Summary: A well written novel that protrays life in the 1900's.
Review: As I read this book It made me feel as if I knew the family and what life was like for a struggling family in the 1900's. The characters seemed realistic. The book was well written and very descriptive. I especially enjoy reading books about the past, and I hope to read more from this author.

Summary: The Judd Family Story
Review: I found this book of The Judd Family very interesting. It showed how families survived and what life was all about in the 1900's. I would recommend reading all of the excitement and sorrow that happened to this family. It was a well written and unforgetable story.

Summary: a story of three generations of a family.
Review: the family is a story of a woman who stays with a husband who is abusive an also alcoholic. with all the heartache she endures, she never falters in her love for this man. a protective mother of her children, the two sons and two daughters, she manages to keep the family together despite all odds. the two sons have a dream of becoming major league baseball players and with persistance one of them realizes his dream. one daughter becomes involved in the bootlegging world during the roaring twenties era. this leads to an unforseen tragedy that almost shatters the family. a saga of three generations, their dreams and failures, augumented by a father, who provides no help to the mother who gives so much of herself. this is a true story told to me by my dad (one of the sons). the book has been well received in my hometown. comments are," I feel I know these people." and, " a big story encased in a small book." This pleases this old gal to say the least. I thank anyone who buys my book. I remain a grandmother with a smiley face.

Summary: The Family
Review: The Judd family saga is a story that will inform you, captivate you and make you laugh at times. The trials and tribulations of a midwestern family's growth through several generations gives a realistic portrayal of typical rural life in America. Doris Burke's writing is comparable to that of Frank McCourt and if you enjoyed Angela's Ashes this should definately be your next read.
