Rating: Summary: the color purple Review: "The Color Purple," was one of the best books I read in a long time. I really don't care for reading books, but I must admit this novel had me hook. Not wanting to stop reading it, because of all the drama that was occuring in the novel. Alice Walker really made you feel as if you were part of the 1800's, for the simple fact the way she express the way "Celie" spoke since she didn't have much education. This novel is alot better than the movie. The movie leaves out so much that when you read the book it's even alot better. There is more details in the book that the movie left out. I really recommend this book. This book is not appropriate for younger children, there is alot of graphic parts in "The Color Purple."
Rating: Summary: The Color Purple Review: Over all I thought this book great. I loved how it explains the struggle for women back then and to think how far we have gotten since. The classic story of the struggle between women and man. I liked how the Alice Walker wrote to you so you were able to put yourself in Celie's shoes and better understand her situation. I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle the harsh truth of our past!

Rating: Summary: Review of the Color Purple Review: This book is about about a fourteen year old girl named Celie who goes through alot in this book. At the beginning of the book it starts off tragic for Celie. Both her brother and mother died. After that a man (a complete stranger) named Albert asks Celie's father for her hand in marriage even though he wanted her sister Nettie more than her. So, she goes and lives with him and basically she becomes his "slave". She cooks, cleans, and looks after his children. After so many years of being with her abusive husband (Albert) who beats her and trats her bad, Celie finally stands up to him and she walks out on him. Then after that Albert was basically a "mess". His house was a complete mess, his animals were never fed, and he always got drunk.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I loved this book. It really is like no other out there. If Walker had written this alone, her reputation would have been made. The glimpses into what life was like for these tortured souls has yet to be duplicated. Also recommended: BARK OF THE DOGWOOD by McCrae
Rating: Summary: magnificent Review: This is the most magnificent books I have read. Filled with sadness and turmoil, so full of truth....so determined. I came from a life of abuse (child). Though I have read mostly memoirs like NIGHTMARES ECHO, I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS and BEAUTY FOR ASHES to try and help aide in the healing process. I have found that this book COLOR PURPLE has also helped me in so many ways to understand the feelings that go on inside someone that comes from abuse. This is truly a page turner. So Magnificent.
Rating: Summary: A very realistic book Review: No matter how hard life is, you can always find solace in little pretty things, like the color purple, in a green field. This is the lesson Alice Walker's protagonist, Celie, taught me. Celie was raped by her 'father' and became a mother at the age of fourteen. Her father then gave away both of her children, telling her he had killed them, and married her off to a Mr. ____. Mr. ____ abused her because she was not his lover, Shug Avery. Instead of being jealous of one another, Celie and Shug developed a supportive, friendly, and at times sexual relationship. It was Shug that taught Celie not to be ashamed of herself, and to have the confidence to write to her sister Nettie in Africa instead of to God. Nettie had run away from home to escape their father's abuse, and had gone to Africa with missionaries that had unknowingly adopted Celie's children. Through this book, Walker makes the voice of a young black woman living in the early nineteenth century heard. She exposes her readers to the racist, abusive, and degrading atmosphere Celie lives her life in, and shows her readers how Celie finds true faith and peace in such horrible circumstances. The epistolary form of the book (written in the form of letters) exposes the points of view of many different characters. Celie's Southern black accent makes the atmosphere of the book even more realistic. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to explore the theme of personal strength, and battle against issues as diverse as racism, rape, finding oneself spiritually, and even lesbianism. Just be prepared for an emotional whirlwind with a very thought-provoking ending.
Rating: Summary: The color puprle Review: This book is a diary to god from a black girl Celie. She writes about her hard life and how she lives. She had gone through a lot since she was small and because of all the hardship, she couldn¡¦t even remember when was the last time she was happy or angry or just feel something. She just knew how to survive. But as she grows older and meets people who affect her life, she changes into a different person who becomes more confident, laugh, play and learns to love and forgive. I got this book from my school library and the title of the book attracted me. The title seemed like there was something deep behind it. So I just started to read it. At first I really couldn¡¦t understand what Celie was saying because she was writing in slangs and because she was a black girl who didn¡¦t finish school, she had some spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes, so when I was reading the first few pages I had to re read most of the pages. But soon, I got used to the slangs and the grammar mistakes. I really loved this book because I learned a lot from this book and it was a really touching book. I learned how black men used to treat their wives at home and I just learned what kind of life a black woman lived long ago. Also, it was a really touching book because you get to see how much Celie change and how her life was so hard and challenging, but as she changes you get to see how her life changes with her. Alice Walker the author wrote the book in a way where you can feel Celie and feel like her friend at the end of the book. I really enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it to any teenage girls.
Rating: Summary: Great Slang, Great Book Review: I like the slang. As a Malaysian, we have a lot of local slangs from the Malays, Chinese and Indians. To discover African American slang is a delightful experience, especially written ones. Alice Walker managed to charm me with the storyline. A good, empowering and powerful drama
