The great influuences of man reveal the domination that is taking place. When Celie over comes the transition of being a slave to an indvidual in a very discreet manner. Summary: A story of a woman strugaling to find her own femininity
Review: I read this for english and I found it to be a colorfull and heart-felt story of a timid woman finding herself. She did so with the love and support of a woman who understood and loved her. With out this untraditional love affair Celie would have lived her life shadowed by fear and pain. It protrays two woman fighting for their love against all odds.

Summary: Pivotal Moments in Literature
Review: This book is one of the finest pieces of literature to be published in this century by one of the most gifted minds of our generation. The raw emotion of her writing enraptures the reader and offers a quality which is so lacking in many of today's contemporary authors - reality. This novel transfers deep emotions from the page to the reader so efficiently all else is soon forgotten as you delve into the lives of Celie. Yet it's done with such a simple and provocative manner, it leaves you hungering for more, and is sure to make an impact on young and old minds alike.

Summary: The Color Purple is one of the best books I've ever read.
Review: I am in the middle of the Color Purple right now and I can say that it is one of the most eye-opening and moving books I have ever read. I saw the movie first when I was about eight. Now I am sixteen and enjoying the book just as much if not much more. I really love how all the characters come alive while you read the book. This book opened my eyes to the hardships that black females had to go through farther than slavery. I want to thank Alice Walker for writing such a realistic and touching story of a black woman's struggle.

Summary: This is the greatest historical book I ever read.
Review: I think the way she expressed the girlsemotional thoughts were excellent. I can real understand her sorrow for loosing her mother and also having women in and out her house after her mother died.I think that if anyone had to go through this know they would absolute decide they would rather do with out. I really believe that if you put your all into life you should recieve so reconition. I believe that Mrs. Alice Walker put her all into writing this book. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!

Summary: The Color Purple
Review: The Color Purple, a novel by Alice Walker, tells the tale of Celie, an impoverished, barely literate woman living in the South, who struggles to escape the cruelty and degradation of her treatment by men in her life. The story is primarily told through Celie's letters, initially addressed to God and then to her sister Nettie. At first, I found the use of language, or lack thereof, of Celie, the narrator, to be ackward, difficult to read, and bothersome. Yet, as I progressed through the book, I found that it was this very vernacular that adds to the authenticity of the novel. The language chosen by Alice Walker tells a story in of itself, of the depravation of education of an intelligent woman who longed for it immensely. I found myself greatly enjoying this book due to the extremely colorful narrative and character development. Many of the thoughts and questions that Celie has are readily identified with, because they are quintessentially very human. The letters that Nettie writes to Celie, in my opinion, are very informative and interesting to read. Nettie's trip and adventures in Africa was very entertaining, yet Celie's journey through her mind, in an effort to discover her true self, is where the true greatness of this book lies. Although this novel is generally of extremely high quality, I did find some flaws. First, the men in the novel are depicted extremely negatively. One could argue that none of the characters are perfect, all having unforgivable flaws, yet it is very obvious that men are depicted very unfavorably. Also, I found the ending of the book did not fit and was far too giddy. It seems that Alice Walker, seeing that she was approaching the all too commonly magic mark of three hundred pages, decided to end the book on a happy, made-for-the-movies note.

Summary: It is an amazing novel
Review: It makes people realize the many things we take for granted. It is very realistic and shares with us the hardships they had to endure.

Summary: One of the BEST historical fiction novels i've ever read!
Review: Alice Walker focuses on the life of black women during a time when the african-american people, in general, were being "oppressed". She brings to light the fact that african-american men treated their women, like the slaves they were at that time, and the slaves they used to be. It is VERY detailed, and VERY well written. It uses letters from and to Celie to give You the feeling of being there. It's as though, Celie, the main character of the story, is writing to YOU. It really is a great book. If you like historical fiction and/or are interested in the studies of black women or women, in general, READ THIS BOOK!

Summary: I thought it was a very different type of story
Review: I read this book for an english book report. I found it disturbing with the incest, rape, turning to lesbianism. It was hard to follow, but the ending was alright. I really got annoyed at the Mr.______ though. I don't think I'd really recommend it.
