Rating: Summary: DON"T BUY THIS!!! I REPEAT- DON"T BUY THIS!! Review: Although I'm basicly computer illiterate, I'm definatly NOT impressed with this product! I had to buy a "cheap" keybooard and take it apart to disable any of the keys (such as the "F" keys, escape, Alt., Ctrl- you get the idea)so as my child couldn't press them. Actually, if ANY key is held down too long it will "shut down" my computer. Among this, there are MANY MANY other design flaws- as mentioned in other reviews. It's been very disappointing to me and my child.
Rating: Summary: The programmer of this thing should be fired Review: As an original beta tester of Microsoft XP and a software developer, if I dared release a piece of software as pathethically buggy and unusable on XP as this garbage is, I should be shot! I repeat what the prior reviewer said...the manufacturer does NOT support the product...oh, and by the way, if you check out their so-called support site on the web, you will find there and only there that it doesn't run on laptops either.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS OR ANYTHING BY SO DISREPUTABLE A COMPANY
Rating: Summary: This is garbage Review: Received as a Christmas gift and my child was very excited to play with it. Guess what, take a HP laptop, pentium 4 running XP and it will not even install! That's something new for me but I'm not talking about 1 CD that won't even install, all 3 CD's included in the box will not install. I have never had that problem with any other software. I remember the days of DOS when software was normally quirky. This is not quirky, it's a ripoff.
Rating: Summary: Buyer Be Very Wary Review: The trusted leader in children's learning really blew it with this product. I bought SS Baby deluxe, SS Preschool and SS Toddler for my 2 and 4 year olds. My little girl was SO excited to play these games but Uh-oh. The small print says several of the disks DON'T WORK on Windows 2000 and they were developed for XP before the program was released so it is shaky on XP machines too. The bottom line - we can't run most of the CD's - some will install but not play. Some won't give the sound, some won't install. Very disappointing. Also Encore (who produces product) says on their web that they don't do refunds - you have to go back to the original store. Also they don't have an 800 toll-free number so you have to pay for support calls. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FROM SESAME STREET. I WILL BE VERY WARY OF ALL THEIR PRODUCTS NOW.
Rating: Summary: Great for kids! Review: This set is a bundle of three previously released Windows 95/98 games. Which is why the customers below had problems. For someone used to dealing with DOS to Windows games and the like of the early/mid 90's, the problems were expected.
Having said that, I was able to install them successfully on my XP driven Gateway laptop. The Elmo games have more trouble with everything working except Elmo talking (really not a big loss, it's made for babies and adults are expected to participate, so it's extraordinarily easy to figure out where to click without Elmo's screechy baby voice). The Sesame Street Baby game played perfectly.
Although it doesn't mention it, these games also play very well on a Win 95 machine as low as a Pentium 200. It also comes with a bonus Marine Aquarium screen saver which my little nephew loves to watch.
These games are really cute and the developers knew just what a computer game for a baby should be like. The Elmo games even come with video clips from Sesame Street episodes.
For added fun, I suggest finding a Sesame Street mouse made for kids' smaller hands and which can work as a one-button mouse.
The only reason I didn't give these cute little games 5 stars is that I can't get the Elmo's World song out of my head! :p However, even over exposed Elmo is 100 times more preferable to Barney or Teletubbies!
