Rating: Summary: Not the best Brown, but OK Review: Riley in the Morning is a book about a married couple who has separated and spend a night together seven months after their separation reliving their past together. Riley has no idea why Brin has left him and shows up unannounced at a birthday party Brin is hostessing to find out why and to reconcile. During the party and for the whole night afterwards they spend time remembering how they met and fell in love and married. Different events happen that bring back memories. This is basically the whole plot of the book.Having read several of Ms. Brown's books I consider myself a fan. This book though is not one of the best I've read. Riley seems to be a real jerk until the end and Brin seems wimpish and not able to stand on her own. My favorite character is Stewart, the caterer. He definitely added life to the book during his scenes. I can't believe Ms. Brown would put into her book Riley calling Whitney a Dim Whit and her actually worshipping him. This seems a little belittling to women in my opinion. If you are looking for a quick read and a way to spend a quiet evening go ahead and read this book. It was entertaining (if a bit corny). And remember this was written and released sixteen years ago so it isn't as sophisticated as her current (new) releases.
Rating: Summary: I've Read This... Review: Thankfully I didn't buy this book, my mother in law lent it to me. But I'm reading it and thinking "I have read this" and sure enough, I checked the hardbacks publication date and notice it was published originally in 1985!! HATE THAT when they "repackage" books nad put them back out. The story was just "ok". The hero was kinda a jerk who makes you wonder "what does she see in him anyway", which never makes for a great book. Check out some of her other more recent works as she is a great author. This just is not her best (or most recent!!) work.
Rating: Summary: Audio book is terrible Review: The actress who read this book uses inappropriate tone of voice throughout -- most of the time she's sticky sweet, even when the characters are angry or frustrated. She ruined the book for me. It's hard to rate the story when the reading was so off. Having said that, I don't think even with a good reading, the story would've held up. It could've been really good but it needs some massaging and editing in order to be there.
Rating: Summary: Too much "pulp" Review: There is about zero plot to this..It is extremely "light" in nature. Writer is good at vocabulary and dialogue. But it is purely "sexual"-very- in nature..nothing else of substance to it.
Rating: Summary: Not Riley in the Morning, Riley all the time Review: This story started out with Riley and it was Riley all the way through. We went from his sudden appearance at the birthday party she was giving for a big shot (and after being separated for seven months) to his attempted reconciliation, all the way through the book. Her flash backs of how they met and married were cute. The story was almost typical Brown. First they were lovers, then married, then separated for along time and back together again for a happy ending. It's hard to imagine Riley calling someone Dim Whit and they would adore him. I thought the story had zero plot and not one character really grabs you. Maybe because there aren't many characters except Riley and Brin. This one was published in 1985 and is a reprint. It isn't new writing by Brown. Brown can write nice descriptive love scenes, but the overall story lacks suspense. It doesn't keep you enthused about turning the page because there was no doubt about what would happen at the end. I read the story in one evening. This is my third or fourth book by this author and I'm still not excited.
Rating: Summary: Good book, but not a new title Review: This was a cute, short read, but BEWARE. This book was originally published in 1985. So, some readers may buy this book not realizing that they read it previously.
Rating: Summary: Audio Book - Too Graphic Review: When I ordered this audio book I didn't even bother to look at the description of what it was about because I have bought all of Sandra Brown's audio books so I expected a good mystery. Instead it was love story - boring at that - and the audio book was very graphic. I normally give my mother all of my audio books but this was way to graphic. I felt like I was listening to a triple xxx audio book. From reading the previous reviews I now realize this book was written in 1985. I wish now I had taken the time to read the description before I bought it.
