Summary: A Nice Buy
Review: Three cd-roms are included with this package: Fisher-Price Ready for School Kindergarten, Math Blaster, and Jumpstart Spelling. Installation for all three is very simple.
My three-year-old son enjoys these, especially the Fisher-Price one. It teaches early reading and math, colors, shapes, time, sizes, matching and more. It is a cute program with good graphics. I had to go through the games with my son at first, but now he can work through them on his own, calling for help only rarely. We especially liked the ice cream shop---very cute. The Math cd-rom features green space creatures which are cute enough---(though I personally don't care for space aliens, these are not offensive to me)---they look like green people. The addition feature is nice because it allows the child to create problems that show the answers along with visual representations. (It is really quite easy to do.) Most games on the math disk require some occasional help from mommy as it tends to be overdirective if activities are not completed. All in all, the math program is a great reinforcement tool. My son likes it, but it is a little difficult for his age--probably better for a four or five-year-old. Our favorite feature is an adorable counting song for counting by ones, twos, threes, fives, and tens which is set to a catchy little tune. He has the whole thing memorized. Trust me on this one: the Spelling program is too advanced for a three-year-old. I went through it with him once. He really enjoyed it. He gave the answers and I clicked and dragged. He was able to correctly answer which letter went in the space to spell each word. All this was wonderful, but I became rather bored. It is a good program for practicing spelling, the idea behind it is great, and it is nicely set up; it just takes tooooo long to complete for an adult attention span. (: My son would love to do it by himself, but it is too advanced for his newly-acquired mouse skills. A child will need to have exceptional mouse control and patience to work alone. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase, because it is very educational, fairly easy to use,(even for a toddler), and a great value. There are tons of different games. It is sure to provide your child with hours of learning fun. I recommend this to everyone with children age 4-6---or younger, if you are willing to invest a little time helping your little one. This program is a nice buy, but Disney Learning Toddler (The Winnie the Pooh cd) is even better if your child is only three or four. It is much more interesting, and my son can do it on on his own. (See my review.) Check it out at Amazon. I recommend getting both.
