Summary: Love will come along again -- some Sunday.
Review: I loved it! When I read it, I did not read the jacket cover so I was not aware that it was the sequel to "Butterscotch Blues." "Some Sunday" was a great book and can definitely stand alone.

The story of Sandy Hutchinson and her friends was a touching, moving story of love, hurt, disappointment, and regrets, but most of all, it was about love.

Sandy went to great lengths for her husband who died of AIDS. Now she is trying to cope with life and what she needs to do to go on. Her brother-in-law, who can pass as her husband's twin, has feelings for her. Sandy in her loneliness turns to Winston, but realizes that nothing can truly develop from a relationship.

One day, Sandy's life indeed takes a turn when she goes to her basement and realizes that repair work is needed. She hires the carpenter her father recommends and her life changes on that day. However, the changes are not easy. Sandy and Randall have issues that need to be worked out -- issues that cannot be hammered out by nailing up a board. Sandy's and Randall's lives change with the development of their feelings for each other.

Also, in "Some Sunday" Sandy's friends' lives are also changing. Janice has to deal with her insecurity involving relationships. Britney, big, bold and beautiful in her own way and to Maurice, seems to have found the perfect man and husband, one who wants to give her everything in life. However, Britney wakes up one morning and realizes that life is not all it appears to be and that the garbage will pile up if not taken out. Martha also has to deal with what life has to offer and wait for it, not try to force the man, who wants to be in her life.

All the girls have to realize that love is available and if they only wait that "Some Sunday" their lives will truly change and for the better.

Summary: Great read!
Review: I purchased this book when it hit the shelves, I just finished it tonight. I held off reading it because at the end of Butterscotch Blues, I was in tears. At the end of Some Sunday, I was smiling and rejoicing, and mad because I waited so long to read it. It portrays real sisters, with solid - to the bone- friendships. The men are strong, honest, and loving. I await Ms. Johnson-Hodge's next book, and this time, it will not sit on the shelf. I applaud her for allowing us a look at a disease, that is devastating our people, in a way that encourages us to open our minds, and maybe our hearts to its victims. Thank you Ms. Johnson-Hodge.

Summary: Excellent...
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I am so glad that Sandy was able to find love due to all of her suffering and disappointments. Poor Janice, she did'nt know how to love that is why she had so many problems in her life with her lovers, she did'nt know how to express herself because she did'nt know herself due to the up bringing and all that went on during her tender years. Brittney, well, she realized that Maurice was her blessing, but the harsh words from Sandy, Brittney discovered that she can make decisions and follow them through, not only that, but when she and Maurice had financial problems, it was she that stepped out and made ends meet. She finally realized her potential and her ability to lead instead of follow for the rest of her life. Now Margaret, she too had disappointments, but she was able to do something about her set backs or should I say addition.I hope that Winston found the love that he deserved in his life, and Cliff, I guess he and Rachel became an item. I only hope that it worked out for them. All in all,I really enjoyed this book, it was entertaining, and very real to life. I just can't wait until the next book comes out...

Summary: Bravo MJH, You did it again!!!
Review: I so enjoyed this book. I was so happy to hear it would pick up where Butterscotch Blues left off, I put every other book away. Love and Friendship can be some powerful things, I'm just glad that True Love and True Friendship can bring people through some amazing things. I cherished the friendship of Sandy, Martha, Britney and Janice the first time around and even more this time. It just goes to show that the slightest thing can take you over the edge......
I had my issues with the Wint and Randall situation, but it worked out for the best.
Good luck in your future endeavors.....I look forward to more work by you. For those who read Butterscotch Blues this is a must read, but if you haven't, read Butterscotch Blues and then Some Sunday, they go hand in hand. Your life isn't complete if you haven't tried Margaret Johnson-Hodge.

