Rating: Summary: Played Beta Loved it Review: I played Lineage2 in beta man it was awsome. I didnt go for the big server instead i chose a little one. I didnt have many pk problems and all i did have i delt with, with my bow. Pvp is fun and lvling is also fun. I had a clan and that was cool. Definatly get this game. My favorite thing has gotta be the hate of other races. Being an elf it was cool to see Dark Elf raiding parties and attack them. ELVES RULE!!! :P
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I've been playing for about 3 months now. All I can say is that I love this game that's fueled by HATE. Leveling is pretty standard... gets pretty fun higher levels. PK'ing is always a blast... if you're not into killing other players, then this isn't for you sissies. Play style is pretty straight-forward... point-n-click. Hope to see you on and dead.
Rating: Summary: Beta Shows Promise Review: I've played the beta for 4 days first off before I begin I'd like to make it clear that the beta is missing features that will be in the full game which has already been released. So my review will be primarily about my experience in the beta release. The author who wrote "Played Beta...Boring Boring Boring" makes some good points. Leveling up takes a very very long time if you are a spell caster (wizard) before you hit level 14 it is very hard for you to kill anything that runs as fast as you do because spells take along time to caste there's 2 time delays the time first is casting the spell basically your character says a few words waves her hands and the spell cast animation takes place secondly after you cast the spell you can't recast it until the time restriction is over don't confuse casting time and time restriction they are two different things two different countdowns. So you're stuck with killing stone soldiers or guardians cuz they walk a lot slower than you. Wizards are support characters you basically have to get a party with fighters and wizards, wizards heal fighters you will do a lot of healing. But you don't get anything for helping your team mates any XP so you get jacked there. A lot of the wizard spells are support spells for example "mighty" which increases some attack for a fighter or the person you cast it on and you can't cast it on yourself which is again stupid. Fighters are the hack and slash guys if you like cool swords cool armor this class is for you, you are always face to face with an enemy and you'll usually have a spell caster healing you as you fight. Low level fighters can kill a variety of enemies unlike the spell casters they are not as limited in what they can kill. Fighters cannot heal themselves so you rely on spell casters to heal you or expensive and ineffective potions. This is the developers way of encourage partying with other players which is fine but as a support character I'd like some credit for healing =P Classes are mostly the same for human, elves, and dark elves, dwarfs are a bit different and I didn't get to play them. Character customization is very limited the spell selection from what I hear is very limited if you're used to playing Neverwinter Nights you'll feel very constrained in Linage2. I'm hoping they will add more as the game progresses and new content is added. You can't really increase dexterity, strength, and intelligence like in NWN again limited character customization. You don't have too many options when customizing your characters physical appearance there is a very limited amount of hair styles, facial expressions etc... so don't be surprised if you see 20 people who look exactly like you in the game in the same area as you. There's a lot of running most of your time is spent running too much of your time is spent running. I hear you can get horses and things that move faster than you to ride on when the official game is released. You'll spend at least 5 minutes running from point A to point B. The game is mostly point and click, object collision sucks you can't tell your character to follow the path so if the path turns and you don't tell your character to turn they keep running straight. You can't dodge things either if someone has you targeted and they cast a spell or shoot an arrow it's a guaranteed hit the only thing that varies is the amount of damage done but that's usually based on your armor or magic spells you have protecting you. Even if you run behind a tree or rock you still get hit which I hope they will declare a bug (refer to stone golems/soldiers). Disconnecting from the game, if you disconnect in battle your most likely dead, if you disconnect in a field of monsters the next time you logon your most likely dead. Creatures spawning next to you if you are in a battle will most likely attack you so that means you have to deal with 2 enemies. Quests are plentiful but you have to be at the right level or you'll get slaughtered. So what's cool about the game, the graphics very good you'd better have a half decent PC machine you'll spend much of your time in overhead view looking at your character from top down as they run to avoid chugging. There are lots of good weather effects, it tries to simulate a real world which is nice I have yet to see thunder/lightning and rain or snow. The time and detail spent into the architecture of buildings is again very eye candy, excellent character detail. The ability to setup your own shops is neat kind of like your very own ebay. I'd like to see a lot more character customization seeing 10 spell casters with all the same spells is boring same goes for the fighters. If any of the game developers are reading this, this goes for all of them you should always offer a free trial. Who is going to pony up the cash for a fee based game they have never played?
