Summary: The Color Purple
Review: This novel by Alice Walker is a most powerful portrayal of a woman and her struggle to survive. The Color Purple cannot be explained--it must be read to be appreciated. A truly awesome work. Never before have I fell in love with a novel so quickly.

Summary: This was an extremely intresting book!
Review: I am going to compliment Alice Walker on her wonderful thoughts of completing this book; yet, it did have many sexual graphics that a teacher shouldn't give out as an optional book and not explain what kind of words Alice Walker would be using in her book. This was one of the greatest books that I have ever read, because it showed a woman's courage from finding things that she has never seen before, and also because she went through a lot to get where she was at the end of the book. I would not give it to my 10 year old sister to read, but I would give it out to my friends so they could also experience the tears, the sorrow, the happiness, the burning fire (from being so angry from how she was treated), and the cries to her sister, because she can't tell her sister what is going on, the hurt in her life that is eating her up inside her precious soul. I passed around this book to many of my guy-friends and they were disgusted by the lesbian acts that she was doing with Shug Avery. Some of my female friends, loved this book, excluding the sexual graphics in certain sections. Overall, I loved this book and people needed to be showed this and read it because a lot of people go through sadness throughout their life where they have no one else to turn to. Celie made a powerful turn-around with Shug Avery. Yes, she found her love with a woman, but she felt loved and that's the most important theme in my idea in this book. So I loved it. And enjoyed most of it, except Nettie's letters. .which were confusing. .Anyway. .Please read it!

Summary: A great book!
Review: Even though i'm only 15, i still loved this book.
An early critic gave it a 3 for sexual content,
but hey, it's the truth, and you have to live with it. I am glad it is on my soph.
English Book list, so now i have a better realistic understanding of the hardships
of women and blacks in the south in the past.
it is a great book that i would recommend to anyone (over 10)

Summary: A strange and unusual novel
Review: As a feminist theorist, I thought this was a fine performance, but was somewhat disturbed to find that this book goes so easy on the white male bigots of the period. And it seems that Ms. Walker also desired in this book to denigrate BLACK men, as if affluent white women are the only women who truly understand BLACK men. Ms. Walker does not seem to like BLACK men very much, and this is troubling. But of course, this is a truly great novel, and an important one, that also includes the loving relationships of women with one another against the background of male cruelty.

Summary: I was so inspired...
Review: I was assigned to read this for a literature class in school. I put it off until the last minute but to my surprise was glued to it. I couldn't stop reading. I wanted to find out what would become of Celie. It's not the kind of novel you can just put down if you don't like (who wouldn't like it?). There are a lot of unaswered questions we the readers have throuhout the book. Read this if you want to read a strong, black woman's inspirtional story.

Summary: Been There, Done That, Bought The T-Shirt.
Review: "The Color Purple" is truly an extrodinary book. I Was very much moved by it. It was very compelling. Celie is really an outstanding character. I love the way she can see beauty and meaning in everything around her, even though half of us in the world wouldn't put up with what she went through. I for one could not put my book down, this is one of Alice Walkers finest pieces.

Summary: Fantastic Night Table Reading
Review: I read this book after I had seen the movie fifty or more times. The adage saying you should read the book first definitely holds true, but Spielberg remained fairly faithful to the book. What I liked most was the honesty breathing through the story of Celie and Nettie. Few people really know the South and the community which is written about, but in knowing it so well, Walker doesn't make the mistakes so many other writers do: She doesn't present the reader with a stereotype, she just presents the facts for the story. My vision was never clouded by her view of things, rather it was enhanced by what she noticed these characters telling her. I would recommend this novel for anyone, but those who are offended by honesty should stay away.

Summary: Emotional
Review: This book is wonderful, but while reading it you can get so emotionally caught up. It makes you think about how wonderful your life is.

Summary: Exceptional read, every female should discover this treasure
Review: Built around the context of the heated time in American history when one man was not equal to another simply because of his race and no female was equal in any realm, The Color Purple weaves a beautiful story of a African American woman.

Alice Walker breathes life into a young, poor, and ugly girl named Celie. Celie is an amazing character because while she has suffered more than most humans will in a life time, before she was twenty years old, she is not a victim. She is simply living her life, as she would live it any other way. She is simple yet complex, a deep character in a world of confusion.

The background and world that the story is told in reveals the time when whites ruled and blacks survived. The novel deals with racism at its core and prejudice as well, especially against women. This novel will never grow old, the story will always be fresh, because untill we have conquered racism, prejudice, and social injustice and created a world where all are free, black and white, male and female, there is a urgent need for this novel. It is as contemporary as when it was written and the message of this outstanding work is still as needed as always. This is something all of us, especially women, should take a look at.

Summary: A must read for all african american women!
Review: This is one of my top ten favorite books of all time! I can hardly wait for my daughter to come of age so I can pass it on to her! Celie is a true testament of perseverance, courage, faith and eventually triumph. Ms. Walker allows the reader to look at life through Celie's and the other characters eyes and share their experiences. I laughed when Celie laughed, cried when Celie cried and let out a big YES when Celie finally becomes her own person. Despite the public backlash from the movie, The Color Purple is a truly heartwarming story and should not be missed!
