy adjustment to make, but there's so very much more available if only I can learn how to use it all! I definitely recommend a good third-party companion guide; I got a video CD guide, which has proven very valuable already, and I've only scratched the surface of PS7's functionality. If you're a pro photographer or a serious amateur, you really should consider Photoshop 7. It is a gigantic leap ahead of the software you're likely using now, and the learning curve isn't as scary as a lot of people make it out to be. And, of course, if you do any kind of graphic or fine arts work, you probably own it already . . . I very highly recommend it!