Rating: Summary: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Review: L2 is fun! It has tons of reasons why to play and tons of reasons not to. THE GooD, BaD, UglY: Stunning graphics, even on lowest settings! Community of a clan and useing TeamSpeak w/ a mic to talk to clan mates. PVP can be fun, funny, angering, sad, ect.. PLayers go red for killing you when you are white which means they can be killed to drop stuff. But problem is you are now dead so you wont be picking up his drops and you lost 10% xp (=2 3 hours to 6 hours of farming mobs). People know expliots, for cheating. Questing stinks, most of the quests are not as rewarding as they could or should be. It does get monotonous killing mobs over and over for levels. People are using bots to level fast or get money to sell on-line. People hae found ways to dupe before it was discovered thus creating people selling 18mil adena on ebay and having uber gear on. Need more servers because you almost dont hhave a chance with such high lvl clans to ever be in a castle siege. (I have a lvl 28 orc Raider) 3 weeks of having no life have earned me some gameing friends and an addiction I wish i never found. The game is great but I wish there was more customization to Characters. IF TSR reads this, Make a game for us massive multi players plz. The game is good, but has alot they could make better. I wont be looking else where because of the time invested here. I hear City of Heros is better. If you havent bought it, you could give it a try, or you could just keep your job! lol
Rating: Summary: Considering Lineage II? Read me please: Review: I've played several titles before this; EQ, DAoC, and Shadowbane. Here's the Good: The customized Unreal 3 engine is graphically stunning, the landscape is varied, monsters are truly creepy, and players are scarier still. The challenging gameplay encourages innovation and tactics, the simple mouse interface is easy to learn for players new to this genre. NCSOft has identified and improved many things that RPG players enjoy and created a superior product. It's simply the best current offering in the online RPG world, and Sony & Blizzard had best wake up and smell the coffee. Here's the Bad: PvP and death penalties are harsh, and may discourage some players. Designed to discourage griefing; (an immature playing style that affects many detrimentally) they also penalize legitimate play between competitors - this needs resolution yet by NCSoft. Experienced players will find the interface too simplistic and desire more control and customization. It wasn't available in beta. Here's the Ugly: Players in China have raised macros and "botting" to an art form: and already in the beta version of the game! - simply put, a macro or "bot" is an automated program that can be run 24/7; kills monsters, collects loot, sells items, etc. for you while you are away. Because the economy and political structure of the game is completely player-run, this ruthless practice allows these cheaters to completely disrupt and monopolize it. thus far, NCSoft has been lackluster in banning these cheaters, even hesitant to do so. One has to ask, why? It is stranger still, as code and software already exists to easily discover and identify these cheating programs when running. This issue, left unresolved, will destroy the game for them. Summary: This should and could be an awesome MMORPG if NCSoft can "secure" its game from cheating practices and establish a level gaming environment for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Another Beta tester... Review: I played open beta and I thought the game was really good and lots of fun. I'm not much of a PvP fan so I was worried at first, but the PvP was very tolerable. The graphics were also very nice, but there weren't enough different player character models for this day & age. I also really loved the quest system in the game. Unfortunately, I don't see myself playing it long term when there are simular more superior games coming up on the horizon. (EverQuest2, World of Warcraft, Warhammer) EQ2 is very simular and it promises to be top of the line. Anyway, if EQ2 wasn't coming out in a few months I might consider buying this, but I don't fore see me getting this anytime soon.
