Summary: Too much violence, not enough substance!
Review: I found this book to be very disappointing and disgusting. Haven't we come farther than this? And a woman wrote it? Aren't we tired of the depiction of violence toward women in all walks of our society? Regardless of the outcome?

In other words, I had hoped for more plot and less graphic detail and violence toward women; more depth in the characters (less sterotyping of women). Didn't appreciate the details on the rapes, molesting of children, etc. it wasn't necessary. All in all, a book I won't keep in my home.

Summary: Avid Reader of Mysteries
Review: I just finished reading this book. It took me all day but the book caught me from the first chapter. I could not put it down until I finished it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: Excellent suspense novel
Review: I just finished this book and my only problem with it is that it wasn't long enough! I can't wait for Sallie Bissell to finish her second book about Mary Crow and Jonathon Walkingstick. I love to read series books. I hope this is the first of many Mary Crow stories.

Summary: Can't put down until you finish
Review: I loved this book!! This is one of those "can't put down until you finish" books! I was up until 2:00 a.m. on a Wednesday work night because I couldn't wait to see how the women got out of the impossible circumstances they were each in. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery and the fact that the action isn't measured out in little doses but just slaps you right in the face! I'm hoping the reason "the murder" was left unsolved is because there will be a sequel. I like this author so much I scoured the Internet hoping for other novels and was disappointed to find this was her first. I would like to read more about the characters DA Mary Crow and Jonathan Walkingstick.

Summary: Enjoyable and Scary!
Review: I read suspense fiction ravenously, and admit I didn't expect much from what appeared to be a simple story. Boy was I wrong! This was intelligently written and brave. Where other authors might shy away from open brutality, this author jumped right in, shocking the reader into rapt attention. I couldn't wait to read what would happen next! The interplay between the characters was wonderful, and not at all "coddling," as many women-oriented novels are. There haven't been many books in the past few years that made me want to sleep with the lights on...this was certainly one of them.

I anxiously await Sallie Bissell's next book.

Summary: Ok Read
Review: I read this book because I liked the idea of a wilderness adventure. The writing is not a style that I care for. The excessive use of adverbs and unlikely comparisons made for some awkward descriptions. I would put examples in this review but I'm not sure if I can. This style may be fine for some readers but it distracted me. Fortunately, the middle to end of the book read better. I did not find this book to be overly violent or graphic but I can understand that some might think that it is. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Summary: Mystery unsolved and too much violence.
Review: I thought this book would be similar to Sandra Burke's Bones, but was very disappointed. One of the main character's murder remanins unsolved and the violence is gratuitous at best. Definitely not recommended.

Summary: A female version of "Deliverance"
Review: In the highly visible and dangerously charged Calhoun "Handsome Cal" Whitman murder trial, Atlanta assistant District Attorney Mary Crow attains the homicide conviction. After a particularly ugly final courtroom scene on the part of Cal, Mary returns for the first time in over a decade to her childhood home in Little Jump Off, North Carolina to complete unfinished business. Mary needs closure on the rape-murder of her beloved mother Martha twelve years ago. Accompanying Mary on her hiking trip is friends Alexandra McCrimmon and Joan Marchetti.

However, the camping sojourn turns dangerous as a local individual and Cal's brother attack the three women. As the violence against the trio of females increase, Mary and her cohorts know they must fight back to survive.

IN THE FOREST OF HARM is a distaff version of DELIVERANCE. The story line is exciting and the relationships between the three women is idealistically beautiful yet seemingly genuine. The two predators perform their attacks in a near perfect way as they try to trap their prey. However, those supermen like abilities of the two males add energy and action to a non-stop thriller that should make Sallie Bissell a household name.

Summary: SUSPENSE FROM COVER TO COVER!
Review: Mary Crow carries with her the turbulent memories of her childhood following the brutal rape and murder of her mother. However, Mary's tough spirit lives on and in adult years she becomes an assistant DA. After her sixth conviction, a man who committed rape and murder, Mary and two of her friends set out on a camping trip on Mary's old home turf, only to find they become the predators of two violent men. The story contained among these pages is filled with suspense and keeps the reader riveted to their seat from start to finish. Lock the doors, pull down the shades and turn up the lights; it is the type of book that will keep you reading well into the night.
