Summary: A good quick read where you really feel for the characters.
Review: This book was a good read although quick. The writing style gets you to feel for the characters from the first three chapters. This will draw you in until the very last page. I think it could have been longer and a bit more complex. The author could have elaborated on each of the main characters in more depth. This book was entertaining.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Trite story, cliche characters
Review: This book was recommmended by a book store employee, so I was expecting a good read. The story was not well developed (even flawed), and while not predictable, it was rather trite. Cliche characters -- a bulemic dancer, an aging independent woman and a single mom obsessed with her baby -- come together, but don't seem to get very far.

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Review: This was an incredibly quick and enjoyable read. I really cared about the characters and their lives. Matson's style reminded me of Anne Tyler's. I wish the book was longer--I didn't want it to end.

Summary: Oh how I miss my FRIENDS already!
Review: What a wonderfully written story of three women that are woven together. Matson is a gifted author who makes us feel her characters emotion. I laughed, cried and wanted more at the end. I feel that they are among my own circle of friends and I will miss them greatly. A easy to read yet still makes you think. A perfect summer book!

Summary: Women learning to befriend one another: Easy reading.
Review: While The Hunger Moon does not compete with the striking characters of Where the Heart Is or Ellen Foster, Matson presents realistic characters who reach outside their comfort zone and find reward in it. Not verbose, the reader does not have to wade through pages of picuayne details as in In Dark Water or Jewel. A good stress-breaker.
