Rating: Summary: Perfect Representation Review: This novel is the perfect representation of the hardships in the past. This novel puts the hard ships INSIDE a race in the same category as conflict between races. Also the conflict of a woman searching for her sexuality, while being oppressed, is shown in the vivd colors of life.
Rating: Summary: Moving and passionate Review: It is hard not to be stirred by this book, which has quite understandably become a classic of American literature.Recounting the story of a black girl's hardships in the American world of prejudice, Alice Walker's "The Color Purple" presentings a moving story of love, hurt, trial, and growth. From the most simple of perspectives --that of a girl's journal-- it presents a masterful look at the philosophy, mentality, and psychology of an age. "The Color Purple" has become a classic of so-called 'Black Literature,' as well as a greatly honoured book within the feminist movement. Whether you are a member of either or not, this book is one you should want to read.
Rating: Summary: The not so Immigrant Novel Review: Alice Walker's, The Color Purple is a fascinating book of the struggle of black women, who were not only oppressed by white society but also oppressed by black males as well. In the beginning, readers find the main character, Celie, a virtual slave in her own family. Being raped at a young age by her father and losing her children which were sold to a family by the man who raped her. Celie finally breaks out of this bondage with the help of friends and with the found letters from her sister Nettie that Celie's husband had suppressed. Celie regains her self esteem and throws away the chains of her bondage, going on to become a succesful woman and reuniting with her long lost children. Rating: Summary: The book is excellent it makes the reader feel every emotion Review: This is an excellent read the book has all the things that many people look for when wanting to escape their own problems and become an onlooker of someone elses existence. Life can not be taken for granted as we go through the struggle that Celie must endure through the hands of Mr. You cry, laugh, shout, your disgusted and then your uplifted. The best quote I remember is when Celie finally has the courage to leave Mr. and the hell he had made for her. "I maybe black, I may be poor, I maybe a woman, and I may even be ugly! But thank God I'm here" I still hear those words ringing as she let the world know that she is no longer Mr. slave and beating post but she is ready to stake her claim in this world. It was finally her time to shine and all the emotions she felt I can feel that finally my children are home and my void if full. All the heartache and pain has been worth seeing their faces again. Alice your insight is great and thank-you for Celie, Sophia, Shug, and Nettie they will always be an inspiration.
Rating: Summary: The book was touching and memorable of a journey in life. Review: The Color Purple by Alice Walker is magnificent. The book takes off as it portrays the main character Celie a woman who endures the worst imaginable in life. The horror begins within her childhood home, her father rapes her and takes her true life away as he broke her away from her children and then never telling her he is her stepfather. This is a novel which is very articulate and emotional, it clearly displays strength, faith, and courage as Celie finds her inner soul. Then showing how Celie is reborn as a person after encountering Shug Avery a woman who is treated like a lady by her husband Albert within their own home. Shug visits and finds herself seeing the inner beauty in Celie which escalates into a loving and physical relationship amongst the two. Then their was Sophia who displayed a woman's power over her own destiny in a world of controlling men, until her own soul is taken by an unfortunate act of a racial incident. It is touching as Celie regains a childhood life when she is rejoined by her sister Hettie and her two adult children. This book was no fairy tale with the always happy ending, but one that takes a person from anger, hate, then to sympathy. I found this book to be mesmerizing and powerful, it is clearly put across. Thank You Alice Walker.

Rating: Summary: Through faith and love, Celie rises above injustices. Review: The story is written through the main character's, Celie, letters. This creates a powerful first person perspective that captivates the audience. The letters express Celie's thoughts and feelings and produce a vivid image of her personality, while actively presenting the events in the story. You find yourself getting more and more attached to Celie because you want to jump into the story to save her from all of the world's injustices. But through her own faith and the love she receives from others and herself, she rises above the downside of human nature and establishes a place in the world that no one can control but herself. If you are able to get through the first twenty pages and be comfortable with it, the rest of the book will not let you down.
Rating: Summary: DEEP AND RICH Review: This book was excellent! If you are mature enough to handle the content, then this book can provoke serious thought. It is also a fast read, so it is perfect for anyone who wants great literature in less than 300 pages!
