Rating: Summary: Feel good book!! Definitely a keeper!! Review: After Annie's Song, Simply Love and Keegan's Lady, I thought that I have read all of Catherine Anderson's wonderful books, but I spoke too soon. The way "Only By Your Touch" was written will keep you enthralled till the end. The book itself was magical, and you do feel "touched" even after the final page.
Rating: Summary: delightful second chance at love tale Review: At thirty Chloe Evans feels old as she recovers from a nasty divorce although she tries to hide the ugliness from her preadolescent son Jeremy. To give the asthmatic Jeremy a fresh start, Chloe moves them to the resort town Jack Pine in Oregon where she takes a position as a police dispatcher.Jeremy's Golden Retriever puppy becomes very ill, but money is tight so a vet seems out of the question. Though dangerous rumors abound about local outcast former veterinarian Dr. Ben Longtree, a desperate Jeremy also learns of his magical healing touch. The child carries his beloved dog so that the pariah can treat him. Ben does not want any visitors especially since he illegally provides medical treatment to wild animals, but he cannot resist the lad or his dog. Chloe and Ben become acquainted and soon fall in love through the efforts of her matchmaking child. However, Deputy Bobby Lee Shuck has a new reason to harass and destroy the man he always hated as he wants to bed the newcomer anyway he can even though Chloe says no. ONLY BY YOUR TOUCH is an exciting rural contemporary romance that stars two charming lead protagonists whose emotional past and present demons are healed by each other. The secondary cast, especially her son, the law enforcement officials, and the animals provide different layers of depth. Shuck fails to have a redeeming quality as he even sinks low enough to threaten Jeremy to gain what he wants. Still, Catherine Anderson shows her deft touch with a delightful second chance at love tale. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Satisfying. Review: Catherine Anderson is a focused author. I welcome her stories; they have a satisfaction guarantee. This lady engrosses her reader with mesmerizing technique and here she triumphs. This is a gentle story about a very special man with a unique gift -- the gift to heal, and the remarkable woman who brings fulfillment to his lonely life. Ben Longtree accepts his Shoshone heritage but ignores his special skill when healing and protecting the animals on his mountain ridge. His therapeutic ability may be unique and miraculous but it has brought him nothing but heartache and rejection. The town's people recognize Ben Longtree as an unusual man and, thus, choose to ostracize him. Chloe Evans is moving on with her life. A gruesome turn of events has turned her once happy marriage into a nightmare. Now divorced, Chloe, safeguarding her young son, has decided a fresh beginning can be found in the quiet mountain town of Jack Pine, Oregon. Chloe's fresh beginning throws her onto Ben Longtree's isolated track. The results -- a lovely story. Catherine Anderson has the gift of description. The reader tramps in the robust wilderness found in the state of Oregon, the scent of pine and the crush of fallen leaves are genuine. This author can hold my interest and this is the reason I buy her books. A luring novel from the first page to the last word. Continue writing, Catherine Anderson! Grace Atkinson, Ontario - Canada.

Rating: Summary: Just a touch of magic. Review: Chloe Evans and her six-year-old son Jeremy both have wounds that need healing, as they move to the small Oregon town of Jack Pine and away from the city where Chloe's former husband harassed them constantly. With a new dispatcher's job at the county sheriff's office, plus plenty of hope and courage, the young woman sets out to make a new and safe life for her son. Starting with getting him the puppy he's always wanted, even though she knows they can barely afford the extra expense of its care. The puppy promptly comes down with parvovirus, and the local vet wants a substantial deposit before beginning treatment. Even then, it's probably hopeless. But that's a word that neither Chloe nor Jeremy is good at hearing - and just before the puppy becomes ill, Chloe literally bumps into the town's other vet at the feed store. The other vet, who's licensed but no longer in practice, is a part-Shoshone who lives on isolated Cinnamon Ridge with his dementia-afflicted mother and a wolf-dog named Diablo. Which frightens Chloe and Jeremy more, the (apparently) aptly named Diablo or his owner, Ben Longtree, it's hard to say at first. But Longtree is the only person who may possibly be able to save Jeremy's new pet - so up Cinnamon Ridge the little boy goes. After which his mother has no choice but to follow. I am not a reader of contemporary romances. This one, though, pulled me in with its characters and proceeded to hold me rapt until I'd finished their story. Jack Pine is not the refuge Chloe thought it would be, as a new danger stalks her even in the supposed safety of the sheriff's office; and Ben Longtree is a complex and fully realized character who, we discover as the tale unfolds, needs Chloe and Jeremy every bit as much as they need him. A fine read, featuring spicy love scenes and realistic handling for all three generations of its characters. And with just a touch of magic, too - courtesy of Ben's Shoshone heritage, which the author not-so-coincidentally shares.
