Review: We picked this title up at a garage sale, and it is now my girl's favorite. I suspect more sophisticated gamers would scoff, but that isn't where we are at. We've only had more educational stuff like 3rd grade adventures and some lightweight activity centers like Toy Story. This game is pure fun - surfing down the trees, throwing dirt at animals that have the gall to get in the way, and 'ground pounding' to break into caves. Aside from start-up difficulties, there was none of this "Dad, I can't get this to work" so common with kid's titles.

We did have trouble on first trying to use it - the CD insert is simply wrong, and it is not at all obvious how to get to the online help. Deep in the online help you will find the actual keyboard mapping, and things start working much better.

Review: When we purchased the "Tarzan" DVD, there was a free demo of the PC game included. We figured our son was having so much fun with this, he wouldn't need the full version. Maybe he didn't, but I did! I got so addicted to this little teaser that I wanted the entire game. For under ten bucks, it's a steal.

Level one begins with Tarzan as a child. Gather bananas and other fruits to power up your "lives", throw coconuts to abolish dangerous animals, swing from vine to vine, collect the letters that spell "Tarzan", and "tree surf" (slide down a tree, duck under and hop over branches, collect tokens). For parents concerned with violence, the only possible objection might be that Tarzan (young and old version) carries a knife he can use to swipe at and abolish animals- the plus side is that once they're dead, they dissipate into a spray of butterflies. On level 8, Tarzan fights Sabor, the leopard that killed his family in the movie. Here, Tarzan uses a spear in a thrusting stab motion, and when he wins, Sabor merely runs off- I must stress that there is no blood or graphic violence. But if you're someone who's sensistive to even the implication of violence, you should know this before purchasing the game. We love it, and so does our son. Lots of fun stuff, even some more difficult challenges to keep your kids interested. A great pick.
