Summary: Great game... maybe I got lucky?
Review: I remember playing Oregon Trail as a girl in elementary school - recently I saw it here on Amazon.com and decided to get it, even after reading all of the negative customer reviews. Maybe I got lucky or something but there was absolutely nothing wrong with any of the software and everything loaded up and installed great. My computer's pretty new, too... I didn't have to go through the hassle of downgrading anything (I have Quick Time 4.0), like some people had complained about in their comments. I definitely recommend the game - brought back lots of memories, only with better graphics and easier game controls. And you can't beat Amazon's price. Awesome game!!

Summary: Not very challenging...but still good
Review: I think this game is pretty good. I had one technical problem at the beginning but we sorted it out and it is now easy and simple to start (we don't have to change anything) and the whole game works. Unlike the first edition, it is 3D and actually shows the wagon moving along the trail with scenery instead of just a map with a line. There is a problem with crossing rivers but all you have to do is set it (through the options menu) to do an auto-cross and it works very well. I rarely have problems with the game and I've finished it twice without having any major problems. It's more interactive than the first edition, not only can you hunt but you can fish and gather as well. And you can actually look around the towns (e.g. Independance) and forts. I like this game a lot better than the first edition. The only thing is that it isn't very challenging - you don't often experience things like becoming ill, having no grass for the oxen, etc. Overall though, this game is great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Summary: oregon trail
Review: it is a fun game for all ages for people who just want to have fun. it is also a good learning experience for all students learning about the oregon trail. it gives true accounts of how hard a journey the trail was. i give this game five stars.

Summary: Watch out!
Review: My daughter is seven and was extremely disturbed by this software. She stopped eating (thought she was going to catch Cholera) and is still having trouble with her food.

Please be careful!

Summary: A Classroom Favorite
Review: My third graders study the Oregon Trail every year and enjoy playing this game. It is educational and exciting! Kids take a small party on a covered wagon trip from Independence, Missouri to Oregon. First, they buy everything they need, from oxen to bullets. They must provide their own food along the way (by hunting, trading, or buying at a fort) and are often faced with illness and even death. If someone does die, you can write their tombstone, and maybe see it on your next trip!

This game turns textbook learning into reality. It is hard to make it all the way to Oregon (Hint: it goes faster if you have a lot of oxen). But along the way, you will learn to take care of your party and to appreciate things like good water and good weather. I happily recommend this game to kids age 8-10.

Summary: I repeat DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. I repeat...!
Review: Okay, Okay, This game may look so fun, but it isn't so fun. I started playing this and it was okay, but then when I went on the voyage/trip to Oregon, it was boring! Nothing to really do and then the game started to mess up...like half of the screen went black. This game is so different than Oregon Trail 3(and not in a good way). I reccomend Oregon Trail 3 instead of this piece of junk.

Summary: Too buggy
Review: The bugs with this program make it too frustrating to use. Besides the QuickTime problem, the program hangs after playing for 30 minutes. Very annoying.

Summary: oregon trails fourth ed.
Review: The first CD works fine. But the second will not load, and it is frustrating. We enjoy the oregon trails II and use it daily in the detention center I work for in AZ. We received only half the value of the product we paided for. A big let down. Take them off the shelves in the stores.

Summary: ENGAGING BUT MUCH TOO SHORT OF AN ADVENTURE...
Review: This game is fun and adventerous. It sucks you in comepletely but leaves something to be desired as it is not as great a challenge as I'd hoped. Nevertheless, it is a great way to pass the time and to exercise problem-solving skills.

Summary: VERY BORING!!
Review: This game is so boring! There is not much of a challenge to this game. You can only choose from the same boring people each time you start. It takes so long TRYING to cross a river that I was about to fall asleep waiting for it to load! Dont buy this game, it will almost crash the computer!!!!