Rating: Summary: Visually stunning world of chaos Review: Rarely have I played a game that has caused me to stop what I am doing and stare at the computer-generated scenery. Lineage 2 has done that several times already. The graphics, built on a highly modified Unreal engine, are excellent, and allow for a variety of terrains and smoothly animated characters and creatures. My only complaint with regard to the graphics would be that some of the textures don't overlap smoothly and there are obvious seams in the world at some, rare, points. I suppose this is inevitable. Gameplay is a breeze and it's easy to get to a point where you have several choices in how you develop. Some have criticized the game for a lack of specialized classes, but I think starting out players as generalists in either combat or magic is a good idea. That way you have a clear picture of what you want to do when you finally decide to become a Wizard, a Knight, a Shillen Oracle, a Spellhowler, whatever. It's better for RP, too, even though there isn't much of that going on in L2. L2 is not a safe world, in that you may be cut down by other players at any time. The karma system is a good innovation although personally I'd like to see the 'red' penalty for killing last a bit longer. It allows players to defend themselves, although more often than not this only allows the attacker to avoid turning red. I personally like the element of chaos and danger because it's realistic for a fantasy world and encourages partying, which is always more fun. The level treadmill isn't overly simple, which is good, and when the game is complete the clan system should add lasting value. The music is good, the sound is good, and my only problem with the control scheme is that it is sometimes hard to pinpoint enemies in mass melees or indoors, where the camera sometimes get wonky. L2 is a very promising game to which I'll be subscribing, for a couple of months at least. Give it a shot, at least until Vanguard comes out.
Rating: Summary: You are, or you arent. Review: You are either a fan of MMORPG's or you're not, it's plain and simple. Lineage 2 IS a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. Kills monsters, gain exp, gain levels, gain items. (PlayerKilling is also a part of most mmorpgs, so be prepared to die a bit) Never judge a game from it's Beta Test, take shadowbane for an example, the beta test was great! But when the game released.. well, it sucked! Wait a while before deciding on this one, it's not done yet, and the newbies are giving bad reviews.
Rating: Summary: Not Worth It in Long Run Review: After playing Open Beta mainly on Lionna becoming a 21 lvl Elf Wizard... I've come to the conclusion that though this game is graphically stunning its dull. With the prevalence of Bots or Macros running its down right depressing to see a noob pass your hard work in a couple of days as they ran their insane battle bot macro... and makes one think what is the point that I can finally see something awesome only to have kills stolen and to be killed by a word processor because you've entered their personal kill area where they farming for adeana and kills... PKs I can handle, being killed by a Bot is just stupid... Though I don't mind the limit of classes Fighter or Mage... the lack of options for personal features and modification of ones character it extremely limited... everybody generally looks the same... same faces... same hair styles... same hair colors... same stats... The quest are pretty standard... find this... kill that... bring me back its head so to say. Leveling is real slow... even worse when your a mage... between sitting and recovering mana... their are no mana potions... and trying to play solo... it's time consuming... by the time I reached lvl 10 I was reading a book waiting for my mana to recover... where as Hit Points recovered quickly, but a mage is useless in physical combat and only gets slightly better later in life... mainly because one has more HP than the mob.... Overall the game is simple to learn... the lack of variety cuts down on some lag issues, but its depressing if you actually play the game to see your characters outclassed in days by well trained bots... and it comes down to Hack (literally Hacked) and Slash. Not worth the money for the game or their monthly charge. Too bad really... seemes to have potential, but not worth it if they can't protect against the INVASION OF THE BOTS.... :-(
Rating: Summary: Addictive. Review: I have never been much of a gamer. Nothing has seemed to get me interested into a game before. Until one day my friend begged me to download the beta and play it for a little while. After a while, I finally gave in and downloaded it. I never knew that I would fall in love with it. I played it, like my friend told me to, and I liked it, then I loved it, and then I just became addicted. The graphics are great, the quality is great, and the characters are drawn out very nicely. If you love Fantasy and Adventure, then this game is perfect for you. I deffinately reccomend it!
