Summary: Powerful in style, poignant in content
Review: The book touches the raw endings in your body, bringing about the realisation of what a world we live in and the existence of a world within this world. A world where color matters. The story of Celie from the dictates of submission for survival in the black time to the colors when she stands up to live her life brings about the Afro-American pathos. Is it true...is it something we too are living with? These questions are more than just questions. They are shocking statements that impact the reality of this wrteched thing called life.

Summary: Fresh ideas and Moving events.
Review: "The Color Purple" came as a shock to the system. It showed a deep insight into Afro-american life. In some ways it is possible to say the the issues it faced went beyond the normal conventions of racism and sexual abuse. The mixture of feelings as the characters grew and changed created associations with life today. It shows how life in its bassness has hardly changed. There as still conficts and still emotional tramas. Although personally I enjoyed this book I would have to say that it is more of a womans book than anything else. Just by scanning the reviews it became evident that the male readers seemed to find the book less enjoyable. But never the less it is a stunning book and one that deserves a second reading and many to follow after. The simplicity of the language and the direct descriptions of the situations which the main characters face, most of all Celie, create an easy access to most audiences. Never before have I read a book which address such important issues without feeling the need to leave the story. I know it's been said before but I really "Couldn't put it down."

Review: The Colour Purple was an astounding read - I felt for Celie, noticed the subtle Spiritual references and loved the style. Poetic, moving .....beautiful. Shug and Celie's relationship was a cry for happiness and a relief from the pain of Southern negro life -- wonderful!!! BACK TO THE ROOTS - THAT'S THE MESSAGE - FIND AND GET IN TOUCH WITH THE NATURAL , SPIRITUAL SIDE...OH, AND LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF!( BE UNPRETENTIOUS)

Summary: Alice Walkers magic with words captures both heart and soul.
Review: The Color Purple is the type of novel that only come around once every few years. Alice walker did more then make her characters come to life in the readers mind. She made them a part of the readers world. The inspration that one is able to obtain from this novel is a gift that once given will continue to give. Many issues are addressed in the novel, that society as a whole seeks desperatley to ignore. Alice Walker is to praised for her struggle to bring to the readers mind the things he has chosen to ignore. Readers and the world as a whole, know that social injustice exist, but ignore it. Authors like Alice Walker confont the reader and take away from him the imaginary world that he has built for himself. The real world is a hard place made harder for some by our self chosen ignorance of their conditions. This novel is a must for those that are ready to see the injustices of the world and the opperssion that plagues it, but most of all, those that want to change it staring with themselves.

Summary: Cool book
Review: Hi, I decided to read this book for school and it's great. If you haven't read this, I recommend you do. It's ... very good. :)

Summary: I LOVE this book. It's sad, beautiful, and even empowering
Review: I have always loved this book- I've read it four times. The reader from Columbia, South Carolina missed the point of the book. The sex in the beginning with her stepfather and Mr.___ is part of the tragedy and oppression in Celie's life. Shug is the first person aside from her sister who truly loves her. The sex Celie and Shug have demonstates that not everything can be oppressed. Mr.___ tried to control all of her life, but he couldn't control her heart. (And he can't control Shug) It's also part of her liberating herself from his oppression. This book is beautifully written, it's full of color, life and emotion.

Summary: A novel that touches the heart and opens the mind
Review: Alice Walker's literary work, The Color Purple is one of the greatest novels I have ever read. The themes of equality, power, self-acceptance, and self-discovery and are as prevelent today as they were when Celie grew up. Her character acts introverted and afraid in the beginning but she literally blossom into a strong and independent woman. In many ways, Celie, Nettie, Shug, and Sofia are representative of all women, sharing their dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Each character is three dimensional and very easy to relate to. This is not a book about sex as many criticize it, but rather about love and acceptance. It's a quick read yet its message lasts a lifetime.

Summary: This book was the best I have ever read.
Review: The color purple is a book that I read but already knew about because I watched the movie more than once, but when I read the book it gave me more details to the story. Everytime I seen the movie I found something new. But now that I have read the book I understand it better. I think that it is important for people to read this book, it is very heart-breacking. It isn't very normal for people to say they didn't like this book. It is very touching. Celie was this young girl who got raised where nobody cared what she did or who she was, and she thought she was ugly, and everybody would put her down. So what Celie did was get stronger, and defend herself. I strongly recomend this book too anybody and everybody who has not read this book. Its too bad, if you don't read something like The Color Purple. You just don't know what your missing.

Summary: This book is awful!
Review: All the book is about is sex, sex, sex! Celie and her father, Celie and Mr. _____, Mr, _____ and Shug, Celie and Shug, and Celie by herself. It's revolting! Why do they let this book be read in school, yet they won't show movies or other books b/c of their sexual content. It's a joke! The whole plot of the story stinks! It's been way overused my society. And people can say all they want about me only looking at the outside, and not the in-depth reading of the book, but they're wrong! I understood what the book was trying to say, but it could've been said without the sex. Even without the sex, though, the book is awful. It's about nothing at all, really. They say that it's about a black woman's struggle, but that's not true. It's about how a black woman fell in love with her husband's lover, who was also a black woman.

Summary: The book was okay, but the story's plot could've been better
Review: I had to read this book for 11th grade English class. I didn't choose to read this book, and I'm glad that I didn't. The plot of the book itself was okay, but it was kindof hard to follow at times and it got very boring. Also, if you want to talk about a novel that should be banned from schools, this one should be on that list. Some of the novel has to do with Celie's sexual relations with her "father," Mr. _____, Shug, and herself. I found that to be revolting! It doesn't add anything to the book, except for disgusting thoughts. That's what really turned me against the book. It could have been written without this junk in it. I believe that it would've been a better book if it had been. As for the plot, it was okay. The story itself is pretty self-explanatory: a young black woman growing up in the South. She is being heald down by the male figures in ger life. Yadda, yadda, yadda! This story has been used in so many books and movies; it's pathetic!
