Rating: Summary: Am I missing something? Review: I am a born again Christian who loves the Lord very much. However, this book is very syrupy. I do believe in complete transformation of a believer, but the portrayal of the charachters after the Spirit took hold was a bit much. The sudden quoting of scripture and the complete change in behavior is not what we see in new believers today. To portray a new believer in such a way, is to deceive seekers into thinking that as soon as you turn your life over to Christ, you will be a walking Bible, able to answer any question about the Lord that someone may ask you and that life will be great. I did not care for this book at all.
Rating: Summary: Breath taking!! Review: This book took my breath away!! It reached deep down in my soul and shook loose the dreamer in me! I wanted to step into this story and help the characters. I wanted to know these childern, and witness their new found love for Jesus first hand. The main character's pain was so real and desperate. The author brings the village people into the readers lives in such a beautiful haunting way you feel apart of them. I couldn't put the book down, then when I finished it I felt lonely. You will love this book!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It was a beautifully written book about love compassion Review: It was a beautifully written novel about love compassion and the search for the truth of god.
Rating: Summary: Different - You won't want to put it down. Review: Nothing about the title and book on the cover made me want to rush out and read this book, but once I started, it was a hard one to put down. The spiritual attack and hardships on the land open your eyes to everyday spiritual battles. She does a great job of connecting all the characters by the end. It was the best Francine River book I have read since the 'Mark of the Lion' series.
Rating: Summary: A Moving Read Review: I've read all of the Francine Rivers books since the Mark of the Lion and most of them have touched me profoundly. This book probably most of all. It sat on my shelf for quite a while then I picked it up and read straight through in one evening only stopping to wipe my eyes as I bawled through the book. I felt totally connected to Cadi and her struggle with her mother. This is beautifully written and expressed. I highly recommend this author.
Rating: Summary: Good, but... Review: Overall I would say that this is a well written book, but there were some parts that bothered me. I thought the author gave a good feeling for the place and time of the story and the theology behind the story was sound. But, the charaters were a little too underdeveloped, I never became emotionally involved in their struggles. The main thing that bothered me though, was the fact that the main character, a young uneducated girl, is quoting word for word from the Bible, the King James Version no less, after being told the gospel . Kind of implausable.
Rating: Summary: This book takes you to a place where no one has gone before. Review: Excellent historical information and great characters makes this one of Francine Rivers best novels. The plot moves with intensity with profound truths revealed throughout. Although this book is not a short novel I was so immersed in the plot that when I made myself put it down to take care of the matters of life, I promptly picked it up and continued. Even if you've never read any of Ms. Rivers other excellent books, this is a must for everyone.
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down!!! Review: I have not been as excited about a book in a very long time as I have been about this one. This is my first time reading a Francine Rivers book, and I am surely going to read all of the books she has written! This was such an inspired story, and I felt so many emotions as I read it. At times I believed I could actually hear the characters' voices, and their passion and excitement about accepting Christ. Thank you, Ms. Rivers, for such a treat.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful & exciting reminder of Christ's great sacrifice. Review: My husband and I just finished reading this aloud to each other. The book is full of incredible metaphors about the ulimate sacrifice that Christ made for us, He who knew no sin. It is a beautiful and exciting story, reminding us why we need salvation now, and has something relevant to all cultures of the world. The custom of a "sin eater" is from Scotland and Wales, and so well expressed in its emptiness that I found myself seeing the idea of a "sin eater" in many world religions, as well in our unbelieving rationalizing of our goodness and the way to heaven. Francine Rivers spins a tale that will keep readers turning the page, weeping at Cadi's pain and rejoicing when she finds her freedom in Christ. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best books I have ever read. Review: I have never read anything so beautiful. Francine Rivers is so inspiring in her words, and I could hardly put the book down when I picked it up. It is an ideal book for young Christians, and a book that will open up hearts to the wonder and love of the Lord. There is a wonderful plot, beautiful characters, and a lesson in the end that blew me away.