Rating: Summary: A keeper... Review: Chloe Evans and her small son, Jeremy, have been through Hell. Now on the way back, she is trying to start life anew in a small town with a job as a police dispatcher. They are even fortunate enough to find a tiny puppy abandoned and needing love as much as they need something to love. Then, even that might be taken from Jeremy. The puppy has Paarvo, and the vet will only work on him if Chloe can pay three hundred dollars up front. Jeremey has inherited his mother's kind heart and strong backbone. Knowing that the stranger they met in the grocery store, Ben Longtree, has a talent for healing, Jeremy takes the puppy in search of a miracle only the half Indian man can provide. At first, Ben is reluctant to help; it could lead to his facing criminal charges if his secrets come to light. However, faced with a small child on the verge of a broken heart, and a pup needing his help so badly, Ben relents to work his own special magic on Rowdy. When Chloe appears, breathing fire and afraid for her son, Ben and Chloe's relationship is off to a shakey, and heated start. When, however, they decide to give each other a second chance, both of them have the chance to heal the wounds their hearts have hidden. Yet, they might not get the opportunity to experience the love waiting if a mutual enemy has his way. ***** Catherine Anderson's novels are always ones that are assured of a place on the keeper shelf. She never fails to fit broken hearts together into one piece, revealing the miracle of love.
Rating: Summary: A poignant tale that will hook you from page one.... Review: Chloe Evans has been to hell and back and has relocated with her son, Jeremy, to Jack Pine, Oregon. Leaving her husband, whom, after an accident turned into an abusive man she didn't recognize, Chloe wanted the bring Jeremey the security of being safe. She felt that life in a small town would be exactly what Jeremey needed. When her son begs her for a puppy, Chloe doesn't have to heart to turn him down. When Jeremy's puppy gets sick and the vet it unwilling to treat him without the money up front, Jeremy takes Rowdy to the town outcast, Ben Longtree who is a vet, but unable to practice. Soon, Chloe finds herself entangled in Ben's enchanting world on Cinnamon Ridge. With a wolf and a mountain lion for pets, Chloe has never met anyone like Ben, and for a reason she can't begin to define, she feels safe in his presence and trust him with her son's safety. Ben Longtree loves the solitude of Cinnamon Ridge. When it is envaded by a six year old boy, Ben tries to turn him away. His annoyance quickly turns acceptance and he soon finds himself impressed by the young boy who would stand up to who people in town believe is a cold-blooded murderer. Ben's world shifts when Chloe and Jeremy start spending more time in the ridge and Ben experiences the magic of love. He is wary, however, for there is more than one person who would happily destroy his life. Always having a gift with animals, Ben can't turn away the wounded that turn up on his property. From owls to skunks to bears, Ben will not turn one animal away, even if it means spending the rest of his life in jail. The more he gets to know Chloe, and the more he feels himself falling in love, the more he wants to tell her all his secrets. There is evil lurking though, evil that both Ben and Chloe underestimated. Catherine Anderson weaves an emotional read in Only by Your Touch. Reading about Chloe learning to trust and letting go of her fear of men and Ben learning to trust in love again will almost have you in tears. Even Jermey's remarkable recovery will pull your heartstrings. You won't regret reading this book!
Rating: Summary: Can't put it down! Review: I absolutely love Catherine Anderson and this is one of her best books. Rarely do I find a book now that keeps me up all night but this one did. I just had to finish it. The characters are wonderful. You will be hooked from the first page. Ben Longtree is the sensitive, rugged male we've all been looking for. Chloe has come from a bad marriage with a sickly son who has sworn to never trust men again. Sound familiar? But Catherine Anderson has chosen her male character well. Ben is part Shosone Indian who is also a vet who has a certain "magic" to him. I won't spoil it for you. The other reviews describe the contents well. If you read only one book this summer, this better be it!
Rating: Summary: Feel good book!! Definitely a keeper!! Review: I bought this book based on a synopsis and am very glad I did. This is my favorite kind of romance: stong hero and equally strong heroine who both change for the better thanks to their developing relationship. I loved the book so much that I went on to read all her others. She is a wonderful author and well worth reading.
