Rating: Summary: Book hunting? This one's a keeper! Review: As my first taste of a Jennifer Crusie book, I think I ordered well. While not a book for those who enjoy stories that require heavy brain use, readers of all types can gain pleasure from this book. For the serious in you, Manhunting touches on commitment and career issues. For the practical person, the orderly list-making and the perfecting art of finding a suitable mate will appeal. But most importantly, for the romantic reader, Manhunting will have you climbing up the wall with anticipation -- like any good romance book should.Kate Svenson has what she thinks any woman would want: beauty, money, a successful career, and an apartment full of French Provincial furniture. Unfortunately, she also has too much time and lonliness on her hands. Tired of the single life, Kate and her best friend, Jessie, come up with the plan to beat all plans. Thus begins Kate's search for the perfect man. Armed with her list of qualifications (tall, distinguised and successful), Kate heads to Toby's Corner, Kentucky, home of The Cabins Resort and vertical golf -- a magnetic haven for the suave businessmen of Kate's desire. Well, it started out a good plan... Within the first few days of her arrival, Kate has managed to attract men that meet her requirements but with disastrous results. The only thing decent out of the whole trip? The two new friendships she's made: Penny, gorgeous and engaged, who feels she needs to do a little harmless dating before she's tied down for good, and Jake, the rugged resort handyman and exact opposite of the man of her dreams. Hopeless and exhausted, Kate is on the verge of giving up. But wait...is there a light at the end of this tunnel after all? Manhunting is a delicious romp of a novel, full of sexual tension and too much pride. And while readers can guess the ending before cracking the spine on this book, it does not deter whatsoever from the sheer pleasure of reading. Contains writing that veers toward inexperienced during the first few chapters, but soon Jennifer Crusie hits her groove and takes off like a woman on a mission. Excellent debut from an author worth reading again.
Rating: Summary: The Bermuda Triangle *snerk* Review: I *love* Jennifer Crusie's books! This one was a great story that actually made me laugh out loud several times. Her characters are so fun, and you can't help but love them. Once again the story line was a good one and the ending left the reader feeling complete.
I don't think Ms Crusie will be able to write fast enough to keep me happy, I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Manhunting Review: I have read and enjoyed many of Jennifer Crusie's books so I decided to go back and read some of hr earlier works and I must say that I was disappointed with 'MANHUNTING'. This is the story of Kate who has been single for as long as her best friend can rmember so she manages to convince Kate that a vacation to a Kentucky resort (where many single and eligible men just so happen to frequent) is just what the doctor ordered. While a tad bit skeptical about the trip Kate decides that a vacation couldn't hurt and takes off for Kentucky. While there she meets a host of men all of whom she manages to maul, offend or out right attack at some point during her stay. The only man with whom she has not had a bad experience with at the resort is Jake the grouns keeper (and co-owner) of the hotel. Jake is handsome, scruffy and all wrong for Kate. Despite the fact that they both belive that there could never be anyting romantic between the two of them they seem to turn to each other for comfort and solace in the midst of a busy, hormone ridden resort. But could Kate really give up everything she has worked so hard for to live the simple life, or could Jake give up the life of simplicity that he has come to love to go back to the hustle and bustle of city life?
I found 'MANhUNITNG' to be a bit generic and had none of the humor or quirky characters that I have come to know and love from Crusie. While the book was mildly entertaining I would sooner recommend 'FAKING IT' or 'BET ME' also by Crusie.
Rating: Summary: I threw this one in the trash... Review: I was introduced to Jennifer Crusie in Welcome to Temptation and loved it. I had to have more of her writing. Went on to Fast Women and loved that one also. This one, Manhunting, I thought was so awful I had to force myself to finish it. I found it incredibly weak. I'm grateful I first started with the first two mentioned books.
Rating: Summary: love this book Review: I'm a huge jennifer crusie fan, loved this book- BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: One of her best Review: I'm surprised by some of the reviews I've read where they liked (or loved) the author in general but didn't care as much for this story. Along with Crazy for You, Bet Me and Welcome to Temptation this is one of my favorites of Ms. Crusie's novels. Very witty dialog had me laughing out loud. Wasn't much of a plot, but the characters are so vivid and the book's value rests on the interactions between them. If you want a funny, light-hearted story to help you de-stress I highly recommend this one.
