Rating: Summary: Yawn.... Review: Is is just me or is Deneen one boring individual. I've only read the first 43 pages but I am just so turned off by how this woman went on a trip with a man who didn't want her and always ends up "pleasing" herself all the time. She strikes me as a woman who is mad at the world just because she is overweight and can't get a man. I can't get into this book at all. Maybe I'll try to read it again if it's the last thing I have laying around the house.
Rating: Summary: Sharp-edged humor, wry parody. . . Review: My week off work has been spent with my nose buried in novels. Out of the six I've plowed through this week (all by Black authors) All American Dream Dolls is my favorite. It reminds me a bit of "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb, except Deneen has soul, a sharp wit, and a way with words. I admit the first 40 or so pages left me wondering "What the hell?" But the real fun began when she was fully ensconsed in her mother's house, and was fully aware of her state of mind (totally crazy). I laughed out loud more than once, and also found myself completely relating to ole girl! David Haynes accurately writes from Deneen's point of view, that of a woman who needs a little time out from the world, and finds it in snack foods, hot sex, and hair-do's. I've got other books by the author, but this one, by far, is my favorite. It's one of the books you can give to friends at Christmas - if they have the sense of humor and wit to "get" this novel, that is. KUDOS!

Rating: Summary: It's a keeper. Not a sleeper. Review: Once I got a chance to read at length the charcaters were very interesting. I would have loved to hear more about Mark. Deneen reminded me of my (crazy) self. Her mother was hilarous. Looking to read more from the author. He had Deneen talking like a sister. Even though he is a brother. Thanks for a good read.
Rating: Summary: HAYNES' DREAM DOLLS: ALLY MCBEAL MEETS A BLACK J.D. SALINGER Review: This book is one of those surprise reading experiences. Begun with very little expectations to speak of, I soon found myself on a fast-paced, no-holds-barred adventure to . . .In the crazy 1990s Haynes' Deneen is a heroine for single working women all over . . . Exhale, and get your s@*! together! This story is at once hilarious and wise. Pass it on . . . KDP Toronto, Ontario
Rating: Summary: BORING!!!!!BORING!!!!! Review: This is the worst book I have ever readed. His female character has no sense of direction. No spirit whatsoever for a black women. She was stupid first of all. Number 1: She went on a trip with a man who just told her that he might like MAN. Number 2: She still went on the trip, slept in the same bed with him, spend her own money. Number 3: She, then had the nerve to run home to MOMMY and steal from her own Mother. She felt sorry for herself, because of this jerk. Why not stay at home and feel sorry for herself there. Why take all that junk and dump it own her MOTHER & sister whom she betray that she did not like or know anything about them. She made me mad talk to herself all the time. I feel that this author need his but kick for writing something like this. Number 4: His character walk around the house not washing her body, not combing her hair. Just nasty. Just plan old nasty, no morale no self-respect nothing for a black women. I don't know where he got his ideal about black women, but he was shooting in the wrong direction. He need to back-up and rejust his thinking. Because a BLACK WOMEN would not let this happen. She would have told that jerk to pull over or take her back home after she curse the SOB out. And then would have taken the vacation by her DAMN self. Have a great time and then go back to work, and get on with her life. This author is lost. He will never understand a black women mind. He need to go back home and ask his wife or his mother about a black women self-respect. Or he could have ask his sister.
Rating: Summary: Total Waste of brain energy Review: To make a long story short (like this book should have done) this novel lacks fire. The characters are predictable and the story line is boring.
