Summary: The turning point.
Review: An excellent follow-up to BUTTERSCOTCH BLUES, SOME SUNDAY picks up a little after one year has passed, and Sandy Hutchinson is still greiving after the loss of her husband, Adrian, because of his contracting the AIDS virus from his ex-wife. The repair of the house they shared together bring into her life Randall, a carpenter and renovator who owns his own business, and after a few awkward dates, a little piece of Sandy's heart. It's during this time that Adrian's brother, Winston, has shared his buried feelings for his sister-in-law. He doesn't want her to forget his brother, but he does want her to start over with him in her life. The best part of this story is that the triangle is filled with real feelings and fears of things that they don't fully understand. Another plus is that the players in this plot are not branded "good" or "bad", because each one has traits that we may not always agree with, and that makes them human. Add best friends Martha, who is trying to stay in control of her relationship with the use of a know-it-all attitude and alcohol. Janice, who is driving her man away with her obsessive streak of finding proof her faithful boyfriend is constantly cheating on her. Last, Britney, who is unexpectantly pregnant and find the well running dry on her and the hubby's finances, due to his insistance on not letting her work, so she can be a stay-at-home mom. One of the more consistant novels on the market, it's also one of the most romantic in both heart and head. A job well done!

Summary: I thought I was watching a movie!
Review: I almost missed my stop, was emotional loud on the train, and I wouldn't talk to my husband until I finshed reading my page. Reading this book was like watching a movie on tv.

I was Martha, Jancie , Sandy and Britney all rolled into one person. Well I may not have been to much like Jancie, as Britney put it with her crazy A#$.

I really good emotional read, I am going to sugguest we read this one for my book club.

I was moaning and groaning on the train ride home. Sometimes I can't believe how stupid women can be, or men either for that fact.

Good book worth a read pick it up.

Summary: Very good reading
Review: I enjoyed the way the storyline flowed. In a sequel sometimes you are looking for more perils for the characters to go through. But as with the long lasting TV show FRIENDS...sometimes it's just the everyday events in the lives of people that make for good reading.
Sandy again was the main character...looking for love. Which is tricky with the death of her husband Adrian from AIDS. Some times that can make your next true love--hard to find. But in her case love was waiting but was he REALLY the one for her--or possibly was he suffering from the same amount of grief and looking to replace what was loss...I wonder. I was surprised with what happened to Janice. I always thought she had more confidence than that. But then I guess even the toughest person can just plain ol have enough some time. The other characters Martha and Britney add to the flavor of the book with their 'drama'. Though the book does deal with female relationships I did enjoy the maturity of the characters in this sequel...I enjoyed Butterscotch Blues but in Some Sunday, I could see the characters growth... except for Janice...poor thing. But all in all it was very involving book. there was something to glean and take away from every character.
Looking forward to reading Margaret Johnson Hodges' newest release coming this fall!

Summary: Great read!
Review: I purchased this book when it hit the shelves, I just finished it tonight. I held off reading it because at the end of Butterscotch Blues, I was in tears. At the end of Some Sunday, I was smiling and rejoicing, and mad because I waited so long to read it. It portrays real sisters, with solid - to the bone- friendships. The men are strong, honest, and loving. I await Ms. Johnson-Hodge's next book, and this time, it will not sit on the shelf. I applaud her for allowing us a look at a disease, that is devastating our people, in a way that encourages us to open our minds, and maybe our hearts to its victims. Thank you Ms. Johnson-Hodge.

Summary: Awesome Read
Review: In Butter Scotch blues we met Sandy, Martha, Britney and Janice. As we know in Butter Scotch Blues Sandy lost her husband Adrian from AIDS it was a powerful kind of hurting that left her wary of ever loving again. Sandy's Feelings are re-awakened by Adrian's brother Winston right when Sandy thinks she's going to loose it in walks Randall a contractor who remodels her basement who also renovates her heart.

Martha Britney, and Janice are all going through changes Martha being a (ADA) assistant District Attorney she met a guy who can mke her dreams come true if she doesn't push to hard because she wants to live hapily ever after.

Britney being a big Women in size but also a loving new mother.
Britney was always different from her friends when she married Maurice and started living the life that she really wanted there comes a sudden change when work start to slow down for Maurice.