Rating: Summary: A Fresh and Funny tale... Review: Kate Svenson is a highly successful, financially comfortable businesswoman, who stands to inherit a truckload of money from her rich father. Somehow, none of that makes her the least bit happy. Her life is missing something important....Mr. Right. With the uninvited help of her best friend, Kate makes a plan to find that perfect man. He must be distinguished, intelligent, aggressive and successful. So her friend convinces her to spend some time at a golf resort in Kentucky, a place that should be crawling with men of those qualities. Once there, she forces herself to mingle and date. But calling her dates "bad" would be an understatement. She pushes Lance in the pool, gives CPR to Peter, and it doesn't improve from there. Her escape is fishing on the lake with the resort's silent partner and groundskeeper, Jake Templeton. Jake, a former tax attorney, has left the fast lane behind in favor of daily naps in his rowboat floating beneath the willow tree. It's not long before Kate throws her plan out the window, in favor of the mutual attraction developing between her and Jake. But how will these polar opposites ever find a common ground for a life together? I'm quickly becoming a fan of Jennifer Crusie. I started with "Welcome to Temptation", which was a riot, and this is now my second read by her. This was such a sexy, fun story, full of witty dialogue. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Kate and Jake. Definitely a must-read. I'm working on reading Ms. Crusie's backlist, and I just can't wait to start my next book by her!
Rating: Summary: 5 stars-no doubt!! Review: This book had me laughing from almost the very first page! I loved the way Kate and Jake "met". Kate's dates were-of course-the best parts of the book. I was laughing out loud every time she'd go on a date because she ALWAYS had some kind of bad luck. And Jake was almost ALWAYS there, too! I'm laughing out loud just thinking about some of his reactions. For example, saving someone from drowning, giving CPR, and loading another one into his truck to take him to the hospital. Near the middle-ending of the book, Kate (luckily for the guests) stops dating, and concentrates on her attraction for Jake. I've read three other books by Jennifer Crusie, and this one is by far the funniest! But then, she always keeps her readers laughing. Definently a keeper!
Rating: Summary: My New Fave Author! Review: This book was great. I loved the storyline, the banter, and the dialogue never got dull. I now own 3 of Jennifer Crusie's novels and I have not yet been disappointed. This was the first one I read and after I did not want to read anything by anyone else. I loved the characters, especially Kate and Jake. I can find people in my own life and in my small home town who fit these personalities. This is a wonderful novel for someone who likes romance but does not like the cheesey overly mushy stuff. If you like a pick-me-up kind of story with a contemporary edge and love the idea of true love and learning not to settle you will love this book. I read this when I was feeling down about my love life and it made me feel more optimistic. There is also a lot about career and finding and doing what you really want to do.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best! Review: This is really one of those rare books that overwhelm Amazon's rating system - Amazon only allows you up to five stars, but this book is really worth much more, if there was such a thing as ten stars, this book would be it, IMHO.
One of the fun things of finding a brilliant author with a backlist is that you get to read some really good gems, and this sure is one of them. Nothing different or unusual about the plot - uptight, female executive goes husband-hunting and ends up with the exact opposite of what she had planned; but the way this book is done, wow! The characters, the way they interact, the dialogue, even Jennifer Crusie's signature craziness, is all there, this book is simply a masterpiece, if you are looking for a solid few hours of enjoyment, "Manhunting" is sure to deliver!
The characters - it's funny, but I read a *serious* work, and I recognize the characters - vaguely. I read a Jennifer Crusie book, and these people - I know them, they're me, my friends, people that I could relate to. I think it's because they're unpredictable, and don't fit into a mold - that makes them more real, because people seldom do predictable things in real life, and sometimes life is even a little crazy. So I think that Jennifer Crusie *does* real life better than some of the more serious authors that I have read. I suppose it helps that Ms. Crusie really is a brilliant author - it's women like her who spoil me for any other kind of novel.
I had just finished reading "A Summer to Remember" by Mary Balogh, and, transported in another time and another place, these two books have a similar plot (which is not hard to do, considering that this must be "the" most used romance plot ever). And I thought this book was done better. I especially loved that Ms. Prim and Proper managed to liberate herself all by herself, and wasn't waiting for "Mr. Right" to do it for her. I generally like it more when women are able to do things on their own, instead of waiting for *him* to fix them, but rather, they fix themselves. What brought this observation to mind was the "going swimming in the lake" thing, Kate did it on her own, while Lauren had to be forced into it. I usually hate being forced into *anything*, even by Mr. Right, so I liked this particular part of the story a lot better here.
But that just my observation!
Loved "Manhunting". Read it, you'll love it too.
