Rating: Summary: Good insight in the situation of black women Review: In my opinion the novel "The Color Purple" is a very good book. You get information about the situation of black women; how they were treated and where they stood in society. The book shows the situation very detailed and it was very interesting to read it. If somebody wanted to know more about the situation of black women he or she has to read this book. The film to this book is not good because the producer left out some important sections.
Rating: Summary: important and interesting novel Review: I think it is a very wonderful novel concerning the role of blacks and women. you learn something about this important topic and you really can feel the emotions of the actors. It is written in a very emotional way. After reading, you are thinking about the situation of Celie and you are trying to put yourself in the position of Celie. Besides, the relationship between Celie and Shug Avery is very exciting because Shug is the only one who gives her the feeling to be someone. And that helps her to stand the situation. To sum up, I think it was very interesting to read the color purple.
Rating: Summary: The Color Purple Review: The Color Purple is a nice story about a young black woman named Celie, who still learns how to love. Ironically the person who shows her love is Celie's husbands lover, Shug Avery. The only other person Celie loves is her sister Nettie, who is far away in Africa doing missionary work. They keep in touch through letters. Another help Celie gets, is a believe in God. But through Shug, Celie finds out who her true maker is. I really enjoyed this novel. I was consumed by the plot and engulfed by the characters. Alice Walker truly gave the novel a feeling of reality with her descriptions and the dialect. She also adds some humor to the novel so it is not just happy and sad. I recommend this novel to people 16 and over. There is some foul language and many references to sex, homosexuality, and rape. However, these are the elements that give the novel the impact it has on the reader. Overall, this book is extraordinary and everyone should make time to read it.
Rating: Summary: A fantastic book Review: I like this book very much. Normally I do not read very often books but I had to do it for the English lessons. Normally the books you read for the lessons are very boring, but this book was very exiting and dealt with a problem that is known in our society: The underpression of women and a homosexual relationship. Celie the main character in this book is treated very bad from her man. He rapes her and treat her on very violent way. Celie do not know what real love it because she was ever treated bad from other people. This changed when she gets to know the lover of her husband. She shows Celie how beatiful and valueable she is. A new exited live for Celie begins and the reader follow the story.
Rating: Summary: My opinion Review: The novel is a very great and serious book. I guess both the occuration of woman and the occuration of black people is showed well by Alice Walker. It seems to be realistic also because of the wrong language which is used there. I'm of the opinion that the subject of the exploitation of humen is demonstrated very well. There is a good choice of different characters who present the different thoughts and opinions which have been typical in former times. E.g. Sofia demonstrates a strong character, in contrast to Celie, which is the weak one. In conclusion the novel is very great and very meaningful for human rights.
Rating: Summary: title from steffi Review: I think that the book is better than the film because of the own creation of imagination and setting.Furthermore the reader is able to think about everithing while reading the novel. The actor Whoopi Goldberg is in my opinion the wrong choose of actor, because she is too beautiful to act Celies part. The seldom language is bad in the book, it creates the feeling not to like the book. The reader begins to think that some wrong words are right. But all in all it is okay to read that book.
Rating: Summary: The Color Purple Review: The Color Purple is a wonderful story about a young black woman named Celie, who, despite all her losses amd traumas, still learns how to love. Ironically the person who shows her love is Celie's husbands lover, Shug Avery. The only other person Celie loves is her sister Nettie, who is far away in Africa doing missionary work. They keep in touch through letters. Another struggle Celie comes across is a doubt in God. But through Shug, Celie finds out who her true maker is. I really enjoyed this novel. Rating: Summary: Always Blows Me Away Review: I first read this book in 1986, and then in 1991. I just read it again, and it blew me away once more. Each time I read it, I find something different. What struck me during this reading was Walker's ability to incorporate issues that seem to sit outside of the basic story but that actually relate to the main plot. For example, she mentions W.E.B. Dubois quickly, but his name reminds us how important his ideas were at the time the story is taking place. Also, the letters from Africa get us thinking about gender politics in a country so different from the United States. But are they so different from ours or are they simply expressed in a different way while still conveying the same message? Overall, I'm struck again and again by the richness of the story, by Walker's ability to create different layers of meaning throughout her narrative. I wonder what I'll find when I read it again a few years from now?
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books I have Ever Read Review: This book gives you strenght to keep finding a purpose to your life, Never give up!
Rating: Summary: The Color Purple - Beautiful book Review: Once I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. Trust me, you'll live Celie's life with her, you will feel her pain and hurt, later her joy and happiness and really become a part of her life. This book is a real heart toucher and eye opener. You'll truely love the characters as they come alive on the page. 5 stars Alice!
