Summary: A strong premise but not a great book
Review: What if a teenage lover dies tragically? What if the haunting memory of "coulda, shoulda" has plagued you for over 20 years? And what if, someone appears in your life with the same name, similar interests, and personality traits of that long, lost love? Meet Louise Harrington, an admissions coordinator at Columbia, who believes her deceased childhood sweetheart serendipitiously has returned to her. Sounds like the making of a fabulous book, right? WRONG!!! Schulman rambles page after page with trivial details, yet the characters never become three-dimensional. The protagonist's ex-husband, Peter, has issues of his own which never get addressed. Throw in Louise's troubled brother Sammy and her dysfunctional relationship with her mother, and the humor and irony which should be apparent, never really appear. It should have been a prolific read, but it was just OK.