Janice is a whole different story from the rest of her friends she wants so mch and tries to hard to get it instead of just taking things slow and put her trust in herself and the man that she loves she would have been alright. She drives herself crazy and just can't take it anymore.

If you loved Butter Scotch Blues you will definitely love Some n Sunday this is an excellent book. Some Sunday really shows the real meaning about the importance of having outside support as well as support from family and friends. Some Sunday will definitely hold up a good discussion for any book club.

Blessing goes out to Margaret Johnson-Hodges.

Summary: Who we are........ and who we yet to become.................
Review: OH MY.........

This sequel was perfect from start to finish. Margaret Johnson-Hodge does a splendid job picking up the pieces of our 4 ladies.

Sandy...a new widow, who falls for the comforts of her brother-in-law in order to safe guard herself from the hurt of loving the handy man Randall whose fear has him running from her.

Masterful Martha...the brillant A.D.A finally finds out that she can't live in a bottle and she wants more than her badge and Calvin is just the man to give it to her.

Janice...a crazy beauty finally realizes that she isn't okay and gets the help she needs in order to finally become a whole person

Big Britany...courageous, pregnant, and with a newly gained attitude and wits learns to hold it all together, home, hubby, health, and baby

These women are all learning to clean out the clutter that has plagued their lives and are slowly working in order to get to the good part. I didn't cry in this book but I was thrilled that "my girls" are moving full circle.

Summary: A fantastic read
Review: Sandy goes through an emotional rollercoaster grieving over the death of her husband to aids. She seeks solace through her husband's brother Winston. When Winston is not enough she moves on to the carpenter Randall who is remodeling her basement.

Read this fantastic novel to find out how Sandy's in-law disapproves of Winston and Sandy's relationship and what happens between Sandy and Winston.

Summary: The Girls Are Back!
Review: Some Sunday is Margaret Johnson-Hodge's eagerly awaited sequel to Butterscotch Blues. Some Sunday continues the story of Sandy Hutchinson, as Johnson-Hodge revisits the lives of Sandy and her three best friends, Martha, Britney and Janice.

As the story opens, Sandy is still battling life without Adrian and while she's wary of love she realizes that she's still alive and that life must go on. But will she succumb to Adrian's brother, Winston or will she give handyman, Randall a chance? In the meantime, Sandy's friends are experiencing their share of ups and downs in the game of life as they dare to follow their hearts but maintain their wit. Brittany is dealing with being a stay at-home mom and wife, and while she has everything she's ever wanted, financial woes have her second guessing whether or not it's the right time to be thinking about increasing her household. Janice is dating the man of her dreams, Cliff(Sandy's brother), but her insecurities are quickly becoming demons and might overtake what's left of her relationship. And Martha is still the ultimate career woman but as the biological clock ticks, she realizes that she wants more and wonders if her current beau, Miles, is the ONE.

Once again, Johnson-Hodge does a wonderful job of inviting us into the lives of her characters and having the reader witness up, close and personal the conflict, challenges and decisions that each character will experience as they determine their futures and as they face new challenges, new lessons and new loves on the never-ending journey called life. However, I must admit that I had mixed feelings about Some Sunday. I so thoroughly enjoyed Butterscotch Blues that I really didn't want a sequel...I wanted well enough left alone. On the positive, I liked that Some Sunday seemed to provide more balance and attention to the four characters and that it was everyone's story rather than just Sandy's. However, I didn't get the same warm, engaging, riveting, poignant feel that I experienced with Butterscotch Blues. While each character had grown, they were also more gritty, edgy, sarcastic and sometimes the friendships weren't even warm or inviting. But then I guess the hard knocks of life sometimes has a funny way of creeping up on you and knocking off the rose-colored glasses. As a reader, I'm glad to have had the privilege to read both Butterscotch Blues and Some Sunday...but...now I'm ready for something different from this talented and creative writer. I believe that Some Sunday has finally brought closure to Sandy and the girls and, as such, I anxiously await and look forward to new characters and storylines from Ms. Johnson-Hodge.

Summary: decent sequel
Review: Some Sunday is the sequel to Butterscotch Blues. Sandy and her friends are back again, trying to make their love life work. Sandy is still trying to get over the death of her husband. One thing I most say about Sandy, she sure move through men pretty fast, to have lost a husband to aids. I throught this was a good sequel, as far as sequels go.