Summary: Real good sequel
Review: If anyone read "Butterscotch Blues", I think we can all agree that we kind of hoped that a sequel will follow, and Ms.Johnson-Hodge didn't disappoint us with the sequel "Some Sunday". Personally, I have no problems with the writing style, the story line, the way it ended, none of that. Only problem I had is with the attitude with Sandy, and some others in the book. Now, I understand Sandy for feeling the way she did, after all she went through a major life change(really two if you count her wedding not that long before Adrian's death). And she felt that some of the ladies attitudes were not right. OK. Brittney shouldn't had gotten in the middle of Sandy and Randall's issue, and bottom line,Sometimes, I wanted to smack Janice for her issues, but in all relationships, we may love the person, but hate what they do. (Any witnesses here?) Other than that, it is one great book. Didn't take me long to read. Easy and enjoyable.

Summary: Awesome Read
Review: In Butter Scotch blues we met Sandy, Martha, Britney and Janice. As we know in Butter Scotch Blues Sandy lost her husband Adrian from AIDS it was a powerful kind of hurting that left her wary of ever loving again. Sandy's Feelings are re-awakened by Adrian's brother Winston right when Sandy thinks she's going to loose it in walks Randall a contractor who remodels her basement who also renovates her heart.

Martha Britney, and Janice are all going through changes Martha being a (ADA) assistant District Attorney she met a guy who can mke her dreams come true if she doesn't push to hard because she wants to live hapily ever after.

Britney being a big Women in size but also a loving new mother.
Britney was always different from her friends when she married Maurice and started living the life that she really wanted there comes a sudden change when work start to slow down for Maurice.

Janice is a whole different story from the rest of her friends she wants so mch and tries to hard to get it instead of just taking things slow and put her trust in herself and the man that she loves she would have been alright. She drives herself crazy and just can't take it anymore.

If you loved Butter Scotch Blues you will definitely love Some n Sunday this is an excellent book. Some Sunday really shows the real meaning about the importance of having outside support as well as support from family and friends. Some Sunday will definitely hold up a good discussion for any book club.

Blessing goes out to Margaret Johnson-Hodges.

Summary: Beautiful story
Review: In New York City, Sandy deeply grieves the death of her beloved husband who succumbed to AIDS. As Sandy struggles to regain her equilibrium, she finds solace in a safe relationship with her brother-in-law before testing the deeper rapids with a contractor.

While Sandy toils with finding a reason to live, her best friends also struggle with life. In the courtroom Martha the assistant DA is a grandmaster, but her personal life consists of alcohol and the drudgery of trying not to lose her lover. Insecure Janice goads her fiancé into returning to the arms of his previous lover. Britney seemingly has it all with her wonderful husband and baby, but she is pregnant and along with her spouse nearly bankrupt by emulating the rich on a middle class income.

The sequel to BUTTERSCOTCH BLUES, SOME SUNDAY uses vignettes starring the four women to provide insight into a wide range of problems confronting African-American females though the issues seem more universal.

The four female friends emotionally support one another as each one skirmishes with different problems and stress. Margaret Johnson-Hodge shows she is quite an author with this deep look into the darker side of the modern American dream that can only be brightened through friendship and caring relationships.

Summary: Beautifully Poignant!
Review: In this beautiful sequel to Butterscotch Blues, Hodge's Some Sunday continues
the story of Sandy Hutchinson, who after losing her soul mate Adrian to AIDS,
decides that she doesn't want or need love and basically becomes a recluse, much
to the chagrin of her best friends, Martha, Britney, and Janice.

Sandy's well-hidden desire begins to emerge when she spends time with Winston,
Adrian's brother, who bares an eerie resemblance to Adrian. Sandy and Winston's
easy, "friendship" love becomes unstable when Sandy hires Randall, a contractor,
to repair her basement...and in the process, he attempts to repair her heart.

This novel is so wonderfully written that I clung to the book, reading it in one
sitting. The friendships between Sandy, and her sisterfriends were so real, painful
yet real, and the storyline was full of angst, drama, love, laughter, and that
underlying theme that life goes on, and we all deserve love.

Hodge should be applauded for writing such a touching story that celebrates life and
showcases slightly older, mature people as they go through the adversities of life.
